Fiercer competition has underlined the need for the Nordics to enhance competitiveness - and to support and nurse growth in industry and businesses. This report presents the key findings and policy recommendations of the project "Nordic Growth Sectors." Download or read book Mapping of Nordic Creative and Cultural Industries written by Masalin, Heikki and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The creative and cultural industries (CCIs) have recently been debated widely, and access to finance has been at the forefront. This KreaNord report, created in 2012, maps the Nordic CCIs’ financial environment, and shows that the environment is facilitating the same access to corporate finance for CCIs as for other sectors. However, the supply of project finance requested by CCIs, is rare/non-existing, and mostly provided as debt. This report concludes the findings as market failure in supply of debt instruments for CCIs, and recommends a development process be initiated. Republished in 2015 following the end of KreaNord, the Nordic Council of Ministers’ initiative on cultural and creative industries (2008–2015).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nordic future of workHow will work and working life in the Nordic countries change in the future? This is the question to be addressed in the project The Future of Work: Opportunities and Challenges for the Nordic Models. This initial report describes the main drivers and trends expected to shape the future of work. It also reviews the main distinctions of the Nordic model and recent developments in Nordic working lives, pointing towards the kind of challenges the future of work may pose to the Nordic models. Too often, debates about the future narrowly focus on changes in technology. This report draws attention to the broader drivers and political-institutional frameworks influencing working life developments, aiming to spur debate about how the interaction of changes in demography, climate, globalization and digital technologies may influence Nordic working lives in the coming decades.

Book Synopsis The Nordic States and European Unity by : Christine Ingebritsen
Download or read book The Nordic States and European Unity written by Christine Ingebritsen and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of European unity, which the Nordic states have historically resisted, has recently become the foremost concern of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, and Finland. Christine Ingebritsen provides a timely analysis of Nordic economic and security policies in the wake of the vast transformation of regional politics between 1985 and 1995. The Nordic States and European Unity addresses two central questions: Why did all five Nordic states trade autonomy for integration after 1985? And why do some follow the British pattern, resisting supranationalism, while others prefer the German strategy of embedding their policies in a common European project?Through extensive interviews with representatives of trade unions, government ministries, parliamentary committees, social movements, and military and industrial organizations, Ingebritsen charts adjustments to the idea of a regional system of governance. She highlights crucial differences among these nations as they seek to protect their borders against new security threats. In particular, Ingebritsen shows how the political influence of leading sectors affects each state's capacity to pursue an integrationist policy. Economic sectors are not uniformly affected by European policy coordination, and the experience of the Nordic states demonstrates this difference. Her work shifts the focus of political economics away from enduring, domestic institutions toward an understanding of institutions as sectoral and transnational.
Book Synopsis Knowledge-Based Growth in Natural Resource Intensive Economies by : Kristin Ranestad
Download or read book Knowledge-Based Growth in Natural Resource Intensive Economies written by Kristin Ranestad and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-07 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book rejects the idea that natural resource industries are doomed to slow growth. Rather, it examines the case of Norway to demonstrate that such industries can prove highly innovative and dynamic. Here, the case is compellingly made that a key empirical problem with the popular ‘resource curse’ argument is that some of the richest countries in the world – namely Norway, Sweden, Canada and Australia – have all developed fast-growing economies based on natural resources. Analysis of innovation and knowledge development in natural resource industries reveal important new insights about the role of learning and innovation. These insights are key to understanding variances in growth levels between natural resource-based economies. Ranestad illustrates how Norway’s high economic performance is built on knowledge-based natural resource industries. While Norwegian industries may have originated because of foreign technology and expertise, they thrived due to further developments carried out by organisations within Norway. Ranestad looks at how these developments were possible due to the country’s high level of human capital, capacity for knowledge absorption and ability to adapt to new global technological and economic circumstances.

Book Synopsis Privatization of Early Childhood Education and Care in Nordic Countries by : Håkon Solbu Trætteberg
Download or read book Privatization of Early Childhood Education and Care in Nordic Countries written by Håkon Solbu Trætteberg and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-08 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the increasing role of private providers in early childhood education and care (ECEC) as they become a core part of the Nordic welfare model—one that once rejected for-profit involvement in public welfare. Within this context, ECEC has become the key battleground over private providers’ role in the welfare system. Chapters compare five Nordic countries: Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, to discuss possible benefits from having different types of providers—public, nonprofit, and for-profit—in the welfare mix. To conclude, the authors also provide a comparative perspective on governance of the ECEC sector and on the development and functions of the Nordic welfare model.

Book Synopsis Nordic Tourism Policy Analysis by : Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir
Download or read book Nordic Tourism Policy Analysis written by Ragnheiður Elín Árnadóttir and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2019-03-27 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tourism is an important, growing industry in all the Nordic countries, but until recently, it has not had a particularly strong focus within the Nordic cooperation framework. This is changing rapidly, and the Nordic Council of Ministers has given a strong signal that increased emphasis should be placed on tourism issues within the Nordic framework. This project is a result of that important political prioritisation. The key objective of this project is to create a framework on which a Nordic Tourism Strategy can be established. Thus, the desired outcome of the project is to define future strategies and projects that will underscore common opportunities and challenges within Nordic tourism. The objective of a Nordic Tourism Policy Analysis is to provide valuable input to each country's work within tourism as well as laying a foundation for a common Nordic Tourism Policy.
