Book Synopsis Fending for Ourselves by : Rory Pilossof
Download or read book Fending for Ourselves written by Rory Pilossof and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2021-10-08 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zimbabwe celebrated its independence just over 40 years ago. While the nation is no longer young, its population certainly is: over 60% are under the age of 35. Understanding youth perspectives and experiences is therefore vitally important. Fending for Ourselves reviews the recent histories and realities of youths in Zimbabwe, offering a distinguished range of authors exploring issues of education, employment and work, the urban experience, involvement in the informal economy, mental health, and political activity. Importantly, the collection examines successive generations of youth in Zimbabwe to show how ideas, experiences and reactions to the social, political, and economic context have shifted over time. Many of the issues affecting youth over the past 40 years have been traumatic and distressing physical and mental abuse, declining employment and educational opportunities, poverty, ill-health and loss of hope but this collection underlines the agency and resilience of Zimbabwes young people, and how they have found ways to navigate the political, social, and economic terrains they occupy.

Download or read book Nursing and Nursing Education written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1983-02-01 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are presented of a study of nursing and nursing education that focused on the need for continued federal support of nursing education, ways to attract nurses to medically underserved areas, and approaches to encourage nurses to stay in the profession. Findings are presented on whether the aggregate supply of generalist nurses will be sufficient to meet future demand, and how changes that could occur in the health care system might affect demand. Attention is also directed to: how the current and future supply of nurses may be influenced by the costs of nursing education and the sources of education financing; and education for generalist positions in nursing. In addition, the supply and demand situation for nurses educationally prepared for advanced professional positions in nursing is examined. The influence of employer policies and practices in utilization of nursing resources on demand and supply is also addressed. Finally, areas in which further data and studies are needed to better monitor nursing supply and demand are identified. In addition to 21 recommendations, appendices include information on Nursing Training Act appropriations, state reports on nursing issues, certificates for specialist registered nurses, projections of registered nurse supply and requirements, and doctoral programs in nursing. Download or read book Male Bias in the Development Process written by Diane Elson and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues that the development process is marked by male bias - ill-founded and unjustified asymmetries that operate in favour of men and against women. The contributors include some of the leading writers in the gender and development field - Diane Elson, Delia Davin, Susie Jacobs, Carolyne Dennis, Alison MacEwan Scott and Ruth Pearson. Together they analyze the variety of forms taken by male bias: its foundations and the way it changes over time; and the possibilities of overcoming it. The cases considered cover both urban and rural settings; agriculture, industry and services; self-employment and wage-employment; and Africa, Asia and Latin America.
