Book excerpt: Sampling inspection is a product-control methodology and consists of procedures for making decisions on the disposition of lots of finished products based on the inspection of individual units in one or more random samples drawn from the lots or from the process. Lot-by-lot sampling by attributes and sampling plans for a continuous flow of products are the important classifications of inspection procedures. While lot-by-lot sampling is adopted when the inspection lots are formed from a production process, the concept of continuous sampling plans is used where the product flow is continuous and the formation of inspection lots is impractical or difficult. However, when the continuous production processes involve formation of lots, the concept of combined continuous lot-by-lot sampling plans, which incorporates the best features of the continuous and lot-by-lot inspection plans, can be considered as desirable for application. This paper studies the properties of such combined plans when a single sampling plan is used as a reference plan and presents a procedure for determining the parameters of the plan providing protection to the producer and the consumer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New to the second edition: A section on Acceptance-on-Zero plans, additional screenshots from the newly-designed SQCOnline.com with several new calculators, and improved book design for enhanced readability. Practical Acceptance Sampling is a hands-on introduction to the inspection of products and services for quality assurance using statistically-based sampling plans. In today’s era of global supply chains, the path from raw materials to final product often takes place over multiple companies and across multiple continents. Acceptance sampling is key in the 21st century environment. Acceptance sampling plans provide criteria and decision rules for determining whether to accept or reject a batch based on a sample. They are therefore widely used by manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and subcontractors, and service providers in a wide range of industries. The book introduces readers to the most popular sampling plans, including Military Standards and civilian ISO and ANSI/ASQC/BS standards. It covers the design, choice and performance evaluation of different types of plans, including single- and double-stage plans, rectifying and non-rectifying plans, plans for pass/fail and continuous measurements, continuous sampling plans, and more. Practical Acceptance Sampling is suitable for courses on quality control and for quality practitioners with basic knowledge of statistics. It offers clear explanations, examples, end-of-chapter problems, and illustrations of state-of-the-art online resources. Methods are illustrated using Microsoft Excel, online calculators, and SQCOnline.com. However, any statistical software can be used with the book. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important role of diagnostic medicine research is to estimate and compare the accuracies of diagnostic tests. This book provides a comprehensive account of statistical methods for design and analysis of diagnostic studies, including sample size calculations, estimation of the accuracy of a diagnostic test, comparison of accuracies of competing diagnostic tests, and regression analysis of diagnostic accuracy data. Discussing recently developed methods for correction of verification bias and imperfect reference bias, methods for analysis of clustered diagnostic accuracy data, and meta-analysis methods, Statistical Methods in Diagnostic Medicine explains: * Common measures of diagnostic accuracy and designs for diagnostic accuracy studies * Methods of estimation and hypothesis testing of the accuracy of diagnostic tests * Meta-analysis * Advanced analytic techniques-including methods for comparing correlated ROC curves in multi-reader studies, correcting verification bias, and correcting when an imperfect gold standard is used Thoroughly detailed with numerous applications and end-of-chapter problems as well as a related FTP site providing FORTRAN program listings, data sets, and instructional hints, Statistical Methods in Diagnostic Medicine is a valuable addition to the literature of the field, serving as a much-needed guide for both clinicians and advanced students.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: STATISTICAL QUALITY CONTROL Provides a basic understanding of statistical quality control (SQC) and demonstrates how to apply the techniques of SQC to improve the quality of products in various sectors This book introduces Statistical Quality Control and the elements of Six Sigma Methodology, illustrating the widespread applications that both have for a multitude of areas, including manufacturing, finance, transportation, and more. It places emphasis on both the theory and application of various SQC techniques and offers a large number of examples using data encountered in real life situations to support each theoretical concept. Statistical Quality Control: Using MINITAB, R, JMP and Python begins with a brief discussion of the different types of data encountered in various fields of statistical applications and introduces graphical and numerical tools needed to conduct preliminary analysis of the data. It then discusses the basic concept of statistical quality control (SQC) and Six Sigma Methodology and examines the different types of sampling methods encountered when sampling schemes are used to study certain populations. The book also covers Phase 1 Control Charts for variables and attributes; Phase II Control Charts to detect small shifts; the various types of Process Capability Indices (CPI); certain aspects of Measurement System Analysis (MSA); various aspects of PRE-control; and more. This helpful guide also Focuses on the learning and understanding of statistical quality control for second and third year undergraduates and practitioners in the field Discusses aspects of Six Sigma Methodology Teaches readers to use MINITAB, R, JMP and Python to create and analyze charts Requires no previous knowledge of statistical theory Is supplemented by an instructor-only book companion site featuring data sets and a solutions manual to all problems, as well as a student book companion site that includes data sets and a solutions manual to all odd-numbered problems Statistical Quality Control: Using MINITAB, R, JMP and Python is an excellent book for students studying engineering, statistics, management studies, and other related fields and who are interested in learning various techniques of statistical quality control. It also serves as a desk reference for practitioners who work to improve quality in various sectors, such as manufacturing, service, transportation, medical, oil, and financial institutions. It‘s also useful for those who use Six Sigma techniques to improve the quality of products in such areas.

This book was released on 1990 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harold F. Dodge in 1945 defined an acceptance sampling plan, CSP-1, for inspecting a continuous sequence of units or lots which are outputs from a process operating in statistical control. The plan is to guarantee there will be a maximum average percent of nonconforming units in the inspected units equal to a selected Average Outgoing Quality Limit (AOQL). For twenty-six plans investigated when process conditions differ from those of Dodge, the average percent nonconforming only in a finite number of units inspected will be less than or equal to the AOQL of Dodge. Also, when the process percent nonconforming is changing according to certain patterns investigated, the average percent passing inspections will be practically no larger than the AOQL under Dodge assumptions.
