Sowohl in den Richtlinien, als auch in den Lehrplänen der Schule für Geistigbehinderte in Nordrhein-Westfalen ist der Musikunterricht nur ansatzweise verankert Literaturrecherche fand die Verfasserin dieser Arbeit ein breites Spektrum an Beiträgen zum Thema Autismus, Musiktherapie und Musikunterricht in Regelschulen, allerdings existieren nur wenige Schriften speziell zur musikalischen Förderung von Schülern mit autistischen Störungen. Nach den Empfehlungen derKKUULTUSMINISTERKONFERENZist „der weitaus größte Teil des Musikunterrichts in den Klassenunterricht einzubinden. [...] Daneben können Teilbereiche der musikalischen Erziehung in Lehrgängen durchgeführt werden“. Obwohl bekannt ist, dass Musik vielfältig wirken kann, wird dieses mögliche Potential in den Schulen für Geistigbehinderte nur rudimentär genutzt. An vielen Schulen werden musikalische Angebote gemacht, dennoch ist Musik bisher nicht als durchgängiges Angebot oder gar als Pflichtfach eingeführt worden. Musik wird derzeit selten als therapeutisches Mittel zur Verbesserung der individuellen Förderbereiche der Schüler mit einer so genannten geistigen Behinderung eingesetzt.

Der Autor gibt didaktische Vorschläge zur musikalischen Förderung autistischer Kinder und Jugendlicher. Zu Beginn dieser Arbeit möchte ich zwei Beobachtungen voranstellen, die mich auf die Untersuchung dieser Thematik brachten. Die erste Beobachtung konnte ich während meines Zivildienstes in einem Freiburger Kinderheim 1995 - 1996 machen. Den zweiten für diese Arbeit ausschlaggebenden Impuls bekam ich während der Erstellung eines diagnostischen Fördergutachtens im Rahmen der Ausbildung zum Sonderschullehrer. Die zwei Beobachtungen sollen einen Spannungsbogen von Beginn dieser Arbeit bis hin zu ihrem Ende darstellen. Alle beschriebenen Erkenntnisse sollen darin auf das eigentliche Ziel weisen, nämlich die Überlegungen der didaktischen Umsetzung einer musikalischen Förderung bezogen auf die beiden erwähnten autistischen Jungen.
