Book excerpt: This book tells the true life story of the author, Abdul Tawab Assifi. It is written in three parts. Each part depicts unique circumstances and happenings in the authors life and that of his family. In part one, the author gives an account of his early life, including his schooling and the degrees he earned from reputable American universities. He then discusses how he utilized this knowledge to build his home country. Mr. Assifi climbed the professional ladder, becoming governor of an important Afghan province and then the minister of mines and industries before the Soviet Red Armys invasion and takeover of his homeland. Part two describes when all hell breaks loose in Afghanistan. It is an eyewitness account of the government coup and the murder of Afghanistans beloved president, his wife, his daughters and sons, and other women and children in his family. The author kept secret notes while he was in prison, and he managed to get those notes out once he was released. A daily account of these events, Assifis imprisonment, and the torture and slaughter of thousands of innocent people by the Communists, who had been trained by the Soviet Russian government, is provided in this part of the book, which is called The Origins of the Tragedy of Afghanistan. Part three is the story of the authors new life in the land of the free. It is an account of how the author managed to get his wife and children to America, which the author calls heaven on earth. In this part, Mr. Assifi speaks of the work he did in America and when he returned to Afghanistan to rebuild his destroyed homeland and provide assistance to its downtrodden people.

Book excerpt: Never did I once see what God wanted for me until the third and final time God saved my life. But one thing I can tell you is that my life was not the average man's life. I can tell you that if it had not been for A God of Mercy and Grace, being in my life, I would not be here today telling my story to the world. So to anyone out there who reads this book and feels like no one loves or cares about me. And he or she is an outcast or thinks, "why am I here on this Earth." just know that it took me 38 years to find out what my purpose was. Listen, we are all here for God's purpose and not our own. And that nothing i mean absolutely nothing happens in God's World by mistake. But most of all we have a right to be here. So to those of you who still believe that there is not a God, why am I here. Man could not do it, Scientist could not do it, But God could and would if he was sought. I am a Man of God; I have 4 grown children and eight wonderful grandchildren; I am engaged to a wonderful woman of God I am an advocate for Alcoholics Anonymous; I am also a Chess player and instructor. I have also taken a couple of classes, a speech class and a psychology class. I also have gotten my associates in social work from Kennedy King's College. I have also done some public speaking, my psychology classes have enhanced my outlook on humanity. Today I pray and read my Word daily, I now understand my God given purpose, and to hopefully help someone and to change lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreword by Steve Harvey and afterword by David Foster The Grammy-winning founder of the legendary pop/R&B/soul/funk/disco group tells his story and charts the rise of his legendary band in this sincere memoir that captures the heart and soul of an artist whose groundbreaking sound continues to influence music today. With its dynamic horns, contrasting vocals, and vivid stage shows, Earth, Wind & Fire was one of the most popular acts of the late twentieth century—the band “that changed the sound of black pop” (Rolling Stone)—and its music continues to inspire modern artists including Usher, Jay-Z, Cee-Lo Green, and Outkast. At last, the band’s founder, Maurice White, shares the story of his success. Now in his seventies, White reflects on the great blessings music has brought to his life and the struggles he’s endured: his mother leaving him behind in Memphis when he was four; learning to play the drums with Booker T. Jones; moving to Chicago at eighteen and later Los Angeles after leaving the Ramsey Lewis Trio; forming EWF, only to have the original group fall apart; working with Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond; his diagnosis of Parkinson’s; and his final public performance with the group at the 2006 Grammy Awards. Through it all, White credits his faith for his amazing success and guidance in overcoming his many challenges. Keep Your Head to the Sky is an intimate, moving, and beautiful memoir from a man whose creativity and determination carried him to great success, and whose faith enabled him to savor every moment.

Valentin was born in the Altai region of western Siberia. He has lived through almost the entire history of the Soviet Union-- exiled with his parents in Siberia, wounded while fighting the Nazi blockade of Leningrad in World War II, and finally becoming a priest. During his long life, Fr. Valentin has had innumerable experiences of God's mercy and has met a great many others who have experienced God in profound and at times miraculous ways. He has recorded these experiences in this book in order to strengthen people's faith, and in order to derive teachings on how to live as true Christians: with prayer, love for others, hope in God, humility, repentence, and forgiveness.--Publisher.

He had been diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and was undergoing radiation treatments that produced pain and mind-wrenching homesickness. At the same time, another 15-year-old boy was fighting for his life in a hospital room not far from Ernies. Tom had been forced to leave his home and was riding the rails, looking for work when he became sick. Thirteen years later, a second transplant occurred. This time it was Ernies brother, Raymond (Fat), who left the Minnesota farm to serve in World War Two. Fats letters home are replete with references to a brother with whom he shared a special bond while growing up together. Tribute: Th ree Lives Remembered is a story honoring the memories of three people whose worlds were both removed from and inextricably tied to each other. Its a story told through poignant letters that spoke consistently and longingly of hope for a return to the small farm in northern Minnesota and the people who lived there.

Book excerpt: Drawing on a great wealth of newly available sources, this definitive biography recounts the eventful life of a great writer spoilt by success—a life lived in the shadow of two world wars, and which ended tragically in a suicide pact. Matuschek examines three major phases in the life of the world-famous Austrian author—his years of apprenticeship, his years of success as a professional working writer in Salzburg, and finally his years of exile in Britain, the USA and Brazil. Including the sort of personal detail conspicuously absent from Zweig's memoir, and incorporating newly discovered documents, Matuschek's biography offers us a privileged view into the private world of the master of psychological insight.

I described ten places in our heads as homes of the human spirit. There are many publicly known people, who are involved in the move of the Earth to a higher dimension in 2013. More than 200,000 people live on Earth and at the same time on a parallel world, which is a home for immortal people. The evangelist John spoke with a Cross of Light. I believe that a new Cross of Light will appear on Earth soon.In July 1979 I met the devil and his wife on the inner-German border. I name some people, who have been the devil of previous Earth-like planets in older universes. Alex Collier wrote in '95 that since my 40th birthday (on 3/23/1994) vibrations leave all black holes of our (local) universe, changing its nature, lifting all planets into higher dimensions. I believe these frequencies come from the Immortals, living on Earth now, including me.

It includes at least a half dozen planetary bodies and is many times larger and much older than our own star and its system. Arcturian involvement with our system began over three million years ago when a space colony--a galactic space station--was established on Velatropa 24.4, otherwise known as Mars. With its 40,000-year warm cycles, Mars provided the perfect experimental way station. If anything went wrong, at least those on the Arcturus system would not be affected--or so it was thought. Some of those in command of the Martian project had not considered carefully enough the inexorable efficacy of karma, the law of cause and effect. By the time strange events began to transpire on Mars, little did anyone on Mars or Arcturus reckon the strange consequences of forgetting about each other's mutual existence. Thus unfolds the tale of the Arcturian experimental way station, V.24.4, otherwise kno

It’s twisting, contemplative, playful and darkly entertaining. What writer Benjamin Constable needs is a real-life adventure wilder than his rampant imagination. And who better to shake up his comfortable Englishman-in-Paris routine than the enigmatic Tomomi “Butterfly” Ishikawa, who has just sent a cryptic suicide note? She’s planted a slew of clues—in the pages of her journal, on the hard drive of her computer, tucked away in public places, under flowerpots, and behind statues. Heartbroken, confused, and accompanied by an imaginary cat, Ben embarks upon a scavenger hunt leading to charming and unexpected spaces, from the hidden alleys of Paris to the cobblestone streets of New York City. But Butterfly’s posthumous messages are surprisingly well informed for the words of a dead person, and they’re full of confessions of a past darkened by insanity, betrayal, and murder. The treasures Ben is unearthing are installments of a gruesome memoir. Now he must draw a clear line between the real and surreal if he is to save himself, Butterfly, and what remains of their crazy and amazing friendship.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What will your 100-year life look like? A new edition of the international bestseller, featuring a new preface 'Brilliant, timely, original, well written and utterly terrifying' Niall Ferguson Does the thought of working for 60 or 70 years fill you with dread? Or can you see the potential for a more stimulating future as a result of having so much extra time? Many of us have been raised on the traditional notion of a three-stage approach to our working lives: education, followed by work and then retirement. But this well-established pathway is already beginning to collapse – life expectancy is rising, final-salary pensions are vanishing, and increasing numbers of people are juggling multiple careers. Whether you are 18, 45 or 60, you will need to do things very differently from previous generations and learn to structure your life in completely new ways. The 100-Year Life is here to help. Drawing on the unique pairing of their experience in psychology and economics, Lynda Gratton and Andrew J. Scott offer a broad-ranging analysis as well as a raft of solutions, showing how to rethink your finances, your education, your career and your relationships and create a fulfilling 100-year life. · How can you fashion a career and life path that defines you and your values and creates a shifting balance between work and leisure? · What are the most effective ways of boosting your physical and mental health over a longer and more dynamic lifespan? · How can you make the most of your intangible assets – such as family and friends – as you build a productive, longer life? · In a multiple-stage life how can you learn to make the transitions that will be so crucial and experiment with new ways of living, working and learning? Shortlisted for the FT/McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award and featuring a new preface, The 100-Year Life is a wake-up call that describes what to expect and considers the choices and options that you will face. It is also fundamentally a call to action for individuals, politicians, firms and governments and offers the clearest demonstration that a 100-year life can be a wonderful and inspiring one.
