Book Synopsis Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Ophthalmoscopy by : Martin Zinkernagel
Download or read book Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Ophthalmoscopy written by Martin Zinkernagel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-29 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the emerging non-invasive imaging technique of Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Ophthalmoscopy (FLIO). FLIO reveals unique information on retinal diseases, ranging from age-related macular degeneration and vascular diseases to hereditary retinal dystrophies. Fluorescence lifetimes enable the evaluation of disease progression before irreversible structural changes occur. The image acquisition is suitable for diagnostic purposes and follow-up examinations to investigate the natural course of disease, and to monitor the effects of possible therapies. This book fills the gap between available literature and gives state-of-the-art guidance on the principles of the FLIO technique, image acquisition, and data analysis. Written by a team of expert leaders within this field, this book will be relevant for scientists and clinicians with an interest in ophthalmoscopy.

Book Synopsis Pageant in the Wilderness by : Herbert E. Bolton
Download or read book Pageant in the Wilderness written by Herbert E. Bolton and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-12 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Father Escalante, who was born in Treceno, Cantabria, Spain around 1750, became a Franciscan in the Convento Grande in Mexico City at the age of 17. In 1774, he came to present-day New Mexico in the Mexican province. He was first stationed at Laguna pueblo and then in January 1775 assigned as a minister to the Zuni. In June 1776, he was summoned by Fray Francisco Atanasio Dominguez, who had arrived in Santa Fe on March 22, 1776, for the expedition to California and remained in New Mexico for two years following the expedition. Father Escalante died at the age of 30 in April 1780 in Parral, Mexico, during his return journey to Mexico City for medical treatment. Author Herbert Eugene Bolton, who was well-known for his books on the Southwest and Spanish Americas, here recounts in detail the story of Father Silvestre Velez de Escalante on his expedition to the Interior Basin in 1776. Bolton also includes translations of Father Escalante’s expedition itinerary and personal journal, in which Escalante described the expeditions he went on. He also includes a translation Bernardo Miera y Pacheco’s report to the King of Spain dated October 26, 1777, as well as two maps. “This dynamic story of Father Escalante’s trek into the Great Basin, by Dr. Herbert E. Bolton, represents the results of a long lifetime of interest, writing, and exploration in Spanish activities in the great Southwest.”—Preface

Book Synopsis Women in Ophthalmology by : Christina Y. Weng
Download or read book Women in Ophthalmology written by Christina Y. Weng and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are nearly 24,000 ophthalmologists in the United States, with 500 physicians newly entering the ophthalmology field each year and approximately half of those being women. Although women now represent approximately half of all ophthalmologists, gender disparities remain when it comes to certain subspecialties (e.g., surgical retina), leadership roles (e.g., department chairs), industry involvement (e.g., consultancy and advisory board positions), and even academic publications. There has been a recently heightened interest in female representation in this field which has manifested in several ways (e.g., conferences geared towards women in ophthalmology, non-peer-reviewed publications about women in ophthalmology, and mentorship programs specifically for women). This book is the first of its kind in procuring and disseminating information—pertaining to both career and life—in an organized, concrete, and enduring way. Women in Ophthalmology is a comprehensive collection of chapters primarily written by women in the field of ophthalmology. The book aims to guide others through milestones and challenges women may face during their careers, and shares sound insights into how to deal with unique issues both inside and outside the workplace. Topics that are widely applicable to all who work in ophthalmology are included, such as finding mentors, collaborating within industry, handling work-life balance, and seeking out leadership opportunities. Each chapter combines personal anecdotes with knowledge from leaders in the field which both men and women will find highly valuable.
Download or read book Friendly Fire written by Linda Sillitoe and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The letters A.C.L.U. sound like the "very hiss of the anti-Christ" in Utah, writes Linda Sillitoe. Yet Spencer L. Kimball, the Mormon church president's son who founded the local chapter, attracted to the organization men and women of religious orientation. Utah chapter president Stephen Smoot, descendant of another Mormon leader, felt that the ACLU promoted the same values as his own church. Michele Parish -- a Methodist minister's wife -- described her ACLU-Utah directorship as "an answer to a prayer." The current chapter leader, a grandmother, also defies public perceptions as she champions such issues as gay rights. A public force in Utah for half a century, the ACLU has battled, among other injustices, a leading politician's desire to have Salt Lake City's African Americans relocated to a ghettoized neighborhood. Such discrimination survives in more subtle ways today in the public strip-search of a long-haired teenager and the detainment of a building subcontractor for carrying "too much cash." Sillitoe's accessible history treats internal upheavals in tandem with ongoing skirmishes with outside forces. In this tale of political clout and paranoia, law enforcement muscle, and varying moralities, Sillitoe gives an inside view of the push and shove of competing agendas.
