Book Synopsis Forecasting Statewide Freight Toolkit by : Cambridge Systematics
Download or read book Forecasting Statewide Freight Toolkit written by Cambridge Systematics and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2008 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Federal planning legislation and regulations now mandate that state departments of transportation and metropolitan planning organizations consider the needs of freight when planning and programming transportation investments. While there are standard techniques used to forecast the movement of people, less attention has been paid to forecasting freight movements, and there are consequently fewer standardized techniques that state and local agencies can adapt to their local situation. This Toolkit is designed to provide transportation planners with the information they need to prepare forecasts of freight transportation by highlighting techniques successfully developed by state agencies across the country.
Book Synopsis Bonded Repair and Retrofit of Concrete Structures Using FRP Composites by : Amir Mirmiran
Download or read book Bonded Repair and Retrofit of Concrete Structures Using FRP Composites written by Amir Mirmiran and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2004 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global response to COVID-19 has demonstrated the importance of vigilance and preparedness for infectious diseases, particularly influenza. There is a need for more effective influenza vaccines and modern manufacturing technologies that are adaptable and scalable to meet demand during a pandemic. The rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines has demonstrated what is possible with extensive data sharing, researchers who have the necessary resources and novel technologies to conduct and apply their research, rolling review by regulators, and public-private partnerships. As demonstrated throughout the response to COVID-19, the process of research and development of novel vaccines can be significantly optimized when stakeholders are provided with the resources and technologies needed to support their response. Vaccine Research and Development to Advance Pandemic and Seasonal Influenza Preparedness and Response focuses on how to leverage the knowledge gained from the COVID-19 pandemic to optimize vaccine research and development (R&D) to support the prevention and control of seasonal and pandemic influenza. The committee's findings address four dimensions of vaccine R&D: (1) basic and translational science, (2) clinical science, (3) manufacturing science, and (4) regulatory science.

Book Synopsis State DOT Management Techniques for Materials and Construction Acceptance by : Gary Roderick Smith
Download or read book State DOT Management Techniques for Materials and Construction Acceptance written by Gary Roderick Smith and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1998 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to state Department of Transportation (DOT) materials and construction engineers; contract, procedure, and specification specialists; construction personnel managers; researchers; and private consultants. The synthesis describes the current state of the practice of state DOT management techniques for materials and construction acceptance, including approaches to inspection and testing. The associated requirements for maintaining adequate qualified personnel to operate the acceptance and testing programs are considered in the information reported. The information was collected by surveying state DOTs and by conducting a literature search. This report of the Transportation Research Board presents background information on the changing role of specifications, quality assurance processes, warranties, material certifications, and personnel management regarding the state of the practice for state DOT management techniques for materials and construction acceptance. In addition, detailed information is presented on personnel issues. The details of materials test methods and statistical quality control procedures are not included in the report. However, discussion of these technical aspects of materials and construction acceptance are included on the basis of their influence on personnel training requirements, and changes in administrative requirements.

Book Synopsis ITS Sensors and Architectures for Traffic Management and Connected Vehicles by : Lawrence A. Klein
Download or read book ITS Sensors and Architectures for Traffic Management and Connected Vehicles written by Lawrence A. Klein and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-08-07 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intelligent transportation system (ITS) offers considerable opportunities for increasing the safety, efficiency, and predictability of traffic flow and reducing vehicle emissions. Sensors (or detectors) enable the effective gathering of arterial and controlled-access highway information in support of automatic incident detection, active transportation and demand management, traffic-adaptive signal control, and ramp and freeway metering and dispatching of emergency response providers. As traffic flow sensors are integrated with big data sources such as connected and cooperative vehicles, and cell phones and other Bluetooth-enabled devices, more accurate and timely traffic flow information can be obtained. The book examines the roles of traffic management centers that serve cities, counties, and other regions, and the collocation issues that ensue when multiple agencies share the same space. It describes sensor applications and data requirements for several ITS strategies; sensor technologies; sensor installation, initialization, and field-testing procedures; and alternate sources of traffic flow data. The book addresses concerns related to the introduction of automated and connected vehicles, and the benefits that systems engineering and national ITS architectures in the US, Europe, Japan, and elsewhere bring to ITS. Sensor and data fusion benefits to traffic management are described, while the Bayesian and Dempster–Shafer approaches to data fusion are discussed in more detail. ITS Sensors and Architectures for Traffic Management and Connected Vehicles suits the needs of personnel in transportation institutes and highway agencies, and students in undergraduate or graduate transportation engineering courses.

Book Synopsis Mitigation of Nighttime Construction Noise, Vibrations, and Other Nuisances by : Cliff J. Schexnayder
Download or read book Mitigation of Nighttime Construction Noise, Vibrations, and Other Nuisances written by Cliff J. Schexnayder and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1999 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report describes current practice in mitigating nighttime construction nuisances such as noise, vibration, light, and dust. Roadway construction work is increasingly done at night to mediate traffic congestion; however, this trend also increases the potential for disturbing adjacent property owners. This report will be of interest to department of transportation (DOT) construction, design, and project engineers, and to those responsible for community relations. This report of the Transportation Research Board stresses the importance of informing project neighbors and establishing cooperative relations with the community as a first measure of successful mitigation. Examples show how project design can address construction nuisances by locating and sequencing construction operations to minimize their impact. Current practices used in source control, path control, and receptor control are described and documented in examples from the Boston Central Artery/Tunnel project and projects in Arizona and Salt Lake City, Utah. Appended materials provide sample specifications for mitigation of noise and dust control.
