Book excerpt: NIGERIA ON SALE is the first and most comprehensive book to turn the spotlight on the failed implementation of the controversial privatization and commercialization program in Nigeria. The book exposes the high-level of political interference, abuse of power, corporate misconduct, greed, corruption, and the role of corporate-political embeddedness on the financial malfeasance in the Nigeria business environment. Also, it chronicles the illegal deals and unethical leadership behaviors of Nigerian business managers at the Bureau of Public Enterprise, the Presidency, and the private corporations that bought the privatized government-owned enterprises. The book is a must read for anyone concerned about the widespread corruption in the Nigerian public sector and the role played by the presidency in robbing the Nigerian people; which resulted in the emergence of a new breed of vulture capitalists. These vulture capitalists are now some of the richest people in the world. The book is also an essential read for people interested in and involved in business administration, ethics, and complex organization management in Nigeria.

Banks showed continued improvement in financial stability. Executive Directors commended the authorities for countercyclical policies. Book excerpt: Nigeria is the most populated nation on the African continent and contains a vast wealth of natural resources. It is the largest petroleum producer in Africa, and a key exporter of oil to both Western Europe and the US, and yet the political economy of Nigeria remains one of gross indebtedness, inefficiency and mismanagement. Here, the author brings together these issues in a far-ranging account of the Nigerian oil industry. She explores the fraught relationship between the government and foreign oil companies, the financial constraints on domestic investment, and the tragic lessons of an economy dependent on oil. This is a fascinating look at the problems of this developing country trying to exploit its natural resources, and will be of interest to scholars of development studies and international business.

Book Synopsis The UK-Nigeria Remittance Corridor by : Raúl Hernández-Coss
Download or read book The UK-Nigeria Remittance Corridor written by Raúl Hernández-Coss and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is the first research work on remittances conducted in Nigeria and reveals the actual state of its remittance market. The report describes how United Kingdom residents of Nigerian origin transfer remittances home and how the funds are distributed to their beneficiaries in Nigeria. The review presents the remittance industry conditions existing in the UKNigeria remittance corridor at the origination and distribution stages of the transactions, and the intermediaries who facilitate the transfers. The report makes conclusions and compares these main findings with lessons from other corridors. The UK-Nigeria remittance corridor has an equal dominance of formal and informal remittance intermediaries. Although several formal financial institutions for transferring money exist in the UK, many people choose to send money informally. More collaboration between the UK and Nigeria is necessary to develop the remittance market, to encourage the use of formal channels, and to enhance the development potential. Among its benefits, the remittance country partnership (RCP) between UK and Nigeria aims to reduce the cost of remittance transfers. The Nigerian government is engaging its diaspora to help spur economic growth. This report recommends that each government focus on improving data collection at its end of the corridor and do more research to provide its policymakers and its private sector with accurate information.
