Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here are basically three reasons for writing this book: 1) To leave a legacy. 2) To present some personal church experiences. 3) To introduce actions on differing crimes against society. I have many thoughts and reflections on how I have been treated by church folk. One Sunday a mentor approached me and handed me a journal saying, "Here, you will need this to keep record of your journey." One day you will look back and wonder how you accomplished so much! For a while, I was journaling on a regular basis. Then it dawned on me to take notes or journal in church, so I could study more later. After looking back and reflecting, I was inspired to write a book. It is a way to share some awareness of church activities that can really leave you feeling disappointed. The revolution presently going on revealed unlawful acts, including some that have been questioned and shut down such as job and sexual harassment, along with fraternity initiation crimes. In my opinion, these are shameful acts against society. Our advanced and global world must not ignore these actions. Speak out, be heard even if it is your church folk.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From bestselling author Michele Andrea Bowen, the uproarious sequel to her hit novel Church Folk. It is now 1986, and the preachers of the Gospel United Church are preparing for their much-anticipated Triennial General Conference. The last time readers encountered the good Rev. Theophilus Simmons, he was a newlywed and the pastor of a modest-sized congregation in Memphis. Now he's the father of three and running a congregation in St. Louis. His best friend, Rev. Eddie Tate, is now with a fast growing church in Chicago, but he is getting real frustrated with the way things are run in the Gospel United Church. Marcel Brown and his father, Ernest, along with Sonny Washington and Bishop Larsen Giles have had two decades to perfect their slimy methods of "tapping" church funds and other misdeeds. Now they've found a secret weapon that will allow them to make fast money and accomplish what they failed to do 20 years ago--buy off enough power to dominate the entire denomination, put their cronies in key spots, and ransack the church like it is the spoils of war. It won't be long before the two opposing sides face off..."church-folk" style.

Book excerpt: The real names have been changed to protect the guilty, and should the likeness of any character in this book appear to resemble any individual, it is purely intentional. Also I have deliberately embellished on certain factual accounts in the book, purely for effect. This book is being written, to let church-folk everywhere know, that you are not alone, and that the goings on at your local church are not isolated incidences, there is mess in every church, and my prayer is that you will stand fast, stay put, and put the devil on the run. There were no collaborators, no extensive research done, no accolades to give to anyone. This is one mans journey from faith to faith, through his own eyes. If the book is a failure, I take full responsibility, the failure is not in God, it's in me. I am simply saying what the spirit is saying to me, and through me; "Thus saith the Lord"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jake Colsen, an overworked and disillusioned pastor, happens into a stranger who bears an uncanny resemblance (in manner) to the apostle John. A number of encounters with John as well as a family crisis lead Jake to a new understanding of what his life should be like: one filled with faith bolstered by a steady, close relationship with the God of the universe. Facing his own disappointment with Christianity, Jake must forsake the habits that have made his faith rote and rediscover the love that captured his heart when he first believed. Compelling and intensely personal, So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anything relates a man's rebirth from performance-based Christianity to a loving friendship with Christ that affects all he does, thinks, and says. As John tells Jake, "There is nothing the Father desires for you more than that you fall squarely in the lap of his love and never move from that place for the rest of your life."

Book excerpt: Pastor and preaching coach, Dr. Yancey Arrington offers a new paradigm for message preparation - one that focuses on seeing sermons emotionally, where preachers will be trained on discovering a message's emotional center, charting sermon bandwidth, and leveraging one's God-given personality in the preaching event. This innovative approach to preaching can produce more effective seasons in the pulpit where congregants are carried `down the mountain' of messages in such a way they can't wait to do it again!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Believers know that when we die we enter heaven and will spend eternity there with God and the saints who have gone before us. But what actually happens in heaven? What are we going to be doing there? Won't it get boring at some point? According to Scripture, a large part of our experience of heaven will be a continual revealing of God's glory. Not just his glory in the moment, but during all of time. The mysteries of providence, the hidden movements of God throughout history, and the forgotten and unnoted works of even the most obscure of God's people will be unveiled so that we can see how wise, loving, gracious, and powerful our God is. And though we will experience perfection in heaven, we will never be omniscient, which means we will always be learning more about God's glory, inspiring us to return joyful praise and thanksgiving. If your vision of heaven has been limited to clouds and harps and angels, it's time to expand that view with the truth found in this biblically based look at the afterlife.

Book excerpt: A fresh look at the earliest Christian movement reveals what made the new faith so compelling...and what we need to change today to make it so again. Once upon a time there was a version of the Christian faith that was practically irresistible. After all, what could be more so than the gospel that Jesus ushered in? Why, then, isn't it the same with Christianity today? Author and pastor Andy Stanley is deeply concerned with the present-day church and its future. He believes that many of the solutions to our issues can be found by investigating our roots. In Irresistible, Andy chronicles what made the early Jesus Movement so compelling, resilient, and irresistible by answering these questions: What did first-century Christians know that we don't—about God's Word, about their lives, about love? What did they do that we're not doing? What makes Christianity so resistible in today's culture? What needs to change in order to repeat the growth our faith had at its beginning? Many people who leave or disparage the faith cite reasons that have less to do with Jesus than with the conduct of his followers. It's time to hit pause and consider the faith modeled by our first-century brothers and sisters who had no official Bible, no status, and little chance of survival. It's time to embrace the version of faith that initiated—against all human odds—a chain of events resulting in the most significant and extensive cultural transformation the world has ever seen. This is a version of Christianity we must remember and re-embrace if we want to be salt and light in an increasingly savorless and dark world.

And when he starts courting the quiet, homespun Essie Lee Lane-and she accepts his marriage proposal-a few of the church folk decide to teach Essie what it really means to be a pastor's wife, and show her how little she knows about them. But as Theophilus gains prominence in his denomination, Essie evolves from a mousy parishioner into an independent and Godly woman. Now sporting an afro and driving her new purple Cadillac, Essie teaches the church folk what it really means to stand by your man-and your beliefs.

Filled with dread, Stacey embarks on a journey to discover what it means to be gay, whether it is possible to change, and how to reconcile her identity with her faith. Will it even be possible? In this young-adult illustrated memoir, Stacey Chomiak tells the true story of her teenage and young-adult years: of heartbreak, family conflict, trying to become ex-gay, wrestling with her faith, and finding love. Uncovering happiness and joy while surrounded by the loneliness of a world that actively excludes her seems insurmountable. Until she learns to love her full self. Then the possibility of being both gay and Christian seems not just possible, but the best answer of all.

Everyone's walk is not the same and it is not easy. The walk comes with a commitment and accountability to God. In some instances I found myself looking back at the things in my past and thought that life was better before I decided to walk with Christ. I quickly realized that is not the case. It is by the grace of God that I am still standing today, thankful that I am anchored in God and not some addiction to get me through the night-thankful that I am not walking around aimlessly but now have a purpose. I am filled with peace and joy that only God can give in the midst of a storm. It is a journey that promises to lead to an exciting and fulfilling life, but I have to keep walking.
