Book excerpt: What can you say about Moose? a lovable canine? A consummate professional? A bright star in the Hollywood universe? Yes, you could say all those things. Or you could just say that he was the little dog that could. The little dog that never took no for an answer. The little dog that never said, "I can't," but always, "why can't I?" The story of Moose is a classic rags-to-riches story of how an average pound-bound puppy barked, jumped, and mugged his way up the ladder of success to become a major superstar. Not since Lassie has America cared so much about one of its four-legged creatures. At least, that's what Moose would say. I would say that working with that dog has been a nightmare. I had to be at his beck and call, any time, day or night. You don't know what it's like to get a call at three o'clock in the morning because "someone" has something he wants to add to the Frasier chapter. Did he think I had no life of my own? Or that I slept by the telephone waiting for him to call? Yes, he did. Because, like most uber-stars, he thought the world revolved around him. From the moment I committed to working with him on this book, it's been nothing but Moose, Moose, Moose. But I have to admit he's had a fascinating life. To be plucked out of obscurity and thrust into the limelight may be the dream of every actor in the world, but in reality it's more of a challenge than most people realize. It's hard not toget caught up in all the glitter and hype of Hollywood and completelylose sight of what's really important--family and friends. As egomaniacal as Moose is, he has never forgotten where he came from or taken for granted the fans that got him where he is today. He's a complex guy--selfish and independent, demanding and feisty, impatient and intense, arrogant and stubborn, and strong-willed. But heis also loving, caring, thoughtful when he wants to be, charismatic, funny, charming, and above all loyal. In short, Moose is a Jack Russell terrier with an attitude. Is there any other kind?

Captured through Martin’s photographs, Moose tells the story of a dog’s life in East London, introduces us to his friends, favourite smells and thoughts on the modern world. It's really a story about enjoying the simple things and about chasing balls… even if you have lost your own. Through Moose’s first-hand account of the highs and lows of being a photographer’s dog, we discover a wagging tale about not giving up and being a man’s best friend.

His mishaps, mayhem, and madcap revelations prove that no matter how broken you might think you are, when you listen closely, you will hear God's voice—roaring like a lion. "There's a very short list of books that made me cry and laugh out loud—and that brought me closer to Christ. This is the second Torry Martin book to occupy that list." Dallas Jenkins, director of The Resurrection of Gavin Stone and The Shepherd

Book excerpt: "A great read for any of the kids in your life." --Flights of Fantasy "A really wonderful children's series that I wish I could have read myself when I was younger." --Only The Books For Me You can’t bring a rabbit camping. That’s what eleven-year-old Drew Montgomery’s grandparents say when his annoying little sister wants to bring their pet rabbit, Tiny, along on the trip. And Drew agrees. It's bad enough that he will miss the release of the coolest video game of the year while he's stuck in a cramped travel trailer for a week with his grandparents and sister. But Tiny is certain to cause trouble. Plus there are bears and eagles in the woods. And what if Tiny gets lost? But Libby smuggles the rabbit into the trailer anyway. Now Drew’s got to keep Tiny out of trouble. And that’s not easy to do with Libby always letting him out of the cage and a pair of rabbit-hating bullies ready to let their dog chomp him if he gets too close. Top it off with never-ending rain, bloodthirsty mosquitos, a broken toilet, stinky outhouses, angry squirrels, terrible food, and an eye-gougingly boring “schedule of activities.” Drew is about ready to take the rabbit and hitchhike home before disaster really strikes. preteen humorous middle grade novel ebook for boys and girls children's funny pet bunny rabbit chapter book for kids baby animal easter first pets rescue tales beach camping vacation summer holiday escape adventure humor story hilarious contemporary fiction for ages 9-12 series siblings family grandparents friendship values bullies trouble The Rabbit Ate My Series

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is the product of an interdisciplinary experiment--an artistic experiment and a psychological experiment--focused on dreams. Inspired by the prevalence of dream imagery and "dream logic" in surrealist art, the authors asked 100 art students to create digital images representing critical scenes from one of their dreams, then to create a surrealist collage from the digital images. The resulting collages tend to capture the surreality envisioned in actual works of surrealist art, as two collages included in the book illustrate. Inspired also by the psychological problem of studying other minds, the authors asked the 100 art students to describe their dream in writing, to interpret their dream, and to complete two personality measures: the Short Form of the Boundary Questionnaire and the Brief Symptom Inventory. The art students' scores on particular personality scales were found to be statistically associated with particular dream aspects, many of which are visually observable in the digitized dream images created by art students with particular personalities but are not verbally discernible in the dream descriptions written by those same students. The appendix contains, for each art student, the digitally imaged dream, the written description and written interpretation of the dream, and scores on the Boundary Questionnaire and on the depression, anxiety, hostility, and somatization scales of the Brief Symptom Inventory. The book concludes with a bibliography and an index to some of the visual elements in the 100 digitized dream images.

Book excerpt: Storytelling is a precious, vibrant tradition among the Native peoples of the Far North. Collected here for the first time are stories from the communities of interior Alaska and the Yukon Territory. These are the tales the people tell about themselves, their communities, and the world they inhabit. øOur Voices showcases twenty storytellers and writers who represent a full range of Athabaskan and related languages of Alaska and the Yukon. Both men and women recount popular tales of ancient times that describe the origins of social institutions and cultural values, as well as meaningful, sometimes intimate stories about their own lives and families or the history of their people. As representatives of an art transmitted through countless generations and now practiced with renewed interest and vigor by people reclaiming their cultural heritage, these narratives create a broad, brightly colored, richly detailed picture of the world of the Far North, present and past.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alaska in the 1960's was truly the Last Frontier. It had recently achieved statehood as the 49th U.S. state on January 3, 1959, about two years before I arrived with my husband, an Alaskan Aleut. The population at the time was mostly native Alaskans of different tribes such as Eskimo, Aleut, Tlingit, Alaskan Athabaskans and others. In the village where I lived the natives were part Aleut, Russian, Irish and Swede. The village in 1960 was a small, close-knit community of about 60 people. They were all related to each other in some way. When I lived there I was the only white person from the lower 48th in the village. These are entries from a diary I kept in a spiral-bound notebook. They are an account of my day-to-day life as a young married woman living in Alaska. I hope you see the hand of God working in my life, and the many times He was present, miraculously protecting me and delivering me from harm, both physically and spiritually. I promised my sister, before she died of cancer, that I would write this book about my life and adventures in Alaska.
