Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glasses and contacts are a pain. I tried to wear contact lenses while playing college and professional football and it just doesn't work. I was always getting sweat, dirt or even fingers in my eyes that just became annoying. After my football days, I decided to go on a quest. My mission was to find out if there were any ways to recover vision naturally, without corrective lenses. This book is a summary of what I found. In it I share how I was able to eliminate my glasses completely after ONE DAY! Granted, eventually I had to revisit some of these techniques but that was 2 years later! The majority of what I personally used was from the Bates Method. I am only a satisfied Bates student not a certified Bates practitioner. I wrote this book just to share the information so that it may help those in need. Here is some of what you will discover: Relaxation of body and eyes Breathing Exercise One: Deep Breathing Exercise Two: Lens Flexor Stretching Body Movement Exercise One: Sway Exercise Two: Long Swing Exercise Three: Cross-Crawl Energetic Yawning Blinking Palming Sunning Pinhole glasses Alternate Eye Movements Lazy Eights Central fixation Exercise 1: Tibetan Wheel Exercise 2: Snellen Chart Exercise 3: Domino Chart Exercise 4: Edging Exercise 5: Mandala Eye Oblique Stretch Near & Far Visualization Analytic seeing Chiropractic & Vision Nutrition This is a comprehensive collection from books, articles and research that I discovered on this journey to natural clear vision. Anyone who experiences eye strain, fatigue, or headaches when reading or trying to focus on the computer screen. Book Synopsis My Summer of Southern Discomfort by : Stephanie Gayle
Download or read book My Summer of Southern Discomfort written by Stephanie Gayle and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2009-10-13 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today is Monday. The calls do not come as before. Weeks elapse between them, and when I answer the phone there is no overlap of voices, only my mother's. She spends much of the conversation avoiding mention of the pink elephant trumpeting in the middle of the room. The pink elephant would be my defection to Georgia. When I telephoned with the news of my imminent relocation my father asked, "Georgia, as in the Republic of Georgia by the Black Sea, or Georgia as in the Peach State?" He hoped I meant the former because that Georgia promised unique opportunities to advance the democratic cause of justice. What could Georgia, former land of the Confederacy, offer? Convicting arsonists and thieves in Macon, Georgia, was never Harvard Law grad Natalie Goldberg's dream. The pay is abysmal, the work is exhausting, and the humidity is hell for a woman with curly hair. But when a steamy romance with her high-powered New York boss went bad, Natalie jumped at the first job offered, packed her bags, and headed south. Natalie's leftist Yankee background brands her a conspicuous outsider in this insular community. Her father, a famous civil rights lawyer, refuses to accept her career change—or talk to her. Her best friend begs her to come back home, and Natalie keeps thinking she sees her former lover everywhere. But Natalie's not completely alone. There are a garden-obsessed neighbor, a former beauty queen–turned–defense attorney, and a handsome colleague who has a nervous tic whenever she gets near. And then there's a capital case that has her eating antacids by the truckload. Yep, it's going to be one heckuva long, hot summer. . . .
Book Synopsis The Politics of Medical Encounters by : Howard Waitzkin
Download or read book The Politics of Medical Encounters written by Howard Waitzkin and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complaints that patients bring to their doctors often have roots in social issues that involve work, family life, gender roles and sexuality, aging, substance use; or other problems of nonmedical origin. In this book, physician/sociologist Howard Waitzkin examines interactions between patients and doctors to show how physicians' focus on physical complaints often fails to address patients' underlying concerns and also reinforces the societal problems that cause or aggravate these maladies. A progressive doctor-patient relationship, Waitzkin argues, fosters social change. Waitzkin provides a pathbreaking analysis of medical encounters, applying perspectives from structuralism, post-structuralism, and critical literary theory to transcripts of recorded conversations between doctors and patients. He demonstrates how doctors unintentionally maintain dominance in their dealings with patients, encourage conforming social behavior and attitudes, and marginalize patients' concerns with social problems. Waitzkin urges physicians to attend to the social as well as the medical problems that emerge from patients' narratives and suggests ways to restructure the manner in which patients and doctors communicate with each other. Physicians and patients, for example, should work together to demystify medical discourse, should refrain from medicalizing social problems through medications or reassurances that dull socially caused pain, and should be prepared to call on advocacy organizations seeking to change the social conditions that create personal distress. This book will influence and challenge physicians scholars, and students in the social sciences and humanities, as well as anyone concerned about the present problems and future direction of medicine.
