Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 'Ner Elohim', Abulafia lays down the foundations of his entire system of prophetic Kabbalah. It begins with an interpretation of the Blessing of the Priests, where Abulafia explains that the effect of the blessing depends on the knowledge of holy names, their composition, and their function. This leads him to describe the basic principles behind the workings of holy names and letter combinations, as outlined in the fundamental kabbalistic text of Sefer Yetzirah, since 'formation cannot exist without the combination of letters'

Book excerpt: Too often the study of philosophical texts is carried out in ways that do not pay significant attention to how the ideas contained within them are presented, articulated, and developed. This was not always the case. The contributors to this collected work consider Jewish philosophy in the medieval period, when new genres and forms of written expression were flourishing in the wake of renewed interest in ancient philosophy. Many medieval Jewish philosophers were highly accomplished poets, for example, and made conscious efforts to write in a poetic style. This volume turns attention to the connections that medieval Jewish thinkers made between the literary, the exegetical, the philosophical, and the mystical to shed light on the creativity and diversity of medieval thought. As they broaden the scope of what counts as medieval Jewish philosophy, the essays collected here consider questions about how an argument is formed, how text is put into the service of philosophy, and the social and intellectual environment in which philosophical texts were produced.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of seventeen essays on pre-modern Hebrew poetry in honor of Wout van Bekkum. The articles in this volume all seek to examine how the religious, cultural, and social context in which the poet functioned impacted on and is visible, either explicitly or more elliptically, in their poetical oeuvre. For this purposes a broad understanding of "world" has been accepted, including both the natural world and the constructed one (society, culture, language) as well as the spiritual and emotional world. History, a pillar of the man-made constructed world, has been used to determine the boundaries: from Late Antiquity to the Middle Ages, and—in instances where the topic connects to older traditions—to Early Modern Judaism, i.e. pre-modern Hebrew (and Aramaic) poetry. The articles in this volume, in the breadth of their temporal and spatial range and their multiplicity of approaches and methodologies, highlight the richness of contemporary scholarship on Hebrew poetry. The volume invites the reader to engage with this astonishing body of poetry, while providing a glimpse into the world of the payṭanim, and the cultures and societies from which they drew their ininspiration and to which they made such important contributions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title The Gospel of Elohim was given to Maurice by God in the year 2020. Talking to God started at a very young age, about six years old. At that time, God introduced Himself to Maurice but never told him His name nor did any church he attended make any mention that God had a name. As his relationship grew with God, he always knew something was missing but was never quite sure what he was looking for. As his friends began to develop and be released in their gifts with God, Maurice was sure that God would release him so that he could begin to share the things God was sharing with him. Not true. Instead, God kept showing him more and more thing but never releasing him to share his knowledge. One day in his thirties, he heard a song singing the different names of God names he had never heard before. Though he now knew God had different names, no one really talked about these names. As Maurice visited different churches, he saw these names on many walls but no one explained these names. God was not through with him yet. He took him through many more trials and reveal more things but still had not revealed His name. One day, Maurice was now in his sixties, God spoke to Maurice and told him he had to learn Hebrew, but with no teacher. Maurice went about the slow process of putting the pieces together, learning Hebrew. One day, after many months of learning the alphabets of the Hebrew language, Maurice opened a Bible and, for the first time, read the first verse of Genesis 1, and there it was, in the beginning created Elohim, the first name mention of God in the Bible. Now through the book of Elohim, in these last days, Elohim wanted to introduce His church the name of their God Elohi

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kabbalistic Manuscripts and Textual Theory uncovers the unstated assumptions and expectations of scribes and scholars who fashioned editions from manuscripts of Jewish mystical literature. This study offers a theory of kabbalistic textuality in which the material book the printed page no less than handwritten manuscripts serves as the site for textual dialogue between Jewish mystics of different periods and locations. The refashioning of the text through the process of reading and commenting that takes place on the page in the margins and between the lines blurs the boundaries between the traditionally defined roles of author, reader, commentator and editor. This study shows that kabbalists and academic editors reinvented the text in their own image, as part of a fluid textual process that was nothing short of transformative. This book is certainly monumental, offering in its seven hundred pages a wealth of documentation and distilled argument that manages to be both comprehensive in its materials and transparent in its critical insights. It is rare indeed that a work of such formidable scholarship can actually be a pleasure to read and convincing in its elucidation of what are often extremely complex documentary circumstances and editorial traditions. For thousands of years we have prayed for one another. The march of progress through science has touched nearly every area of human experience; however, we tend to pray for one another as we have for thousands of years. We ask God to act.The final section of the book contains exercises and questions to help the reader make the foundation principles of how to be a wick in God's candle become deeply rooted in the soul. Imagine a world where people are committed to be wicks in God's candle. Perhaps this would be our prayer: United with the human family and living in conscious oneness with God, I am a wick in God's candle radiating light to the world. In this moment, the wicks of the world unite and earth is ablaze with God's goodness and light.
