This book was released on 2008-03-06 with total page 749 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book summarizes international progress over the last few decades in upper atmosphere airglow research. Measurement methods, theoretical concepts and empirical models of a wide spectrum of upper atmospheric emissions and their variability are considered. The book contains a detailed bibliography of studies related to the upper atmosphere airglow. Readers will also benefit from a lot of useful information on emission characteristics and its formation processes found the book.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of Infrared Emission of Clouds and Ground as Measured by Weather Satellites by : Clifford Dalton Kern
Download or read book Evaluation of Infrared Emission of Clouds and Ground as Measured by Weather Satellites written by Clifford Dalton Kern and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of prime interest are the radiation data from that portion of the infrared spectrum known as the atmospheric water-vapor window, ranging from about 8 to 12 microns. Infrared signals received by weather satellites and aircraft depend, in clear air, on surface temperature, atmospheric interference and surface emissivity. For the latter, very different data in literature are found for clouds, water, rocks, etc. In this report correct emissivity data were sought in three ways: (1) Reflectivity of polished rock samples was tested in an infrared spectrograph for 5-16 microns wavelength. Using Kirchhoff's law this method yielded emissivities for near normal incidence. (2) Using an 8-13 microns sensitive radiometer and an aggregate, called emissivity box, the emissivity of many surfaces was measured directly. (3) A summer noon time flight of Tiros over the Mediterranean and the Sahara was evaluated.

Book Synopsis Variations with Season and Latitude of Density, Temperature, and Composition in the Lower Thermosphere by : K. S. W. Champion
Download or read book Variations with Season and Latitude of Density, Temperature, and Composition in the Lower Thermosphere written by K. S. W. Champion and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of neutral density data has made it possible to extend curves of mean density as a function of latitude and season from 90 to 120 km. There is an approximate isopycnic point at 91 km. Above this point the density variations are reversed from what they are at 80 km. In other words, at 120 km the density in summer and at the tropics is lower than that in CIRA 1965 and in winter the density is higher. The density curves have been idealized near 120 km to join at one of three points. These correspond to typical summer and tropical conditions, winter conditions, and spring/autumn conditions. The summer density is 20 percent below that of the U.S. Standard, the winter density is 50 percent above the Standard and the spring/autumn density is 1 percent above the Standard. By application of appropriate theory the corresponding variations in temperature and mean molecular weight have been calculated. An unexpected result of the theory is the prediction of a seasonal variation of the mean molecular weight. Some of the data presented in the paper have been analyzed since the models were derived. These data have been found to be acceptably close to the models. (Author).
