Download or read book Comparative Law in a Changing World written by Peter De Cruz and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-11-01 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a comprehensive and comparative analysis of the legal approach to key areas of law within different legal systems, this book offers a blueprint for comparative legal study by evaluating the current epistemological debate on comparative law and comparative legal research methods. Substantive law, the law of obligations, commercial and corporate law within the major legal systems of the world are all examined and compared. While France and Germany are generally used as the archetypal civil law jurisdictions and English law as the main common law comparator, this third edition also examines the Russian Federation in the post-Soviet era and socialist legal influences as well as non-Western legal traditions. Fully updated and revised to include all recent developments, this edition also includes a broad historical introduction and outlines changes in EC Law. It assesses the possibility of Europeanization of national legal systems and certain legal topics, the impact of the globalization of legal institutions and the evolving 'new world order' in the early twenty-first century. Written in a clear, user-friendly style, Comparative Law in a Changing World is an accessible source for undergraduates and postgraduates wishing to trace the influence of common law and civil law legal traditions on jurisdictions across the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In war, defeating an enemy's force is often a necessary step on the path to victory. Defeating enemy armies is a difficult task that often comes with a high price tag in terms of blood and treasure. With its inherent speed, range, and flexibility, air and space power offers a way to lower that risk by providing commanders a synergistic tool that can provide a degree of control over the surface environment and render enemy forces ineffective before they meet friendly land forces. Modern air and space power directly affects an adversary's ability to initiate, conduct, and sustain ground combat.
Book Synopsis Religious Freedom and Gay Rights by : Timothy Samuel Shah
Download or read book Religious Freedom and Gay Rights written by Timothy Samuel Shah and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States and Europe, an increasing emphasis on equality has pitted rights claims against each other, raising profound philosophical, moral, legal, and political questions about the meaning and reach of religious liberty. Nowhere has this conflict been more salient than in the debate between claims of religious freedom, on one hand, and equal rights claims made on the behalf of members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, on the other. As new rights for LGBT individuals have expanded in liberal democracies across the West, longstanding rights of religious freedom -- such as the rights of religious communities to adhere to their fundamental teachings, including protecting the rights of conscience; the rights of parents to impart their religious beliefs to their children; and the liberty to advance religiously-based moral arguments as a rationale for laws -- have suffered a corresponding decline. Timothy Samuel Shah, Thomas F. Farr, and Jack Friedman's volume, Religious Freedom and Gay Rights brings together some of the world's leading thinkers on religion, morality, politics, and law to analyze the emerging tensions between religious freedom and gay rights in three key geographic regions: the United States, the United Kingdom, and continental Europe. What implications will expanding regimes of equality rights for LGBT individuals have on religious freedom in these regions? What are the legal and moral frameworks that govern tensions between gay rights and religious freedom? How are these tensions illustrated in particular legal, political, and policy controversies? And what is the proper way to balance new claims of equality against existing claims for freedom of religious groups and individuals? Religious Freedom and Gay Rights offers several explorations of these questions.
Book Synopsis King Solomon's Seal by : Jascha Kessler
Download or read book King Solomon's Seal written by Jascha Kessler and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-16 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: KING SOLOMON’S SEAL consists of 63+ pieces, some short, some long, each a story, several containing stories within stories. There is a short introduction, TO THE READER, which informs us by whom it originated and is narrated, if neither the why nor how. There is also an AFTERWORDS, which in some ways puts Finis to these tale-tellings. The time of its narrations is about 1750-1820, the place a small “house of study” perched on a mountain in the eastern part of the Fatra Range in Carpathia, part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire during that century. The materials are diverse in nature, suggestion and purpose, although the reader may and should suppose them meant for us today, even if the language by which the tales are told is a pasticcio of assumed translation into English from some other language, one that relates perhaps to whatever may have been the Yiddish vernacular of those lost times in that faraway place. Some two or three of its fables have appeared in print. KING SOLOMON’S SEAL, playful and mock-serious at once, is meant to entertain. It is a “literary” work, consisting of pseudo-fairy tales, pseudo-folk materials, legends and the like.

Book Synopsis What Can a Mother Do to Preserve Her Children's Teeth? by : Henry C. Quinby
Download or read book What Can a Mother Do to Preserve Her Children's Teeth? written by Henry C. Quinby and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-14 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from What Can a Mother Do to Preserve Her Children's Teeth? The question which serves as a title to this httle book is one that almost every mother asks when she takes her suffering child to the dentist to get relief from the first experience of the pain which Burns describes as the - "venomed stang That shoots my tortured gums alang: And through my lugs gi es mony a twang Wi' gnawing vengeance." And there are so many erroneous ideas, with so little real knowledge of what a mother can and should do for her childrens teeth, that it has seemed to me a want would be supplied if some trustworthy information were put together in a popular form to explain a few of the causes of tooth deterioration, and the means by which the evil can be arrested. My experience as a dental practitioner teaches me that if parents do not take the trouble to look after their children's teeth intelligently and carefully, the dentist may as well cease his endeavours to preserve these organs, and go back to his old position of tooth-drawer, which is still the only idea conveyed to many minds by the word dentist.
