Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trade flows across the three North American countries have increased substantially since the implementation of the North American Trade Agreement (NAFTA), but there is no movement toward developing a true North American Transportation Corridor Network. This report examines two types of North American transportation corridor networks. The first is a transportation infrastructure network that spans across the three North American countries, including highways, railroads, and port of entries which are all part of a large multimodal transportation network. The second type of networks analyzed, is a research network that is a collection and collaboration of organizations, individuals, and research that have the goal of improving transportation in North America. Through this research project, a group of transportation experts from the United States, Mexico and Canada was assembled through a webinar to discuss issues related to a North American transportation corridor plan. The formation of a North American transpotation center is recommended to research and educate government officials on the current and projected state of transportation in North America.

These are the places Alan Berger has coined "drosscapes," and this is his guide to the previously ignored field of waste landscapes.
Book Synopsis North American Freight Transportation by : Mary R. Brooks
Download or read book North American Freight Transportation written by Mary R. Brooks and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heightened awareness of North America's vulnerability to terrorism in the aftermath of 9/11 has precipitated a crisis for transport suppliers and cargo owners, one that jeopardizes economic prosperity. Mary Brooks examines one industry sector of the North American economic relationship - transportation services - from the perspectives of transport supplier, cargo owner and policymaker. Ensuring security in international transportation without compromising operational effectiveness is a delicate balancing act. There is concern that economic benefits from NAFTA and the Canada-US Trade Agreement may have been diminished by the current security focus of American officials. The author addresses these concerns, beginning with a history of NAFTA and subsequent continental economic integration. Succeeding chapters provide an economic and regulatory assessment of the North American transport network, and examine key issues for both cargo interests and surface transport suppliers. The issues of perimeter security and growing regionalization are also explored. The author closes with a discussion of North America's transportation future under the Security and Prosperity Partnership. The unique insights of North American Freight Transportation will be of interest to policymakers, those in the transport sector, as well as researchers and practitioners in political science and trade economics.
