Book excerpt: The Parkdale (P.E.I.) energy-from-waste plant consists of threetwo-stage controlled air combustion incinerators with flue gasheat recovery. The field tests were divided into two parts:characterization, to develop an understanding of the incineratoroperation, and performance, to examine the effects of variousoperating conditions on emissions from the incinerator. Parameters examined during characterization testing were primaryand secondary chamber temperatures, ram cycles, and refuseloading rate and frequency. The main process variable adjustedduring the performance tests was secondary chamber temperature. Emissions of concern were organics, including dioxins/furans;acid gases; particulates; and metals.
