Book Synopsis The Mystwalker Series, The Complete Collection by : Leigh Evans
Download or read book The Mystwalker Series, The Complete Collection written by Leigh Evans and published by St. Martin's Paperbacks. This book was released on 2015-05-05 with total page 1330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enter the magical world of the Mystwalker series with the full e-book collection: The Trouble with Fate, The Thing About Weres, The Problem with Promises, and The Danger of Destiny from Leigh Evans. My name is Hedi Peacock and I have a secret. I'm not human, and I have the pointy Fae ears and Were inner-bitch to prove it. As fairy tales go, my childhood was damn near perfect, all fur and magic until a werewolf killed my father and the Fae executed my mother. I've never forgiven either side. The Trouble with Fate Today I'm a half-breed barista working at a fancy coffee house, living with my loopy Aunt Lou and a temperamental amulet named Merry, and wondering where in the world I'm going in life. But when a pack of Weres decides to kidnap my aunt and force me to steal another amulet, the only one who can help me is the last person I ever thought I'd turn to: Robson Trowbridge. He was a part-time werewolf, a full-time bastard, and the first and only boy I ever loved. That is, until he became the prime suspect in my father's death...And he's as annoyingly beautiful as I remember. The Thing About Weres Ever since I shoved Trowbridge through the Gates of Merenwyn, I've been the leader of the Creemore pack-hard to believe, right? The thing is: I'm still half-Fae. To make matters worse, the wolves of Creemore want my blood-and the North American Council of Weres wants me dead. So I'm just counting the days until Trowbridge returns from the other realm...and comes to my brave rescue...and becomes my alpha mate. Wishful thinking? Of course it is. But given all the mess I've been through already, what's the harm in doing a little bit of daisy-plucking? Besides, Trowbridge owes me bigtime. The Problem with Promises The thing is, my past is pretty messy and bad guys keep knocking down my door. Witches, thug bikers, the North American Council of Weres, dark magic Fae, and even an evil wizard are all after me. The Old Mage is the only one I really care about: He has my dear twin brother captive on the other side of the Gates of Merenwyn--not cool. Unfortunately, everyone who helps me ends up in a heap of trouble too--including my Trowbridge. Now, I admit I've had my moments as a shivering coward, hoping he will come to my brave rescue. The whole Prince Charming thing is hard to shake. But these bad guys after me mean business and those damsel in distress days are over. You know that "last straw" metaphor? That was two straws ago. It's now or never. The Danger of Destiny There are very few days off when you're on an epic quest. Believe me, I know. My twin brother is being held captive by the Old Mage in another realm. Lo and behold, as soon as Trowbridge and I arrive in Merenwyn, we're separated in spectacular, dramatic fashion-and I'm left to figure out how to maintain the fragile balance between my Fae magic and my wolf's blood in a realm that cries to both. Not easy, particularly when I'm keeping an iron-grip on my temper so as not to dispatch with extreme prejudice the odd wizard or smart-mouthed mutt servant who crosses my path. My mama never told me there'd be days like these, but I'm not going down without a fight...or my mate.

Download or read book Hero of My Heart written by Megan Frampton and published by Loveswept. This book was released on 2013-04-08 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this emotional and powerfully sensual tale of love and redemption, a tender vicar’s daughter and a tortured war hero discover that sin may be their only salvation. When Mary Smith’s corrupt, debt-ridden brother drags her to a seedy pub to sell her virtue to the highest bidder, Alasdair Thornham leaps to the rescue. Of course the marquess is far from perfect husband material. Although he is exceedingly handsome, with a perfect, strong body, chiseled jaw, and piercing green eyes, Alasdair is also too fond of opium, preferring delirium to reality. Still, he has come to Mary’s aid, and now she intends to return the favor. She will show him that he is not evil, just troubled. Mary was a damsel in need of a hero, but Alasdair’s plan is shortsighted. He never foresaw her desire to save him from himself. Alasdair is quite at home in his private torment, until this angel proves that a heart still beats in his broken soul. The devil may have kept her from hell, but will Mary’s good intentions lead them back to the brink—or to heaven in each other’s arms? Book Synopsis Pain Was My Middle Name by : Anita Chun
Download or read book Pain Was My Middle Name written by Anita Chun and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-02-13 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My main purpose in writing this book has been to share my experiences and triumphs with my fellow victims of rheumatoid arthritis. We don't have to be ashamed or embarrassed just because we have rheumatoid arthritis. The disease is not a crime or sin. It does, however, sentence us to life imprisonment. But there are ways to parole ourselves from this prison. Together we can combat this terrible disease with phenomenal results. I am living proof. Am I so different? Don't we all in the end have to learn patience and more patience, discipline and tenacity? My advice couldn't be simpler: "Think positive, think possibility and never give up." My RA is about as severe as it gets, but even with all my pain in the early years, I've managed to live a happy, full life. I'd even say "a normal life"-but who's normal? No one! My hope is that my experience will give you shortcuts for finding the normal life unique to you. -Anita Li Chun, author of Pain Was My Middle Name

Download or read book Women and Pain written by Mark Young and published by Hyperion. This book was released on 2002-01-16 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Women and Pain, Dr. Mark Young shows readers how to finally end their chronic, agonizing pain. Most women -- and indeed, many health care professionals -- don't know that: --Women often exhibit different symptoms than men for the same ailments; for instance, with coronary artery disease, where men typically feel chest pain but women more frequently report pain in the back, neck and jaw. Since most doctors are trained to look for and treat the typical male symptoms, many will misdiagnose a woman or tell her it's all in her mind -- when she is actually experiencing very serious symptoms. --Women have both lower pain thresholds and less pain tolerance than do men -- i.e., they feel more pain. --Certain classes of drugs work better to relieve women's pain than they do men's. --Women may be at greater risk for pain-related disability -- in part, because of their reproductive cycles. --Controversial new research reveals how anatomical differences between men and women may at least partially explain their distinct responses to pain. Finally, here is an empowering and revolutionary book by a medical doctor that recognizes what many women have long known: Our pain is a uniquely female issue . . . and many of our physicians simply don't understand how to deal with it. Studies now demonstrate that women feel more pain, seek help more aggressively, and are more open to alternative treatments than men. At last, Dr. Mark Young offers women the practical and complementary solutions that other practitioners may have overlooked. Women and Pain specifically addresses a complex array of strictly female symptoms and concerns -- from childbirth and menstrual pain to fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis -- that set us apart from men. Many women live with chronic, agonizing pain that affects every aspect of their lives. Traditional medicine can only offer drugs and surgery, but often neither is successful. Yet most women do not know of the many complementary and holistic treatments for pain that can provide great relief. Nor can they find out about alternative remedies from their doctors, who, when conventional remedies are exhausted, may dismiss pain as stress-related or "in your head." In addition, most traditional treatments are based on research that has only included men. Not only does Dr. Young show that women respond differently to pain and require different treatments, he also provides very specific remedies, backed by scientific studies, for relieving hundreds of painful ailments. Women and Pain covers the hormonal connection to pain; bone and joint pain; muscle and nerve pain; headache; sports injuries; and chronic, unending pain. In addition to describing the traditional medicine cabinet, the author includes foods that heal; muscle strategies, such as Shiatsu and massage; herbal and botanical remedies; exercises to speed healing; mind-body therapies; and acupuncture. He even includes recipes, such as "migraine meals," for certain problems. You can use most of the remedies on your own, although you will need to consult with your doctor about others, such as traditional medicine and acupuncture. This groundbreaking book will be welcome news to all the women who suffer from chronic pain, but who have had no lasting relief from doctors and traditional medical approaches.

Book Synopsis The Myth of Normal by : Gabor Maté, MD
Download or read book The Myth of Normal written by Gabor Maté, MD and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2022-09-13 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The instant New York Times bestseller By the acclaimed author of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, a groundbreaking investigation into the causes of illness, a bracing critique of how our society breeds disease, and a pathway to health and healing. In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health? Over four decades of clinical experience, Maté has come to recognize the prevailing understanding of “normal” as false, neglecting the roles that trauma and stress, and the pressures of modern-day living, exert on our bodies and our minds at the expense of good health. For all our expertise and technological sophistication, Western medicine often fails to treat the whole person, ignoring how today’s culture stresses the body, burdens the immune system, and undermines emotional balance. Now Maté brings his perspective to the great untangling of common myths about what makes us sick, connects the dots between the maladies of individuals and the declining soundness of society—and offers a compassionate guide for health and healing. Cowritten with his son Daniel, The Myth Of Normal is Maté’s most ambitious and urgent book yet.
Book Synopsis Feeling Pain and Being in Pain, second edition by : Nikola Grahek
Download or read book Feeling Pain and Being in Pain, second edition written by Nikola Grahek and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2011-12-16 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An examination of the two most radical dissociation syndromes of the human pain experience—pain without painfulness and painfulness without pain—and what they reveal about the complex nature of pain and its sensory, cognitive, and behavioral components. In Feeling Pain and Being in Pain, Nikola Grahek examines two of the most radical dissociation syndromes to be found in human pain experience: pain without painfulness and painfulness without pain. Grahek shows that these two syndromes—the complete dissociation of the sensory dimension of pain from its affective, cognitive, and behavioral components, and its opposite, the dissociation of pain's affective components from its sensory-discriminative components (inconceivable to most of us but documented by ample clinical evidence)—have much to teach us about the true nature and structure of human pain experience. Grahek explains the crucial distinction between feeling pain and being in pain, defending it on both conceptual and empirical grounds. He argues that the two dissociative syndromes reveal the complexity of the human pain experience: its major components, the role they play in overall pain experience, the way they work together, and the basic neural structures and mechanisms that subserve them. Feeling Pain and Being in Pain does not offer another philosophical theory of pain that conclusively supports or definitively refutes either subjectivist or objectivist assumptions in the philosophy of mind. Instead, Grahek calls for a less doctrinaire and more balanced approach to the study of mind–brain phenomena.
