Elle a également évalué la nouveauté de ces deux pièces et dégagé ce qu'elles apportent à la construction littéraire des mythes de Pygmalion et d'Œdipe. Nous avons divisé notre étude en trois parties. La première a traité de la naissance et de l'évolution du théâtre égyptien contemporain. Elle a également rapproché l'utilisation du mythe que fait T. Al-Hakim dans ces deux pièces de celle faite par les dramaturges français de l'entre-deux-guerres et défini la méthode que nous avons employée tout au long de cette étude. La deuxième et la troisième, consacrées respectivement au mythe de Pygmalion et à celui d'Œdipe, ont examiné les textes anciens et les versions françaises du mythe qui nous semblent avoir pu exercer une influence sur celle de T. Al-Hakim, réfléchi sur la version de l'auteur égyptien et cerné ses emprunts au mythe ancien, l'influence des textes français et les modifications qu'elle opère dans le mythe. L'étude a prouvé que lorsque T. Al-Hakim s'inspire des mythes et des sujets antiques, il applique toujours sur ceux-ci le principe de la dualité imitation-innovation. Il a donné des mythes de Pygmalion et d'Œdipe un traitement nouveau qui était en parfaite harmonie avec ses valeurs spirituelles orientales d'une part et avec sa propre vision de la vie d'autre part. Tout en s'inspirant de la mythologie grecque, l'auteur a rendu celle-ci conforme à ses pensées et l'a repensée en fonctions des valeurs du milieu dans lequel il vivait.

The period between these two dates saw enormous political, social and economic changes that altered European society's cultural life. Tragedy, which had dominated the European stage at the beginning of this period, gradually saw itself replaced by new literary forms, culminating in the gradual decline of theatrical tragedy from the heights it had reached in the 1660s. The dominance of France's military and cultural prestige during this period is reflected in the important, almost exclusive, space dedicated in this volume to the French stage. Book excerpt: Dance as Text: Ideologies of the Baroque Body is a historical and theoretical examination of French court ballet over a hundred-year period, beginning in 1573, that spans the late Renaissance and early baroque. Utilizing aesthetic and ideological criteria, author Mark Franko analyzes court ballet librettos, contemporary performance theory, and related commentary on dance and movement in the literature of this period. Examining the formal choreographic apparatus that characterizes late Valois and early Bourbon ballet spectacle, Franko postulates that the evolving aesthetic ultimately reflected the political situation of the noble class, which devised and performed court ballets. He shows how the body emerged from verbal theater as a self-sufficient text whose autonomy had varied ideological connotations, most important among which was the expression of noble resistance to the increasingly absolutist monarchy. Frankos analysis blends archival research with critical and cultural theory in order to resituate the burlesque tradition in its politically volatile context. Dance as Text thus provides a picture of the complex theoretical underpinnings of composite spectacle, the ideological tensions underlying experiments with autonomous dance, and finally, the subversiveness of Molieres use of court ballet traditions.
