Robert the Brus had been buried at Dunfermline Abbey; his most loyal lieutenants James Douglas and Thomas Randolph were dead as well. Tragedy struck quickly at Duplin Moor; the subterfuge of Scots in sympathy to Edward Balliol and the Disinherited led many bravepatriots to their unnecessary deaths. This third book of the Douglas Trilogy, the sequel to the Braveheart legacy takes the reader through the volatile years of the 14th century as the author crafts the true stories of the next generation of Douglas knights; the grandsons of Sir William le Hardi, Lord Douglas. Returning from their exile in Normandy and adventures in Piacenza, Italy, young William and his cousin Archibald the Grim seize the gauntlets of the doughty Douglas; the Patriotic Cause stirring in their blood they set their sights on liberating Scotland. Follow these Earls of Douglas as they embrace the words of the old Crusader; following their truth, defending the cause of Freedom in this exciting conclusion of the real-life story of the Douglas Clan and the Scottish Wars for National Independence.

Book excerpt: The magical saga of the women behind King Arthur's throne. “A monumental reimagining of the Arthurian legends . . . reading it is a deeply moving and at times uncanny experience. . . . An impressive achievement.”—The New York Times Book Review In Marion Zimmer Bradley's masterpiece, we see the tumult and adventures of Camelot's court through the eyes of the women who bolstered the king's rise and schemed for his fall. From their childhoods through the ultimate fulfillment of their destinies, we follow these women and the diverse cast of characters that surrounds them as the great Arthurian epic unfolds stunningly before us. As Morgaine and Gwenhwyfar struggle for control over the fate of Arthur's kingdom, as the Knights of the Round Table take on their infamous quest, as Merlin and Viviane wield their magics for the future of Old Britain, the Isle of Avalon slips further into the impenetrable mists of memory, until the fissure between old and new worlds' and old and new religions' claims its most famous victim.

Book excerpt: "From every pulpit in the land it needs to be thundered forth that God still lives, that God still observes, that God still reigns. Faith is now in the crucible, it is being tested by fire, and there is no fixed and sufficient resting place for the heart and mind but in the throne of God. What is needed now, as never before, is a full, positive, constructive setting forth of the Godhood of God." —A. W. Pink, The Sovereignty of God Who is actually in control of this world? Man? The devil? God? In this unabridged, best-selling classic, A. W. Pink tackles such profound questions in straight-forward language that the average Christian will find not only understandable but totally engaging. Pink explains that God's sovereignty is characterized in creation and in salvation, and then he describes its relationship to human will. Finally, Pink addresses the proper attitude believers should take toward God's sovereignty. Ultimately, Pink strongly believed that true faith rests "not in the wisdom of men but in the power of God." Pink was a student of theologians like St. Augustine, St. Aquinas, Calvin, and Jonathan Edwards, and his writing reflects it. Today, he is considered one of the most influential evangelical authors in the twentieth century.

Book excerpt: A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book excerpt: THE THICH NHAT HANH POETRY COLLECTION: Over 50 inspiring poems from the world-renowned Zen monk, peace activist, and author of The Miracle of Mindfulness. “ . . . the antidote to our modern pain and sorrows. His books help me be more human, more me than I was before.” —Ocean Vuong, author of On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous Though he is best known for his groundbreaking and accessible works on applying mindfulness to everyday life, Thich Nhat Hanh is also a distinguished poet and Nobel Peace Prize nominee. This stunning poetry collection explores these lesser-known facets of Nhat Hanh’s life, revealing not only his path to becoming a Zen meditation teacher but his skill as a poet, his achievements as a peace activist, and his experiences as a young refugee. Through more than 50 poems spanning several decades, Nhat Hanh reveals the stories of his past—from his childhood in war-torn Vietnam to the beginnings of his own spiritual journey—and shares his ideas on how we can come together to create a more peaceful, compassionate world. Uplifting, insightful, and profound, Call Me By My True Names is at once an exquisite work of poetry and a portrait of one of the world’s greatest Zen masters and peacemakers.

This book was released on 2022-09-15 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INVENTING THE TRUTH: MEMORY AND ITS TRICKS offers a collection of essays dealing with the author's life experiences as a gay man. Because exact accuracy is alien to the way memory works, the verifiable fictions in this book are, necessarily, inventions of the truth. Included essays examine the author's early cross-dressing and other childhood challenges to his birth gender, the important formative influences on him of his Catholic parish and school and the local public library, and his belated and complicated coming out as a gay man. Another essay offers a dialectic between lust and love. Defining himself as a "Promiscuous Hedonist" for most of his adult life, the author at long last discovered that love was real and that he could love another man in his own gay way. Subsequent essays investigate the influence on the author of his two immigrant grandfathers and the unsavory memories of a racist past growing up in Louisiana in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. A further essay explores the author's primal fears of darkness and death and how he achieved a satisfactory resolution of those fears. A final essay explores the reams of war-time letters that constituted the courtship of the author's parents who maintained their connection through letters for the nearly three years they were apart during WWII. These letters focus on the challenging beginnings of a 54-year love affair as well as on conditions during the war of a soldier overseas and his intended at home in Ohio whom he was courting by near-daily correspondence. The essays in this book offer accounts of seminal remembered experiences in the author's past now interpreted in a language unavailable to him at the time those experiences were occurring. In these reliable accounts, the author tells the truth about his gay life in the most honest way he knows how to invent it.
