Book excerpt: "Terrific as a read-aloud... a wonderful message of tolerance, acceptance, and unconditional love."- Amy Shepherd, School Library Journal A laugh-out-loud story about a karate-chopping grandma that will have children wondering what exceptional, out-of-the-box and surprising talents their grandparents might have! When Ethan’s grandma suggests they take a zip line to school, Ethan realizes that his grandma is a little different. In fact, she’s a ninja! Ethan is soon the hit of the school when his grandma drops from the ceiling at show-and-tell, and teaches the kids karate moves and how to do back flips in slow motion. But having a ninja for a grandma is not everything Ethan hoped it would be. When his grandma deflates his team’s soccer ball, everyone is upset—including Ethan. Why can’t he just have a regular grandma? he wonders, until his new karate moves help him out during the championship game and everyone is happy that his grandma isn't quite ordinary.

Book excerpt: Ninja Grandma is a story about a boy named Glenn, who discovers there is more to a Grandparent than he realizes. My aim in this story is to help children to see that the meaning to be found here can be extrapolated to other people they know: that people whom they may perceive as boring (different, strange) can be quite unexpectedly interesting. The story begins with Glenn, the Hero, complaining about being forced by Mum (Libby), to stay over-night at his Gma s. He worries it will be boring as he sees there is nothing that interests him there. At first Glenn finds his Gma boring but soon discovers that she is quite unique and amazing. She is considerate of his wants and needs, and she turns out to be exciting. Glenn had no idea that his old Gma is a Ninja! Not just any old Ninja, but a Pink Ninja: one who battles with the bad Ninjas . She has been doing it for a long time and even her daughter, Glenn s Mum, does not know about her secret skills. Glenn knows that his Gma is different to his parents and himself, and is pleasantly surprised that she is aware of his needs and wants; she does not hurry him along. His Gma turns out to be very clever and very different to what he expected. Glenn learns, in an action packed story, that when people seem boring or different, we do not really know the full story on them. They can be very surprising in their abilities and then we find them extremely interesting; not so boring after all and fun to be with. In fact, life can be pretty exciting when we are around them! He also learns that we all have different life stories and that contributes to misunderstanding between people.

"This is Thunder Cake baking weather," calls Grandma, as she and her granddaughter hurry to gather the ingredients around the farm. A real Thunder Cake must reach the oven before the storm arrives. But the list of ingredients is long and not easy to find . . . and the storm is coming closer all the time! Reaching once again into her rich childhood experience, Patricia Polacco tells the memorable story of how her grandma--her Babushka--helped her overcome her fear of thunder when she was a little girl. Ms. Polacco's vivid memories of her grandmother's endearing answer to a child's fear, accompanied by her bright folk-art illustrations, turn a frightening thunderstorm into an adventure and ultimately . . . a celebration! Whether the first clap of thunder finds you buried under the bedcovers or happily anticipating the coming storm, Thunder Cake is a story that will bring new meaning and possibility to the excitement of a thunderstorm.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times bestselling, breakout novel! My name is Lizzie Brown, and demon slayer wasn't my first career choice. It didn’t even crack the list. I had a good thing going as a preschool teacher until my long-lost Granny blew into my life riding a Harley and raving about a demon on my toilet. Why did she have to be right? He was from the seventh layer of hell, and I killed his ass faster than you can say flush. Now Grandma insists I’m a demon slayer, destined to ride with her geriatric gang of biker witches. Do I even own a leather jacket? Crazier still, this new job comes with my own personal protector: Dimitri Kallinikos, a devastatingly hot shape-shifting griffin with beautiful eyes and a not-so-secret plan to seduce me. I could get on board with that. But I can’t get too involved because Dimitri needs me to take care of some hellish personal business for him, and I’m not about to let a guy I barely know take me anywhere near the underworld. At least not on the first date. But there’s a bigger danger brewing than either of us can imagine—and if I can’t stop the rise of Hell on Earth, no one can. “Fabulously Fun” —The Chicago Tribune

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From potty-training expert and social worker Jamie Glowacki, who’s already helped over half a million families successfully toilet train their preschoolers, comes a newly revised and updated guide that’s “straight-up, parent-tested, and funny to boot” (Amber Dusick, author of Parenting: Illustrated with Crappy Pictures). Worried about potty training? Let Jamie Glowacki, potty-training expert, show you how it’s done. Her six-step, proven process to get your toddler out of diapers and onto the toilet has already worked for tens of thousands of kids and their parents. Here’s the good news: your child is probably ready to be potty trained EARLIER than you think (ideally, between 20–30 months), and it can be done FASTER than you expect (most kids get the basics in a few days—but Jamie’s got you covered even if it takes a little longer). If you’ve ever said to yourself: -How do I know if my kid is ready? -Why won’t my child poop in the potty? -How do I avoid “potty power struggles”? -How can I get their daycare provider on board? -My kid was doing so well—why is he regressing? -And what about nighttime?! Oh Crap! Potty Training can solve all of these (and other) common issues. This isn’t theory, you’re not bribing with candy, and there are no gimmicks. This is real-world, from-the-trenches potty training information—all the questions and all the answers you need to do it once and be done with diapers for good.
