Book Synopsis Handbook of Methods in Aquatic Microbial Ecology by : Paul F. Kemp
Download or read book Handbook of Methods in Aquatic Microbial Ecology written by Paul F. Kemp and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-02 with total page 1330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Methods in Aquatic Microbial Ecology is the first comprehensive compilation of 85 fundamental methods in modern aquatic microbial ecology. Each method is presented in a detailed, step-by-step format that allows readers to adopt new methods with little difficulty. The methods represent the state of the art, and many have become standard procedures in microbial research and environmental assessment. The book also presents practical advice on how to apply the methods. It will be an indispensable reference for marine and freshwater research laboratories, environmental assessment laboratories, and industrial research labs concerned with microbial measurements in water.
Book Synopsis Molecular Approaches to the Study of the Ocean by : K.E. Cooksey
Download or read book Molecular Approaches to the Study of the Ocean written by K.E. Cooksey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine biological science is now studied at the molecular level and although research scientists depend on information gained using molecular techniques, there is no book explaining the philosophy of this approach. Molecular Approaches to the Study of the Ocean introduces the reasons why molecular technology is such a powerful tool in the study of the oceans, describing the types of techniques that can be used, why they are useful and gives examples of their application. Molecular biological techniques allow phylogenetic relationships to be explored in a manner that no macroscopic method can; although the book deals with organisms near the base of the marine food web, the ideas can be used in studies of macroorganisms as well as those in freshwater environments.
Book Synopsis Environmental Exposure From Chemicals by : W. Brock Neely
Download or read book Environmental Exposure From Chemicals written by W. Brock Neely and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume series will describe the mechanisms that are operating on chemicals as thy move in the environment. Knowledge of these mechanisms is a vital component in performing a risk assessment. Volume I will deal with the physical and chemical properties of a material and how these influence the degradation and dissipating reactions. Volume 2 will address the transport of the chemical as it moves through the environment from the source to the final sink.
Book Synopsis Perspectives in Running Water Ecology by : M. Lock
Download or read book Perspectives in Running Water Ecology written by M. Lock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discipline of stream ecology has grown exponentially along with most other areas of science in the last three decades. The field has changed from a fish management-dominated poor-sister of limnology to a discipline with theoretical constructs and ecological insights as rich as those in any area of ecology. A focus on energy transformations, nutrient turnover and the storage and processing of organic substrates has greatly enhanced the development of current paradigms. For example, the data base on microbial-biochemical invertebrate interactions in streams is now very extensive. A survey of the stream ecology literature reveals the central role played by H.B. Noel Hynes, whom I believe to be the world's premier lotic ecologist. Professor Hynes produced the major text in the field ("The Ecology of Running Waters") which has served both as an integrative review and as a bridge between the fish-water quality orientation of the fifties and sixties to the process oriented, nutritional resource-watershed perspectives of the seventies. It should also be noted that Professor Hynes' book, "The Biology of Polluted Waters", served as a basic reference for the earlier period and he has published over 150 research papers, the great majority in stream ecology, spanning four decades.
