Download or read book Punching of Structural Concrete Slabs written by fib Fédération internationale du béton and published by fib Fédération internationale du béton. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Punching is considered to be one of the most difficult problems in structural concrete design and mechanical models or theoretical analyses were developed rather late in the history of concrete research attempts. This fib Bulletin reviews the development of design models and theoretical analyses since the CEB Bulletin 168 Punching Shear in Reinforced Concrete - State-of-the-Art Report published in 1985. The role of the concrete tensile strength was specially addressed. In this respect the present bulletin is also following-up the CEB Bulletin 237 Concrete Tension and Size Effects - Utilisation of concrete tension in structural concrete design and relevance of size effect - Contributions from CEB Task Group 2.7 published in 1997. Apart from new theoretical developments a comprehensive databank for comparisons with experimental evidence is included. About 400 punching tests were critically reviewed and evaluated in a consistent manner. This is thought to be the first step towards a generally agreed selection of reliable tests. The evident value of such a data bank is illustrated by comparisons carried out between the data and some of the analytical proposals as well as empirical code formulas. List of contents : (1) Introduction, (2) Code equations, (3) Mechanical models for punching, (4) New developments for mechanical models, (5) Numerical investigations, (7) Comparison of mechanical models and test results of slabs without shear reinforcement, (8) Comparison of code rules and tests of flat slabs without shear reinforcement, (9) Comparison of codes, models and tests of flat slabs with shear reinforcement, (10) Experimental investigations, (11) Summary and conclusions, References, Appendices : (I) Databank on slabs without shear reinforcement, (II) Databank on slabs with shear reinforcement, (III) Comparison of test data with code rules, (IV) Comparison of test data with selected models, (V) Notations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fourth volume of Concrete in the Service of Mankind focuses on radical concrete technology. Concrete is ubiquitous and unique, and is found in every developed and developing country. Indeed, there are no alternatives to concrete as a volume construction material for infrastructure. This raises important questions of how concrete should be designed and constructed for cost effective use in the the short and long term, and to encourage further radical development. Equally, it must be environmentally friendly during manufacture, in an aesthetic presentation in structures and in the containment of harmful materials. This book should be of interest to concrete technologists; contractors; civil engineers; consultants; government agencies; research organizations.

This book was released on 2017 with total page 1057 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a wide-ranging review of the latest developments in concrete technology that have been largely missing from the global conference circuit. It the first major international event under the auspices of the Institute of Concrete Technology (ICT) and is appropriately located in the Middle East at the heart of a construction boom. Themes covered include admixture technology, durability, mix design, special cements and supplementary materials, reinforced concrete and sustainability. The 39 papers provide interesting theory and applicable practice blended with research findings – from the application of 3D printing to performance-based specifications and the role of concrete in the development of Oman – to produce a volume of value to many engineers and technologists. Founded in 1972, The Institute of Concrete Technology (ICT)’s mission is to preserve and promote concrete technology as a recognised engineering discipline and consolidate the professional status of practising concrete technologists worldwide. It is the concrete sector’s professional development body, operating internationally, with some 500 members in more than 30 countries. It is an awarding body for qualifications in concrete technology and a facilitator of continuing professional development (CPD) and networking opportunities. Our partner in this conference, The Military Technical College in Muscat, Oman, was established with the intent of becoming a Center of Excellence in engineering education. Located in one purpose-built, state-of-the-art, well-resourced center, the intent is that MTC will be amongst the world's best in the field of military and applied non-military technological education and training providers in the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Post-war Europe and Asia have seen the rapid development of German and Japan from a war torn countries into two of the most powerful nations in the world. Their achievement is nothing short of miraculous. However, as the two most populated countries; China and India, transform themselves into Asia powerhouses, cement and concrete will be their brick and mortar to sustain their double digit growth in economy. This book summarizes the history and development of cement and concrete. From prehistoric period to today, from ancient Egypt and Rome period to China, over tens of thousands of years of human civilization in the form of the gelled material (cement, concrete). The book is divided into seven chapters, including more than 300 references. Chapter 1 introduces the prehistoric gelled material development; Chapter 2 is about the birth of Portland cement and the technological application; Chapter 3 introduces the important role that concrete played in the human society developing process; Chapter 4 subdivides the performance and the wide application of different function of cement and concrete; Chapter 5 focuses on northern Europe, especially the history of Norwegian cement; Chapter 6 elaborates the development of concrete in China and its impact in the world's ancient civilizations history; Chapter 7 describes the development prospect of cement and concrete.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite tremendous advances made in fracture mechanics of concrete in recent years, very little information has been available on the nature of fracture processes and on reliable test methods for determining parameters for the different models. Moreover, most texts on this topic discuss numerical modeling but fail to consider experimentation. This book fills these gaps and synthesizes progress in the field in a simple, straightforward manner geared to practical applications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete durability in climates where freezing and thawing occurs is a continuing problem. It is particularly acute for highway and bridge structures, where de-icing salts are used to combat the effects of frost, snow and ice. These salts can cause damage to concrete and accelerate corrosion of reinforcements. This book presents the latest international research on this area, with contributions from North America and Europe which were presented at an international RILEM workshop.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a State of the Art Report (STAR) produced by RILEM Technical Committee 254-CMS ‘Thermal Cracking of Mas-sive Concrete Structures’. Several recent developments related to the old problem of understanding/predicting stresses originated from the evolution of the hydration of concrete are at the origin of the creation this technical committee. Having identified a lack in the organization of up-to-date scientific and technological knowledge about cracking induced by hydration heat effects, this STAR aims to provide both practitioners and scientists with a deep integrated overview of consolidated knowledge, together with recent developments on this subject.

Download or read book Nordic Societal Security written by Sebastian Larsson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-07-08 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book compares and contrasts publicly espoused security concepts in the Nordic region, and explores the notion of societal security. Outside observers often assume that Nordic countries take similar approaches to the security and safety of their citizens. This book challenges that assumption and traces the evolution of ‘societal security’, and its broadly equivalent concepts, in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. The notion of societal security is deconstructed and analysed in terms of its different meanings and implications for each country, through both country- and issue-focused studies. Each chapter traces the evolution of key security concepts and related practices, allowing for a comparison of similarities and differences between these four countries. Using discourses and practices as evidence, this is the first book to explore how different Nordic nations have conceptualised domestic security over time. The findings will be valuable to scholars from across the geographical and theoretical spectrum, while highlighting how Nordic security discourses and practices may deviate from traditional assumptions about Nordic values. This book will be of much interest to students of security studies, Nordic politics and International Relations.
