Book Synopsis Nonstationary Hydrodynamic Flow and Lie's Theorem on Finite Continuous Groups by : E. J. Post
Download or read book Nonstationary Hydrodynamic Flow and Lie's Theorem on Finite Continuous Groups written by E. J. Post and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The one-parameter group property of a continuous and stationary hydrodynamic flow is taken to be an intrinsic property of the flow. The specification of having the group property prevail for references with respect to which the same flow may not be stationary demands a group representation applicable to stationary as well as to non-stationary flow. A space-time realization of the group meets that requirement. The group parameter of this realization is a domain-scalar of space-time, which is not in general identifiable with proper time, unless the flow is geodetic. The implications of a kinematics based on this group parameter instead of on proper time, is investigated in some detail, in particular, for the case where the two parameters differ; that is, non-geodetic flow.

Book Synopsis Elementary Lie Group Analysis and Ordinary Differential Equations by : Nailʹ Khaĭrullovich Ibragimov
Download or read book Elementary Lie Group Analysis and Ordinary Differential Equations written by Nailʹ Khaĭrullovich Ibragimov and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1999-05-04 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lie group analysis, based on symmetry and invariance principles, is the only systematic method for solving nonlinear differential equations analytically. One of Lie's striking achievements was the discovery that the majority of classical devices for integration of special types of ordinary differential equations could be explained and deduced by his theory. Moreover, this theory provides a universal tool for tackling considerable numbers of differential equations when other means of integration fail. * This is the first modern text on ordinary differential equations where the basic integration methods are derived from Lie group theory * Includes a concise and self contained introduction to differential equations * Easy to follow and comprehensive introduction to Lie group analysis * The methods described in this book have many applications The author provides students and their teachers with a flexible text for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, spanning a variety of topics from the basic theory through to its many applications. The philosophy of Lie groups has become an essential part of the mathematical culture for anyone investigating mathematical models of physical, engineering and natural problems.

Book Synopsis Geometric Control Theory by : Velimir Jurdjevic
Download or read book Geometric Control Theory written by Velimir Jurdjevic and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometric control theory is concerned with the evolution of systems subject to physical laws but having some degree of freedom through which motion is to be controlled. This book describes the mathematical theory inspired by the irreversible nature of time evolving events. The first part of the book deals with the issue of being able to steer the system from any point of departure to any desired destination. The second part deals with optimal control, the question of finding the best possible course. An overlap with mathematical physics is demonstrated by the Maximum principle, a fundamental principle of optimality arising from geometric control, which is applied to time-evolving systems governed by physics as well as to man-made systems governed by controls. Applications are drawn from geometry, mechanics, and control of dynamical systems. The geometric language in which the results are expressed allows clear visual interpretations and makes the book accessible to physicists and engineers as well as to mathematicians.
