This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 729 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the occasion of the International Conference on Nonlinear Hyperbolic Problems held in St. Etienne, France, 1986 it was decided to start a two years cycle of conferences on this very rapidly expanding branch of mathematics and it·s applications in Continuum Mechanics and Aerodynamics. The second conference toolc place in Aachen, FRG, March 14-18, 1988. The number of more than 200 participants from more than 20 countries all over the world and about 100 invited and contributed papers, well balanced between theory, numerical analysis and applications, do not leave any doubt that it was the right decision to start this cycle of conferences, of which the third will be organized in Sweden in 1990. ThiS volume contains sixty eight original papers presented at the conference, twenty two cif them dealing with the mathematical theory, e.g. existence, uniqueness, stability, behaviour of solutions, physical modelling by evolution equations. Twenty two articles in numerical analysis are concerned with stability and convergence to the physically relevant solutions such as schemes especially deviced for treating shoclcs, contact discontinuities and artificial boundaries. Twenty four papers contain multidimensional computational applications to nonlinear waves in solids, flow through porous media and compressible fluid flow including shoclcs, real gas effects, multiphase phenomena, chemical reactions etc. The editors and organizers of the Second International Conference on Hyperbolic Problems would lilce to thanlc the Scientific Committee for the generous support of recommending invited lectures and selecting the contributed papers of the conference.

Book Synopsis Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws by : Philippe G. LeFloch
Download or read book Hyperbolic Systems of Conservation Laws written by Philippe G. LeFloch and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the well-posedness theory for nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, recently completed by the author together with his collaborators. It covers the existence, uniqueness, and continuous dependence of classical entropy solutions. It also introduces the reader to the developing theory of nonclassical (undercompressive) entropy solutions. The systems of partial differential equations under consideration arise in many areas of continuum physics.

Book Synopsis Partial Differential Equations by : Fritz John
Download or read book Partial Differential Equations written by Fritz John and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1991-11-20 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a very well-accepted introduction to the subject. In it, the author identifies the significant aspects of the theory and explores them with a limited amount of machinery from mathematical analysis. Now, in this fourth edition, the book has again been updated with an additional chapter on Lewy’s example of a linear equation without solutions.
Book Synopsis A Basic Course in Partial Differential Equations by : Qing Han
Download or read book A Basic Course in Partial Differential Equations written by Qing Han and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a textbook for an introductory graduate course on partial differential equations. Han focuses on linear equations of first and second order. An important feature of his treatment is that the majority of the techniques are applicable more generally. In particular, Han emphasizes a priori estimates throughout the text, even for those equations that can be solved explicitly. Such estimates are indispensable tools for proving the existence and uniqueness of solutions to PDEs, being especially important for nonlinear equations. The estimates are also crucial to establishing properties of the solutions, such as the continuous dependence on parameters. Han's book is suitable for students interested in the mathematical theory of partial differential equations, either as an overview of the subject or as an introduction leading to further study.
Book Synopsis Unpublished Manuscripts by : Lars Hörmander
Download or read book Unpublished Manuscripts written by Lars Hörmander and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-19 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents, for the first time, the unpublished manuscripts of Lars Hörmander, written between 1951 and 2007. Hörmander himself organised the manuscripts and also wrote the notes explaining their origins, presenting the material in the form he fully intended it to be published in. As his daughter, Sofia Broström, mentions in the Foreword, towards the end of his life, Hörmander "carefully went through his unpublished manuscripts, checking and revising each of them with his very critical eye, deciding what should be kept for posterity and what should be thrown out". He also compiled the complete bibliography of all his published mathematical works that is included at the end of the present book. Of both historical and mathematical value, the contents of this book will undoubtedly inspire mathematicians of different horizons.
Book Synopsis Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations—III, SYNSPADE 1975 by : Bert Hubbard
Download or read book Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations—III, SYNSPADE 1975 written by Bert Hubbard and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations—III: Synspade 1975 provides information pertinent to those difficult problems in partial differential equations exhibiting some type of singular behavior. This book covers a variety of topics, including the mathematical models and their relation to experiment as well as the behavior of solutions of the partial differential equations involved. Organized into 16 chapters, this book begins with an overview of elastodynamic results for stress intensity factors of a bifurcating crack. This text then discusses the effects of nonlinearities, such as bifurcation, which occur in problems of nonlinear mechanics. Other chapters consider the equations of changing type and those with rapidly oscillating coefficients. This book discusses as well the effective computational methods for numerical solutions. The final chapter deals with the principal results on G-convergence, such as the convergence of the Green's operators for Dirichlet's and other boundary problems. This book is a valuable resource for engineers and mathematicians.

Book excerpt: Authored by leading scholars, this comprehensive text presents a view of the multi-dimensional hyperbolic partial differential equations, with a particular emphasis on problems in which modern tools of analysis have proved useful. It is useful to graduates and researchers in both hyperbolic PDEs and compressible fluid dynamics.
Book Synopsis Encyclopaedia of Mathematics by : Michiel Hazewinkel
Download or read book Encyclopaedia of Mathematics written by Michiel Hazewinkel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 743 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF MATHEMATICS aims to be a reference work for all parts of mathe matics. It is a translation with updates and editorial comments of the Soviet Mathematical Encyclopaedia published by 'Soviet Encyclopaedia Publishing House' in five volumes in 1977-1985. The annotated translation consists of ten volumes including a special index volume. There are three kinds of articles in this ENCYCLOPAEDIA. First of all there are survey-type articles dealing with the various main directions in mathematics (where a rather fine subdivi sion has been used). The main requirement for these articles has been that they should give a reasonably complete up-to-date account of the current state of affairs in these areas and that they should be maximally accessible. On the whole, these articles should be understandable to mathematics students in their first specialization years, to graduates from other mathematical areas and, depending on the specific subject, to specialists in other domains of science, en gineers and teachers of mathematics. These articles treat their material at a fairly general level and aim to give an idea of the kind of problems, techniques and concepts involved in the area in question. They also contain background and motivation rather than precise statements of precise theorems with detailed definitions and technical details on how to carry out proofs and constructions. The second kind of article, of medium length, contains more detailed concrete problems, results and techniques.
