Book excerpt: I started writing poetry when I was seventeen years old; I found out that when you put your thoughts into words sometimes magic happens. I'm not talking about genies popping out of a bottle or anything like that, but in how I see things clearer and how beautiful this world truly is. I found out later in life how much easier it was to find a date in high school. I used to try and talk to girls and found out sometimes I'd get a little gun shy and pass up my chance. Then one day, I wrote a poem for this girl I had my eye on. I walked up to her and handed her the poem and then walked away. Later she approached me and we went out on a date. I found the magic potion to breaking the ice (so to speak) was a piece of paper and a writing pen. I learned how to put my thoughts down on a piece of paper, which later I put into a blank book that I would write my poems in. After I was told by at least fifty or so people that I should share these poems to others, I sat down and sorted out the poems I thought could touch your heart the best. I hope my poems are inspirational enough to help you create your own book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A poetry collection that both illustrates what mindfulness is and encourages young, growing minds to be present, from poet and educator Georgia Heard, with art by Isabel Roxas. Poets have long observed the world in a mindful way. They point out beauty we might have missed, draw our attention to our inner thoughts, and call us to see our society in new ways. But as daily life become more and more chaotic, children grow distracted. According to the CDC, 9.4% of children have ADHD and 7% have anxiety/depression. And these numbers continue to climb. As treatment doctors recommend healthy eating, physical activity, plenty of sleep, and mindfulness techniques. Georgia Heard is a poet and educator—and she has long had her own meditation practice. In My Thoughts Are Clouds, she uses poetry to demonstrate what mindfulness is and gives kids—and their parents and teachers—accessible ways to learn mindfulness tools.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul’s writing spirit was revived in 1993 and he was re-inspired by a friend named Kim to renew his poetic writing and thus A FRIEND MADE ME REMEMBER WAS BORN to be followed by another book entitled FOR THE LOVE AND LOVER IN YOU. Three poems from that book are found in the highly acclaimed book THE CHOCOLATE SHIP by celebrated author Marissa Monteilh who also wrote MAY DECEMBER SOULS, HOT BOYZ, MAKE ME HOT AND MORE. Ms. Monteilh also wrote, “Paul Bennett is poetically talented beyond his years. A FRIEND MADE ME REMEMBER will lyrically touch each of your senses, and passionately stroke your soul. You will be moved, you will be touched, and your heart will be warmed by the flow of his genius.” Debra Clayton, celebrated author of RAP SUPERSTAR wrote, “blessed and truly talented. Although I find all of your poems to be intoxicating and mesmerizing, there were a few that climbed into my heart. God has blessed you with an incredible gift. Let the rest of the world experience what I experienced when I read your touching, thought provoking words.” Bennett’s writing spawned an anthology of poems contained within and reflects not only his gifted penchant for writing poetry, but reveals something about the man, his strong feelings for family, people and the world in which we live.

Book excerpt: For this companion to her New York Times best-selling collection A Family of Poems, Caroline Kennedy has hand-selected more than a hundred of her favorite poems that lend themselves to memorization. Some are joyful. Some are sad. Some are funny and lighthearted. Many offer layers of meaning that reveal themselves only after the poem has been studied so closely as to be learned by heart. In issuing the challenge to memorize great poetry, Caroline Kennedy invites us to a deeply enriching experience. For as she reminds us, “If we learn poems by heart, not only do we have their wisdom to draw on, we also gain confidence, knowledge and understanding that no one can take away.” Illustrated with gorgeous, original watercolor paintings by award-winning artist Jon J Muth , this is truly a book for all ages, and one that families will share again and again. Caroline’s thoughtful introductions shed light on the many ways we can appreciate poetry, and the special tradition of memorizing and reciting poetry that she celebrates within her own family.

Section one is about Love and the ups and downs invloved with finding the right one. Also the feeling of failure when a relationship does not turn out the way you perceived. Section two is about the daily struggles in life. Building the strength from within to turn a death ear to negativity. Also feeling good about yourself and standing up for yourself. These things will build our self-esteem and self-worth.
