Book Synopsis Twentieth Century Physics by : L Brown
Download or read book Twentieth Century Physics written by L Brown and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 832 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twentieth Century Physics, Second Edition is a major historical study of the scientific and cultural development of physics in the twentieth century. This unique three-volume work offers a scholarly but highly readable overview of the development of physics, addressing both the cultural and the scientific aspects of the discipline. The three volumes deal with the major themes of physics in a quasi-chronological manner. The first volume covers the early part of the century while the second and third volumes discuss more recent issues. In each case, the development of the theme is traced from its inception to the present day. The list of contributors includes Nobel laureates, fellows of the Royal Society, and other distinguished international physicists. Where appropriate, specialists in the history of physics have written their own commentaries, providing a valuable counterpoint to the physicists' perspectives.
Book Synopsis Multiparticle Dynamics - Proceedings Of The Xxiii International Symposium by : M M Block
Download or read book Multiparticle Dynamics - Proceedings Of The Xxiii International Symposium written by M M Block and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-04-26 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This international meeting on ultrahigh energy multiparticle phenomena started with a summary of neutrino physics, followed by a detailed review of LEP results. It moved on to the fast-breaking field of rapidity gaps, hard pomeron and small-x structure functions at both Hera and the FermiLab Tevatron. The major collider experiments at FermiLab, and in particular, the results of the top quark search were presented in complete detail. The fields of intermittency, multiplicities, correlation functions, heavy quarks, soft and semihard hadronic physics, and the particle physics aspects of cosmic rays were subjects of spirited debate.

Book Synopsis Physics and Astrophysics of Neutrinos by : Masataka Fukugita
Download or read book Physics and Astrophysics of Neutrinos written by Masataka Fukugita and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-14 with total page 947 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Observations of neutrinos being emitted by the supernova SN1987A, star neutrinos, and atmospheric neutrinos have provided new insights into astronomy, as well as new unresolved phenomena such as the solar neutrino problem, spurring investigative studies among particle physicists and astrophysicists. One of the most important features of this book is its enumeration of a number of basic properties of neutrinos and their relationship to Grand Unified Theories, focusing on the origin of the neutrino's mass and the generation mixing of neutrinos. All the kamiokande results, detector performances, and complete references are included.

This book was released on 1999-07-13 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few years there has been considerable progress in improving the accuracy of parity violation experiments in electron scattering at high energy and in atomic physics. Recent results are a challenge to the standard electroweak theory and our understanding of hadron structure. This book is an extensive review of the advances in this field. The theoretical framework is presented at a pedagogical level, experiments and future projects are reviewed, and the results and their interpretation are discussed in depth.

This book was released on 2011-06-28 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2) the globalization of capital has far outstripped the ability of current labor movements, organized at best on a national level, to conduct an effective defense of the interests of labor within capitalism, let alone to seriously challenge the cap italist system. To develop some form-or forms--of international organization of labor, long an ideological challenge ("Workers of the World Unite") has now become an urgent matter of survival for the labor movements of the world. Here is a challenge, on which I think broad agreement is possible: Even those who think capitalism is capable of indefinite survival must agree that it has functioned best in the past-for example, during the long period of post-World War II expansion when the power of capital has been effectively limited by the countervailing power of labor. Effective exercise of that power has always depended on overcoming the seg mentation of labor due to such factors as locality, race, gender, occupation, etc. , which stilIremain important. Above, I have singled out the two factors that today seem key to me: the split between mental and manual labor, and segmentation by nationality. Let all concerned about the current state of capitalism work to build up the countervailing power of labor, and let time show whether this results in nothing more than the better functioning of capitalism, or whether a new challenge to the system ultimately emerges.
