Our aim is to provide readers with the highest quality reproductions of fiction and non-fiction literature that has stood the test of time. The many thousands of books in our collection have been sourced from libraries and private collections around the world. The titles that Trieste Publishing has chosen to be part of the collection have been scanned to simulate the original. Our readers see the books the same way that their first readers did decades or a hundred or more years ago. Books from that period are often spoiled by imperfections that did not exist in the original. Imperfections could be in the form of blurred text, photographs, or missing pages. It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Generally, Trieste books are purchased singly - on demand, however they may also be purchased in bulk. Readers interested in bulk purchases are invited to contact us directly to enquire about our tailored bulk rates.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from My Musical Memories I think it was Lord Beaconsfield who said that a man is usually interesting in proportion as his talk runs upon what he is familiar with; and that as a man usually knows more about himself than about anything else, he seldom fails to be tolerable if his self-centred talk turns out to be unaffected and sincere. To talk about one's self and to be dull is nevertheless possible. In the early pages of this volume I shall have to do the first to a considerable extent; let me hope to avoid the second. Music is not the business of my life, but it remains its sweetest recreation; and there is one opinion which used to be widely held by my friends in the old days, and to which I subscribed for many years. Nature, they often said, intended me for a violinist. In fact, my musical life starts from the violin; and, "Stradivario duce" - Stradivarius leading the way - I feel inspired, "after long years," to retrace with a certain keen pleasure these labyrinthine passages of Musical Memory. There is something about the shape of a violin - its curves, its physiognomy, its smiling and genial 's - which seems to invite and welcome inspection and handling. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for Popular Music Books (2002) Winner of the Society for Ethnomusicology's (SEM) Alan P. Merriam Prize (2003) Salsa is a popular dance music developed by Puerto Ricans in New York City during the 1960s and 70s, based on Afro-Cuban forms. By the 1980s, the Colombian metropolis of Cali emerged on the global stage as an important center for salsa consumption and performance. Despite their geographic distance from the Caribbean and from Hispanic Caribbean migrants in New York City, Caleños (people from Cali) claim unity with Cubans, Puerto Ricans and New York Latinos by virtue of their having adopted salsa as their own. The City of Musical Memory explores this local adoption of salsa and its Afro-Caribbean antecedents in relation to national and regional musical styles, shedding light on salsa's spread to other Latin American cities. Cali's case disputes the prevalent academic notion that live music is more "real" or "authentic" than its recorded versions, since in this city salsa recordings were until recently much more important than musicians themselves, and continued to be influential in the live scene. This book makes valuable contributions to ongoing discussions about the place of technology in music culture and the complex negotiations of local and transnational cultural identities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Musical Memories of Hartford: Drawn From Records Public and Private A foreword! Hartford! With its fifty years and more of musical history, which it would be impossible to relate in full. Where begin, where end! At first it was my intention to write only of what was within memory, with the hope that to those who are living, many pleasant events, long since forgotten, would be recalled. Then the past, with its traditions became fascinating, and I found myself dipping into the far past the beginnings of music in Hartford. This led to encouragement that possibly the next generation would find interest in reading about the musical events that had come within the lifetime of this gen cration. It has been my idea not only to tell about Hartford's musicians of note and what they accomplished, but also as far as was practical to speak of the opportunities we have had in listening to artists and the fine music brought to us. The accounts naturally were obliged to be fragmentary. As a small contribution to my much beloved city of Hartford, I have gladly gathered together these facts about the friends and musicians who made the days of progress possible. To all those who have helped and many have been called upon to clear fading memories, supply old pro grammes, answer many questions and give kindly criticism my deep gratitude is felt and warmest thanks are given.
