Book Synopsis National Interest and International Aviation by : Erwin von den Steinen
Download or read book National Interest and International Aviation written by Erwin von den Steinen and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of the problems and opportunities facing society today are determined by issues of mobility. Access to people, products, information and resources has emerged as a priority in the foreign policies of most states. Inevitably, considerations of national interest have played a central role in the structure and operations of the international aviation system. Meanwhile, air transport has been a catalyst for the phenomenon of globalization. This first in-depth exploration of the vital relationship between aviation policy and national interest in todays global economy focuses on those areas of concern where the international community has common ground or where conflicts of interest are most likely to arise. Revealing deeply informed perspectives gained from decades of distinguished public service in many areas of aviation policy, Erwin von den Steinen reviews the rules that govern the conduct of commercial air services between nations and considers the prospects of aviation in the 21st Century. He explains how timely understanding of national interest can provide a context for global and local policy to connect, and why the international aviation system is vital for the peaceful and sustainable development of modern states and societies. With such insights and powerful, practical recommendations, von den Steinens analysis will be of enormous value to those concerned with air transport, from technical research and design to the highest levels of government, as well as to lawyers and academics in international law and relations. anda tour of the major issues in international aviation law and policy under the guidance of an authentic homme engageand Ultimately, this book is the work of someone who deeply appreciates the aviation industry both at its technical level, that of its often-frustrating machinations of law and policy, and also at the emotional level of a special business that exemplifies freedom and imagination like few others do.and Brian F. Havel andThe Introduction has one of the best free flowing leads to a book detailing the politics of aviation and diplomacy I have come acrossand . Book Synopsis Defending the National Interest by : Stephen D. Krasner
Download or read book Defending the National Interest written by Stephen D. Krasner and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stephen Krasner's assumption of a distinction between state and society is the root of his argument for the superiority of a statist interpretation of American foreign policy. Here he challenges the two dominant and rival interpretations of the relationship between state and society: interest group liberalism and Marxism. He contends that the state is an autonomous entity acting on behalf of the national interest, and that state behavior cannot be explained by group or class interest. On the basis of fifteen case studies drawn from extensive public records and published literature on American raw materials policy in the twentieth-century, Professor Krasner provides empirical substance to the debate about the meaning of the "national interest," the importance of bureaucratic politics, and the influence of business on American foreign policy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reader contains a sample of the best essays published in the foreign policy quarterly. The National Interest during its first four years. The period covered by this volume was a critical one for American foreign policy. It represented a recovery of confidence after the uncertainty and self-laceration of the 1960s and 1970s. But it was also a period when dramatic events in the communist world raised fundamental questions about the ending of the Cold War and about prevailing American foreign policy. The essays in this volume examine the basic and enduring questions of international politics and the national security of the United States. These and related issues are discussed in the reader by leading American policymakers, academics, and commentators. Co-published with The National Interest.

Book Synopsis International Financial Integration by : Lars Oxelheim
Download or read book International Financial Integration written by Lars Oxelheim and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is widespread agreement in the current social and economic debate that the nations of the world are becoming increasingly integrated. Many structural signs in society also suggest that this is so. Integration has become a catchword in the prepara tions for the internal market of the EC, and a keynote in the debate about association for the European countries which do not belong to the Community. But when we turn to the question of how this integration should be measured, there is very little con sensus. Instead there are numerous problems, not only about how to measure integra tion but even about how to define it. In this book I shall discuss the import and implications of a particular type of integration, namely financial integration, and then look at the most important problems connected with measuring it. In the empirical investigation reported below I felt the need for an integrated micro-macro approach. Further, I decided to illustrate the measurement problems by studying a small and relatively open economy where exchange controls have been imposed by the government in an attempt to reduce the flow of interest-sensitive capital out of the country, and thus to acquire autonomy for the national monetary policy. An interview study has been carried out with a view to illustrating among other things how expectations are formed among the major actors on the financial market, and this provided additional input for an analysis of the level of financial integration.
