Book Synopsis Hiking the Oregon Coast Trail by : Ken Patton
Download or read book Hiking the Oregon Coast Trail written by Ken Patton and published by KenKinetic. This book was released on 2022-05-03 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “As I read Hiking the Oregon Coast Trail (or How I Got Revenge On My Sister), I felt as if I were making the trip with Ken. His absorbing account and over one hundred striking photos convey the beauty of the Oregon Coast. His tenacity carried him through cold nights, bushwhacking, and blistered feet; and his sense of humor served him well throughout the journey. If you are looking for an adventure without the blisters, I highly recommend this book.” – Lynne N. Cosby, Freelance Editor If you drive on Highway 101 down the coast from the Columbia River to the California border, the distance is about 360 miles. Walking the trails and beaches is a lot farther, somewhere around 460 miles if you include those acquired while wandering around lost or backtracking when the trail is blocked by high tides. This is a good “starter” adventure for a guy like me, who dreams of adventure but is actually pretty timid and not anxious to experience real adventure, which too often includes things like hunger and fear and pain and suffering. Will I enjoy this hike as much as I’ve dreamed? I hope so. It’s time to find out. Book Synopsis Adventures of the First Settlers on the Oregon Or Columbia River, 1810-1813 by : Alexander Ross
Download or read book Adventures of the First Settlers on the Oregon Or Columbia River, 1810-1813 written by Alexander Ross and published by Westphalia Press. This book was released on 2018-09-26 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soon after information from Lewis and Clark's expedition to chart the western region of the United States was shared, investors and explorers sought ways to capitalize on the information. In this work, Alexander Ross details the trials and tribulations of one such expedition, now known as the Astor Expedition. Ross was employed by John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company, and this led to the founding Fort Astoria, an American outpost near the Columbia River. Although the title suggests that members of Astoria were "the first settlers" of the region, it fails to consider the numerous indigenous tribes Ross encountered and described in great detail. For example, this work includes an appendix of Chinook vocabulary, highlighting how extensive and advanced the indigenous populations were that had already settled in that region. The fort itself was populated by a variety of people, including French-Canadians, Scots, Hawaiians, Americans, and a variety of indigenous North American peoples, such as Iroquois. Due to the War of 1812, the fort was bought out by the North West Company, which renamed it Fort George.
