Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cryptology is the practice of hiding digital information by means of various obfuscatory and steganographic techniques. The application of said techniques facilitates message confidentiality and sender/receiver identity authentication, and helps to ensure the integrity and security of computer passwords, ATM card information, digital signatures, DVD and HDDVD content, and electronic commerce. Cryptography is also central to digital rights management (DRM), a group of techniques for technologically controlling the use of copyrighted material that is being widely implemented and deployed at the behest of corporations that own and create revenue from the hundreds of thousands of mini-transactions that take place daily on programs like iTunes. This new edition of our best-selling book on cryptography and information hiding delineates a number of different methods to hide information in all types of digital media files. These methods include encryption, compression, data embedding and watermarking, data mimicry, and scrambling. During the last 5 years, the continued advancement and exponential increase of computer processing power have enhanced the efficacy and scope of electronic espionage and content appropriation. Therefore, this edition has amended and expanded outdated sections in accordance with new dangers, and includes 5 completely new chapters that introduce newer more sophisticated and refined cryptographic algorithms and techniques (such as fingerprinting, synchronization, and quantization) capable of withstanding the evolved forms of attack. Each chapter is divided into sections, first providing an introduction and high-level summary for those who wish to understand the concepts without wading through technical explanations, and then presenting concrete examples and greater detail for those who want to write their own programs. This combination of practicality and theory allows programmers and system designers to not only implement tried and true encryption procedures, but also consider probable future developments in their designs, thus fulfilling the need for preemptive caution that is becoming ever more explicit as the transference of digital media escalates. Includes 5 completely new chapters that delineate the most current and sophisticated cryptographic algorithms, allowing readers to protect their information against even the most evolved electronic attacks Conceptual tutelage in conjunction with detailed mathematical directives allows the reader to not only understand encryption procedures, but also to write programs which anticipate future security developments in their design

Book excerpt: Disappearing Cryptography, Second Edition describes how to take words, sounds, or images and hide them in digital data so they look like other words, sounds, or images. When used properly, this powerful technique makes it almost impossible to trace the author and the recipient of a message. Conversations can be submerged in the flow of information through the Internet so that no one can know if a conversation exists at all. This full revision of the best-selling first edition describes a number of different techniques to hide information. These include encryption, making data incomprehensible; steganography, embedding information into video, audio, or graphics files; watermarking, hiding data in the noise of image or sound files; mimicry, "dressing up" data and making it appear to be other data, and more. The second edition also includes an expanded discussion on hiding information with spread-spectrum algorithms, shuffling tricks, and synthetic worlds. Each chapter is divided into sections, first providing an introduction and high-level summary for those who want to understand the concepts without wading through technical explanations, and then presenting greater detail for those who want to write their own programs. To encourage exploration, the author's Web site www.wayner.org/books/discrypt2/ contains implementations for hiding information in lists, sentences, and images. Each chapter is divided into sections, providing first an introduction and high-level summary for those who want to understand the concepts without wading through technical details, and then an introductory set of details, for those who want to write their own programs. Fully revised and expanded. Covers key concepts for non-technical readers. Goes into technical details for those wanting to create their own programs and implement algorithms.

The purpose of steganography is to hide the presence of a message from the intruder by using state-of-the-art methods, algorithms, architectures, models, and methodologies in the domains of cloud, internet of things (IoT), and the Android platform. Though security controls in cloud computing, IoT, and Android platforms are not much different than security controls in an IT environment, they might still present different types of risks to an organization than the classic IT solutions. Therefore, a detailed discussion is needed in case there is a breach in security. It is important to review the security aspects of cloud, IoT, and Android platforms related to steganography to determine how this new technology is being utilized and improved continuously to protect information digitally. The benefits and challenges, along with the current and potential developments for the future, are important keystones in this critical area of security research. Multidisciplinary Approach to Modern Digital Steganography reviews the security aspects of cloud, IoT, and Android platforms related to steganography and addresses emerging security concerns, new algorithms, and case studies in the field. Furthermore, the book presents a new approach to secure data storage on cloud infrastructure and IoT along with including discussions on optimization models and security controls that could be implemented. Other important topics include data transmission, deep learning techniques, machine learning, and both image and text stenography. This book is essential for forensic engineers, forensic analysts, cybersecurity analysts, cyber forensic examiners, security engineers, cybersecurity network analysts, cyber network defense analysts, and digital forensic examiners along with practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students interested in the latest techniques and state-of-the-art methods in digital steganography.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steganography is the art and science of hiding information in inconspicuous cover data so that even the existence of a secret message is kept confidential, and steganalysis is the task of detecting secret messages in covers. This research monograph focuses on the role of cover signals, the distinguishing feature that requires us to treat steganography and steganalysis differently from other secrecy techniques. The main theoretical contribution of the book is a proposal to structure approaches to provably secure steganography according to their implied assumptions on the limits of the adversary and on the nature of covers. A further contribution is the emphasis on dealing with heterogeneity in cover distributions, crucial for security analyses. The author's work complements earlier approaches based on information, complexity, probability and signal processing theory, and he presents numerous practical implications. The scientific advances are supported by a survey of the classical steganography literature; a new proposal for a unified terminology and notation that is maintained throughout the book; a critical discussion of the results achieved and their limitations; and an assessment of the possibility of transferring elements of this research's empirical perspective to other domains in information security. The book is suitable for researchers working in cryptography and information security, practitioners in the corporate and national security domains, and graduate students specializing in multimedia security and data hiding.

Book excerpt: This project implements a steganography tool named HideNQA that will hide text within the GRE's multiple-choice questions and answers. With HideNQA, confidential information can be smuggled out in an innocuous looking GRE exam. "Noise" here refers to random bits in the covertext that could be modified without discernible change in the quality of the image, audio or video file (covertexts). "Noise" could also mean the traces left behind by a particular steganographic technique. This paradigm was first introduced by Abdelrahman Desoky. Most current steganography algorithms/methods leave some signature or noise in the covertext that can be detected by current steganalysis tools. These algorithms are then vulnerable to analysis and attacks because of these clues left behind. This project will implement a component of Noiseless Steganography, i.e., Nostega called Edustega (short for Educational Steganography) - as described in Desoky0́9s dissertation.

Book excerpt: Document from the year 2021 in the subject Computer Science - IT-Security, grade: 2, , language: English, abstract: This book focuses on the implementation of Image steganography and modifying the existing technique to add more security to a normal steganography technique. The Book emphasizes various techniques used in steganography with methodology, algorithm, MAT LAB implementation and implementation in Java. There is data everywhere, in the form of images, text and audio/video files. Some data is very crucial or personal and needs to be kept confidential. For that reason, we have cryptography. Cryptography is the science of encrypting a message such that an unauthorized party cannot comprehend what that message means. Only those who possess the key can decrypt the message. There might be cases where just encrypting the information is not enough, since an encrypted message can raise suspicion. Steganography is the science of hiding a message completely inside another form of data so that the existence of the actual message is not revealed during communication. It is possible to hide the image in any of the digital formats whether it is images, videos or even audio files. Images are popular because they are really frequent on the internet and hence do not arouse suspicion. This book intends to give an overview cryptography with image steganography.
