Book excerpt: A hilarious and indispensable guide to the weirdness of the workplace from Esquire editor and Entrepreneur etiquette columnist Ross McCammon Ten years ago, Ross McCammon made an incredible and unexpected transition from working at an in-flight magazine in suburban Dallas to landing his dream job at Esquire in New York. What followed was a period of almost debilitating anxiety and awkwardness—interspersed with minor instances of professional glory—as McCammon learned how to navigate the workplace while feeling entirely ill-equipped for achieving success in his new career. Works Well with Others is McCammon’s “relentlessly funny and soberingly insightful”* journey from impostor to authority, a story that reveals the workplace for what it is: an often absurd landscape of ego and fear guided by social rules that no one ever talks about. By mining his own experiences at the magazine, McCammon provides advice on everything from firm handshakes to small talk in elevators to dealing with jerks and underminers. Here is an inspirational new way of looking at your job, your career, and success itself; an accessible guide for those of us who are smart, talented, and ambitious but who aren’t well-“leveraged” and don’t quite feel prepared for success . . . or know what to do once we’ve made it. *Entertainment Weekly

Book excerpt: Moving with ease from the sordid tables of the Wrong Number Bar on the west side of Detroit, to the expansive Italian Villa of the Mafia's Sicilian don himself. Carl E. Prichard had scored another triumph of fast paced action with his third novel, VIRTUOUS TREPIDATION. As intrigue and happenstance link high priced prostitutes, quick thinking strong armed thieves, and the cold cruel business world of the Mafia, you find yourself drawn into a world you hope is only fiction, yet you know is very real. From the stench of Shaggy Dog's unkempt life style to the glitz of Las Vegas, the French Foreign Legend to Father Timothy's fight to save his parishioners, this is a novel that will keep you turning pages long into the night.

Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered what a guide dog does? How do they know to lead a blind owner? Can they understand traffic lights? Most importantly, how does the owner know where to pick up the poop? This memoir answers these questionsand more. It tells what guide dogs are supposed to do. Theyre smart, loyal and well-trainedbut not all dogs are created alike. Musket is proof of that. Hes definitely got a thing for treats and belly rubs. For the first time, the dog has his say. (Of course he needed a little help with the typing, since he doesnt have opposable thumbs. Thats where author Mark Carlson came in. Still, Musket is the brains of the outfit.) Mark and Musket tell their story with humor, emotion, and Muskets occasional contradictions. And at the end of the day, Musket somehow manages to be a great guide dog too. Confessions of a Guide Dog was written so a wonderful, devoted dog could reach out to those who havent been lucky enough to meet him. Hell make you smile, laugh, cry, and want to give him treats. This is their story. (And theyre sticking to it.)

As Woody struggles to cope with the people around him and adapt to the lives they lead, he fails to connect with anybody and he learns nothing. Frankly, he's kind of a dick. Book excerpt: He has intermittent flashbacks, collages of guns, crushing memories of a wife found murdered in a ditch, a young son, now estranged, who was kidnapped and then found walking alone in a convenience store parking lot. His name is Ti Boukman (pronounced tea book-mon); he is a Haitian–born, African–American filmmaker and sometimes-political activist, who solves crimes to help out friends. His female partner is South African born TV Reporter Malaika Gifford. His frequent sidekick is a homeless man who once had a family and a fancy house in a Black suburb. Payback is a Dog begins in 1996 with a fatal auto accident which turns out to be a murder, motivated by events that took place 25 years ago. Back then, dangerously ambitious FBI Agent, Allen Serica manipulated a paid informant to commit heinous acts, and later illegally removed the uncensored documents delineating these acts from the bureau files. Serica is now security chief at a major corporation and when his stolen files turn up missing, he searches for them brutally. Soon, revenge becomes a popular motivation. In the end, there is one big bloody payback, culminating this novel's Caribbean–style basket weave of a murder mystery, love story and political thriller. The 1973 hit song by the Stylistics inspired the title.
