As I stepped out into His obedience, He also asked me to paint the cover of the book and showed me exactly how He wanted it to look. Gracy is a wild rabbit from England who shares her true story of how she lost her own family when she was only a baby and how she was rescued by her new mummy when she felt all alone, hungry and scared. From being fed with a little syringe to eating all on her own, Gracy shares how she grew bigger and stronger every day and how she realised it was Jesus who brought her to her new loving family. Gracy also discovers her new mum's love for Jesus and starts seeing how much He really loves and cares for all of us. She loves her new cat brother Simba very much and shares her own photos of her journey to take children a bit deeper into her story of true love and grace. Its a story that will warm any child's heart as they get to know Gracy and learn all about her new life with her new family and how Jesus provides for all their needs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eleven-year-old KATTY and her younger brother JAKE come together to form the 'Enviro Kids', but they still play, bicker, and fight. MUM and DAD do their parenting duties but only when they are not bickering themselves over the chocolate brownies. Mum is going to miss her chocolate brownies. So too is Dad! SERGIO complains about chopped down trees and burning fires of destruction of the forest. Animals perish in the fires; animals are orphaned in the chaos and destruction. Soot clings to everything; trees die forever. The rainforest is disappearing - the lungs of the Earth are wheezing. This is everybody's environment and everybody's planet. Katty and Jake are on a mission, and the battle is on against the filthy pollutants. With the help of their school science teacher, MISS VIOLET, things were going to change before it was too late. Miss Violet conducts pollution experiments, and they begin a crusade to help the Amazon rainforest and to start their tree planting campaign. Katty is one small girl in a very big world who witnesses deforestation. There are a handful of suspects and a lot more baddies. The rainforest is filled with eerie chitter-chatter whispers. All aboard the journey of discovery, where nothing is as it seems! Everything is burning out of control. Time is running out. Seriously! The trees are burning; the forest is disappearing. A mystery story that is not actually a mystery! Get it? Oh, you defo will get it. Boomerang! is a children's story detailing the adventures of Katty, her brother Jake and their parents as they travel to the Amazon rainforest. Amongst other things, they discover magical trees called the Mystrees, come face to face with a caiman crocodile and meet a talking owl. With these mystical elements, the story has many aspects that are enjoyed in children's stories in the current market. But what is unique here is the way the author delicately, but with conviction, addresses the issues of climate change in a way that children will understand. This is the biggest strength of the story. The writing goes up a gear when the animals, the pollutants and Katty talk about the environmental issues and so it's clear that this is something the author is passionate about. Overall, it's a fun story about family but also about standing up for the environmental issues you believe in.

Book excerpt: With Sandra Dallas's incomparable gift for creating a sense of time and place and characters that capture your heart, The Last Midwife tells the story of family, community, and the secrets that can destroy and unite them. It is 1880 and Gracy Brookens is the only midwife in a small Colorado mining town where she has delivered hundreds, maybe thousands, of babies in her lifetime. The women of Swandyke trust and depend on Gracy, and most couldn't imagine getting through pregnancy and labor without her by their sides. But everything changes when a baby is found dead...and the evidence points to Gracy as the murderer. She didn't commit the crime, but clearing her name isn't so easy when her innocence is not quite as simple, either. She knows things, and that's dangerous. Invited into her neighbors' homes during their most intimate and vulnerable times, she can't help what she sees and hears. A woman sometimes says things in the birthing bed, when life and death seem suspended within the same moment. Gracy has always tucked those revelations away, even the confessions that have cast shadows on her heart. With her friends taking sides and a trial looming, Gracy must decide whether it's worth risking everything to prove her innocence. And she knows that her years of discretion may simply demand too high a price now...especially since she's been keeping more than a few dark secrets of her own.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A light-hearted memoir from a music-loving lady of advanced years coping with the effects of MS and following the band BASTILLE. It shows the importance of the internet during the Covid lockdowns, from like-minded fans connecting with each other to remaining up-to-date with BASTILLE news and live 'living-room mini-shows.' It describes how some of her online friends became real friends in person when Covid eased off. Her good fortune to choose to follow a band well known for their upbeat songs about disasters (?) is noted. Her interactions with the lead singer, Dan Smith, were a surprise to everyone and we discover that the entire band are kind and generous to their fans and colleagues. Her trips around the UK for shows are recounted and found to be unexpectedly enriching her life, touched by the amount of kindness afforded to her by companions, fans and venue staff. Written primarily for fans of BASTILLE, it includes a puzzle challenge to find familiar song titles and lyrics within. The story may also chime with disabled concert goers with the pre-concert preparations required to gain tickets and also the logistics needed to attend. What particularly comes across is the affinity that developed between multi-aged fans over the course of two fun-filled years.

Aru, still coming to terms with her mother Sumi's death in a road accident and her father Gopal's desertion of the family prior to that, remains the force that binds the lives of her sisters and her aunts. But tragedy strikes the family again, in the form of a devastating act of terrorism and a heinous crime and Aru has to face some of her life's toughest moments. Shadow Play is a masterful meditation on kinship, marriage, ambition and the changing face of urban India. Filled with a memorable cast of characters, it also tells the story of Kasturi, trying to find understanding and peace after enduring extreme cruelty and heartbreak. Kalyani, who atones for the wrongs society deals its women through an act of generosity in her death and Gracy, Tressa and Ramu, a family torn asunder by a senseless act of violence. In Shadow Play, one of India's most respected and accomplished novelists has produced a work that is deeply humane and contemplative—as much about the ephemeral nature of human life as it is about the enduring relationships that give it meaning.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Probably the finest genealogical record ever compiled on the people of ancient Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, this work consists of extensive source records and documented family sketches. Collectively, what is presented here is a veritable history of a people--a "tribe" of people--who settled in the valley between the Yadkin and Catawba rivers more than two hundred years ago. The object of the book is to show where these people originated and what became of them and their descendants. Included among the source records are the various lists of the Signers of the Mecklenburg Declaration; Abstracts of Some Ancient Items from Mecklenburg County Records; Marriage Records and Relationships of Mecklenburg People; List of Public Officials of Mecklenburg County, 1775-1785; First U.S. Census of 1790 by Districts; Tombstone Inscriptions; and Sketches of the Mecklenburg Signers. The work concludes with indexes of subjects and places, as well as a name index of 5,000 persons. (Part III of "Lost Tribes of North Carolina.")

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Translated from the Malayalam by Abhirami Girija Sriram and K.S. Bijukumar Jezebel, a young doctor in Kerala, struggles against the cruel realities of a patriarchal world-realities that not even her education, resolve or professional brilliance can shield her from. Her already contentious divorce proceedings go suddenly awry, and her unhappy marriage holds complex secrets. In K.R. Meera's blistering new novel, which takes the form of a courtroom drama to show us the rich inner worlds of its characters, we see Jezebel reflect on her life and its pivotal points as she takes the stand. Through her memories, we see her grow from a reticent, serious young woman to a rebel who refuses to bend to the conventions of society. Like the Biblical story of Queen Jezebel, who was much maligned as a scheming harlot and infamously thrown to her death from her palace window, Jezebel is a novel that asks if independent women can ever live lives that are free of judgement K.R. Meera's hypnotic prose, in this elegant translation from the Malayalam by Abhirami Girija Sriram and K.S. Bijukumar, makes resonant allusions to the Bible in powerful ways that elucidate the correlations between legend and the protagonist's life while also exploring how sexuality and gender roles are manipulated by the dictates of society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'A craze blown across the Channel from Britain to Brussels - people who meet to talk about the works of the Brontë sisters.' (From a Brussels press article about the newly-formed Brussels Brontë Group). In 1842 Charlotte and Emily Brontë arrived in Brussels to study French at the Pensionnat Heger boarding school at the bottom of the 'Belliard steps'. Their stay in the Belgian capital is the least-known episode of their lives, despite the importance of Charlotte's years in Belgium for her life and work; two of her novels ('Villette' and 'The Professor') were inspired by her time in Brussels and her love for her teacher, Constantin Heger. 'Down the Belliard Steps' tells the story of a group of enthusiasts coming together in Brussels to explore the sisters' time in the city. Beginning with her personal experience as a newcomer to 'the capital of Europe' in 2004, Helen MacEwan tells of her journey of discovery into the history of a vanished quarter of Brussels and her quest to seek out fellow Brontë enthusiasts - a quest that leads to the formation of a literary society, the Brussels Brontë Group. 'Down the Belliard Steps' describes the people she encounters and the adventures she has along the way. We meet an Heger descendant, learn about the re-discovery of a lost Brontë 'devoir' (one of the Brontës' 40 extant French essays written under Heger's direction) and search in Brussels cemeteries for the tomb of a friend of the Brontës who died in a Brussels school. We meet researchers and people inspired creatively by the Brontës. We delve into what it is that draws so many people, from all walks of life, to feel an affinity with members of the world's most famous literary family. Today, the Brussels Brontë Group is a flourishing, multinational literary community, promoting interest in the Brontës through talks, guided walks and reading groups. 'Down the Belliard Steps', crammed with information and anecdotes about Charlotte and Emily's time in the Belgian capital, is a light-hearted but intensely personal and romantic account of the Group's genesis and flowering. The book is a 'must-read' for literary enthusiasts and if any encouragement were needed to visit the Brontës' Brussels, it would be difficult to find anything more seductive than this enchanting narrative.
