Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of how a strict Southern Baptist became a dedicated Catholic evangelist and teacher. The ways that God moved in my life were indeed strange. From early childhood until now His Holy Spirit has been my guide when I would follow and the one with the cattle prod when I hesitated. Some of the experiences told about in this book may cause skepticism, but every word is true! I have told some of the stories in different places, but this is the first time that the entire story has been written. It is my prayer that any who read it will be blessed and inspired to tell their own story.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parenting in England is the first study of the world of parenting in late Georgian England. The author, Joanne Bailey, traces ideas about parenthood in a Christian society that was responding to new cultural trends of sensibility, romanticism and domesticity, along with Enlightenment ideas about childhood and self. All these shaped how people, from the poor to the genteel, thought about themselves as parents, and remembered their own parents. With meticulous attention to detail, Bailey illuminates the range of intense emotions provoked by parenthood by investigating a rich array of sources from memoirs and correspondence, to advice literature, fiction, and court records, to prints, engravings, and ballads. Parenting was also a profoundly embodied experience, and the book captures the effort, labour, and hard work it entailed. Such parental investment meant that the experience was fundamental to the forging of national, familial, and personal identities. It also needed more than two parents and this book uncovers the hitherto hidden world of shared parenting. At all levels of society, household and kinship ties were drawn upon to lighten the labours of parenting. By revealing these emotional and material parental worlds, what emerges is the centrality of parenthood to mental and physical well-being, reputation, public and personal identities, and to transmitting prized values across generations. Yet being a parent was a contingent experience adapting from hour to hour, year to year, and child to child. It was at once precarious, as children and parents succumbed to fatal diseases and accidents, yet it was also enduring because parent-child relationships were not ended by death: lost children and parents lived on in memory.

Book excerpt: "MANCHILD" tells the heartbreaking story of a young boy named Jon, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. The child along with his mother endure endless persecution, both physically and psychologically throughout the story. The boy, beaten, severely abused and sexually assaulted before the age of seven sets the journey for early manhood with a strong and unbroken will to survive. Men war among one another in the streets of New York. Inner city neighborhoods provide the background for bookmaking, numbers racketing and loan sharking. Animal instincts versus violent intelligence make for formidable opponents. The child fades to the background at times as the madness continues, but just as the adults are, Jon is always there as well. Take the journey, but be prepared to encounter a scenario that will propel you to levels far beyond human comprehension. Perhaps you may smile every now and then, but it will not last very long. Anger alone will drive you through this story like a runaway train.

Recover) for injury- and performance-proofing young athletes in every sport Beginning as early as age 6 and continuing through the teenage years and on into their twenties, both male and female athletes are more at risk of serious injuries at younger ages than ever before. Dr. Tommy John, son of lefty pitcher Tommy John and also a sports performance and healing specialist, offers an invaluable diet, lifestyle, and movement plan (Rethink. Rebuild. Replenish. Recover) for injury- and performance-proofing young athletes in every sport. Dr. John explores the sudden rise of Tommy John surgeries being performed on young athletes today, as well as the many injuries--and the surgeries required to fix them--increasing at an alarming rate in baseball and all youth sports. Dr. John's book outlines the three top causes behind this "injury epidemic": The American lifestyle, the business of youth sports (from coaches to corporations), and the decisions we believe as parents are truly benefiting our children. Minimize Injury, Maximize Performance focuses on prevention, and also offers tips on how to tailor the advice for athletes coming back from an injury, with over 120 black and white photographs.

Book excerpt: No Looking Back was brought to life early one Sunday morning in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, where the author's Ted and Linda Riddle lived. Ted Sat straight up in bed and said, "I know how I died." That startled Linda, who was asleep next to him. His story flowed in such a way, it brought tears and laughter to her. She grabbed a yellow tablet and pencil and began writing. He did not slow down, so she could catch up. Soon she found a tape recorder and began recording this saga. Linda knew that this was not a dream. The tone of his voice was different and even the dialogue was strange, as Ted continued well into the morning. Later, when they both realized that this "gift", had to be published, Ted asked Linda to "add the sunsets and the eagles flying." She went to libraries as they traveled, even to Alaska twice, with their work and researched for facts for the book. She took pictures of locations where the story took place and drew illustrations. Names of their family members and friends were added, as the story developed. The story begins during the Civil War, when Thomas Summers and his brother John, join the Union Army. As Ted continues with his tale, he even knows the name of his wife, children, places and events. He knows how he died, so that is the first chapter in the book. The journey takes Tom and the reader through many life-threatening adventures, at every turn. Based on facts from Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma Territory, Texas, Kansas and Colorado, and a timeline of early western history, you feel that you are living each moment. There has never been a time or place like the early American West. Freedom was the quest of all who sought her.
