For the first time, a wider audience can explore its rare and exotic fruits in this fantastic coloring book. In the 1950s, a man named Adolf Grimal had a dream of establishing a rare tropical fruit nursery for rambutan, canistel, lychee, and more in the Florida Keys. But the bedrock of the islands cannot normally sustain such lush vegetation. It was only through Grimal's engineering know-how and persistence that hundreds of plants, like the nuaga sapote, perhaps one of the rarest on the planet, thrived. This hidden paradise became known as Grimal Grove. Now children and adults alike can learn about its unique catalog of exotic fruit in this coloring and drawing adventure.

Book Synopsis First Fruits of Freedom by : Janette Thomas Greenwood
Download or read book First Fruits of Freedom written by Janette Thomas Greenwood and published by Univ of North Carolina Press. This book was released on 2010-03-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A moving narrative that offers a rare glimpse into the lives of African American men, women, and children on the cusp of freedom, First Fruits of Freedom chronicles one of the first collective migrations of blacks from the South to the North during and after the Civil War. Janette Thomas Greenwood relates the history of a network forged between Worcester County, Massachusetts, and eastern North Carolina as a result of Worcester regiments taking control of northeastern North Carolina during the war. White soldiers from Worcester, a hotbed of abolitionism, protected refugee slaves, set up schools for them, and led them north at war's end. White patrons and a supportive black community helped many migrants fulfill their aspirations for complete emancipation and facilitated the arrival of additional family members and friends. Migrants established a small black community in Worcester with a distinctive southern flavor. But even in the North, white sympathy did not continue after the Civil War. Despite their many efforts, black Worcesterites were generally disappointed in their hopes for full-fledged citizenship, reflecting the larger national trajectory of Reconstruction and its aftermath.
Download or read book From Venus I Came written by Omnec Onec and published by DISCUS Publishing. This book was released on 2023-06-20 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Autobiography of an Extraterrestrial: A Guide to Self-Realization and Ascension by a Woman who came to Earth with a Mission of Love and BrotherhoodOmnec Onec came here to Earth from the Astral Plane of Planet Venus. She came as a child, in a physical body, in a spaceship. She arrived in 1955 and was raised by an Earth family. In her autobiography, Omnec explains the history, culture, and spiritual teachings of the Venusians, who have lived on the Astral Plane for a very long time and who are part of our ancestry. She tells us about her first years of life, which were spent on Venus, and about her Venusian Family. She explains why and how she came to Earth, and the mission that she was to fulfill. As a sister planet to Earth, Venus had already gone through a transformation to a higher consciousness and frequency, similar to what the Earth and many people are now experiencing. Venus at one time had a physical society on its surface as well, Omnec reveals, and in the course of its evolution ascended to a higher plane. The History of Venus, as described by Omnec, and the spirituality of the Venusians, are a Gift of Pure Love. By applying Omnecs teachings, we learn how Transformation into expanded consciousness and ascension into Higher realms can be mastered by people on Earth, in accordance with the Universal Laws of the Supreme Diety. This book is the authorized re-publication of the original version, as written by Omnec Onec in the late 1960s and as first published in the U.S.A in 1991 by Lt. Col. Ret. Wendelle C. Stevens.

Book excerpt: The effects of time and temperature on the postharvest quality of fruits and vegetables are visually depicted in the Color Atlas of Postharvest Quality of Fruits and Vegetables. Through hundreds of vibrant color photographs, this unique resource illustrates how the appearance (e.g., color, shape, defects and injuries) of fruits and vegetables changes throughout their postharvest life and how storage temperature greatly contributes to critical quality changes. The book’s extensive coverage describes 37 different fruits and vegetables from different groups that were stored at five specific temperatures and photographed daily after specified elapsed periods of time. Individual fruits and vegetables from the following groups are covered: subtropical and tropical fruits pome and stone fruits soft fruits and berries cucurbitaceae solanaceous and other fruit vegetables legumes and brassicas stem, leaf and other vegetable and alliums Information is provided about each individual fruit/vegetable such as characteristics, quality criteria and composition; recommendations for storage, transport and retail; and effects of temperature on the visual and compositional quality of each individual fruit or vegetable, associated with photos of the appearance at particular times and temperatures. This visual documentation shows how important is to handle fruits and vegetables at the right temperature and what happens if the recommendations are not followed. Also shown is the importance of the initial harvest quality of the fruit/vegetable and the expected shelf life as a function of quality at harvest, storage temperature and storage time. The Color Atlas of Postharvest Quality of Fruits and Vegetables will appeal to a diverse group of food industry professionals in the areas of processing, distribution, retail, quality control, packaging, temperature control (refrigerated facilities or equipment) and marketing as a reference tool and to establish marketing priority criteria.
