Download or read book Convinced! written by Jack Nasher and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Competence does not speak for itself! You can't simply display it; you have to draw people's attention to it. World-renowned negotiation and deception detection expert, business professor, and mentalist Jack Nasher offers effective, proven techniques to convince others that we are talented, trustworthy, and yes, even brilliant. Nasher offers the example of Joshua Bell, possibly the world's most famous violinist. In January 2007, at rush hour, he stepped into a Washington, DC, subway station, dressed like any street busker, and began to play a $4,000,000 Stradivarius. It was part of an experiment staged by a journalist of the Washington Post, who expected Bell's skill alone to attract an immense, awed crowd. But Bell was generally ignored, and when he stopped, nobody applauded. He made $34.17. The good news is that you don't have to accept obscurity: you can positively affect others' perception of your talent. Whether you're looking for work, giving an important presentation, seeking clients or customers for your business, or vying for a promotion, Nasher explains how to use techniques such as expectation management, verbal and nonverbal communication, the Halo Effect, competence framing, and the power of nonconformity to gain control of how others perceive you. Competence is the most highly valued professional trait. But it's not enough to be competent, you have to convey your competence. With Nasher's help you can showcase your expertise, receive the recognition you deserve, and achieve lasting success.
Book Synopsis Federalism and Separatist Agitations in Nigeria by : Godwin Onu
Download or read book Federalism and Separatist Agitations in Nigeria written by Godwin Onu and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2024-09-17 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a reflection on the tension between federalism and separatist agitations in Nigeria. The persistent clamour for restructuring as well as the widespread separatist agitations in the country depicts a moral expression. It does so against the backdrop of the prevailing waves of sub-nationalist tendencies in different parts of the country, including the threat of secession in the South East. Considered across the variegated themes that form the thrust of the books are select practical and theoretical insights that are relevant in repositioning the federalist praxis in Nigeria in the interest of national unity and stability. The book will come handy to the communities of scholars, policy makers and practitioners who are involved in the earnest search for an answer to the federalism dimension of Nigeria’s nagging National Question. Students and the general reading populace will find the contents of the book quite insightful.

Book Synopsis Successful negotiation with the Driver-Seat Concept by : Hermann Rock
Download or read book Successful negotiation with the Driver-Seat Concept written by Hermann Rock and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-05 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this book, Hermann Rock provides time-structured core negotiation strategies that can be immediately applied in practice. The author's expertise comes primarily from negotiations in the context of M&A transactions and management investments. However, the concepts presented are equally applicable to negotiations of financing, car purchase, lease or service contracts and thus universally applicable. Three (scientifically based) basic strategies are presented, which the reader can adapt to his or her specific negotiation situation. The examples chosen for illustration are concrete cases negotiated by the author himself. With the certainty of having understood the three basic strategies, the reader enters the negotiation with a positive basic mood and thus creates the basis for his negotiation success. Hermann Rock has successfully presented his strategies for negotiation management many times in lectures and magazines (Focus) and now presents them for the first time in book form as a consistent further development of the Harvard concept.
Book Synopsis The Hidden Rules of Successful Negotiation and Communication by : Marc O. Opresnik
Download or read book The Hidden Rules of Successful Negotiation and Communication written by Marc O. Opresnik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-17 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Negotiations in professional or private life often take an unsatisfactory course due to stress, confrontation with aggressive or unfair behavior, or because of overwhelming situations. Negotiations generally require a thorough preparation, strategy and a sophisticated tactic to make us feel safe in the presentation of our goals and arrive at a mutually satisfactory outcome. Conventional books about negotiations are usually limited to strategies and techniques, but leave out elements of psychological communication and emotional intelligence, which include non-verbal communication and empathy, which in turn are essential for successful negotiation. Therefore, this book on the one hand constitutes the essential techniques and strategies in the context of negotiation, but also considers "soft skills" without which negotiations cannot be successful. This book presents practical examples in dealing with situations such as salary, contract and sales negotiations. In particular on context and time appropriate negotiation techniques; analyzing negotiation partners and their motives; interpret group processes, and how to successfully implement negotiation psychology.

Book Synopsis Environmental Resilience by : Percy Toriro
Download or read book Environmental Resilience written by Percy Toriro and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-21 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the production, distribution, regulatory and management frameworks that affect food in urban settings. It plugs a gap in knowledge especially in the sub-Saharan Africa region where food, despite its critical importance, has been ignored as a ‘determinant of success’ in the planning and management of cities and towns. The various chapters in the book demonstrate how urban populations in Zimbabwe and elsewhere have often devised ways to produce own food to supplement on their incomes. Food is produced largely by way of urban agriculture or imported from the countryside and sold in both formal and informal stores and stalls. The book shows how in spite of the important space food occupies in the lives of all city residents, the planning and regulatory framework does not facilitate the better performance of food systems.
Book Synopsis Tackling Youth Unemployment by : Francesca Fazio
Download or read book Tackling Youth Unemployment written by Francesca Fazio and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03-17 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Youth have always had higher unemployment rates – about twice or more than the average – as they are usually the last to be hired in an expansion and the first to be let go in a recession. In addition, young people engage in extensive job searching in their early years, and this can imply considerable job churning as both youth and employers look for a good match. This highlights the importance of facilitating the school-to-work transition and having early interventions to assist such youth before negative conditions set in. It also highlights the potential importance of determining those young people most “at risk” of long-term unemployment, and of targeting or streaming them into programmes that will yield the largest incremental net benefits given their characteristics. Unemployed youth without previous work experience often are not eligible for unemployment insurance benefits when they first enter the labour market. When they do receive job search assistance, they often face a bewildering array of programmes that are available to assist them, often with little guidance to help them select the programs that best meet their needs. Consequently, ensuring that today’s youth do not become a “lost generation” is an urgent matter. George Bernard Shaw once said that it is too bad that “youth is wasted on the young”, implying that youth do not realize the opportunities they have as youth and only see them as they get older. There is a danger, however, that many of today’s youth may be never have those opportunities and hence not even see them with hindsight. This book and others in the ADAPT Labour Studies Book-Series are intended to deal with these challenges, to make sure that youth is not wasted on the young.
