Book Synopsis Electronic Inspirations by : Jennifer Iverson
Download or read book Electronic Inspirations written by Jennifer Iverson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-11-28 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a decimated post-war West Germany, the electronic music studio at the WDR radio in Cologne was a beacon of hope. Jennifer Iverson's Electronic Inspirations: Technologies of the Cold War Musical Avant-Garde traces the reclamation and repurposing of wartime machines, spaces, and discourses into the new sounds of the mid-century studio. In the 1950s, when technologies were plentiful and the need for reconstruction was great, West Germany began to rebuild its cultural prestige via aesthetic and technical advances. The studio's composers, collaborating with scientists and technicians, coaxed music from sine-tone oscillators, noise generators, band-pass filters, and magnetic tape. Together, they applied core tenets from information theory and phonetics, reclaiming military communication technologies as well as fascist propaganda broadcasting spaces. The electronic studio nurtured a revolutionary synthesis of science, technology, politics, and aesthetics. Its esoteric sounds transformed mid-century music and continue to reverberate today. Electronic music--echoing both cultural anxiety and promise--is a quintessential Cold War innovation.
Book Synopsis Speech about Music by : Malik Sharif
Download or read book Speech about Music written by Malik Sharif and published by Hollitzer Wissenschaftsverlag. This book was released on 2019-07-04 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The US American musicologist, composer, philosopher, inventor, and political activist Charles Seeger (1886–1979) is a key figure in the development of twentieth-century musicology. "Speech about Music" is an in-depth study of his philosophical theory of musicology – his meta-musicology. Seeger developed this body of theory in numerous publications over the course of more than sixty years, yet he never realized his dream of creating a comprehensive "Principia Musicologica". Detailed historical reconstruction and comparative analysis of Seeger's meta-musicology makes "Speech about Music" an important contribution to the study of the history of musicology. By approaching Seeger's theory as an arsenal of ideas in the discussion of twenty-first century meta-musicological issues, the book is also a critical examination of the pertinence of Seeger's ideas.

Book Synopsis Word Art + Gesture Art = Tone Art by : Hanns-Werner Heister
Download or read book Word Art + Gesture Art = Tone Art written by Hanns-Werner Heister and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-06 with total page 719 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a truly interdisciplinary discussion on the relationship between the vocal and the instrumental in music and other arts and in everyday communication alike. Presenting an in-depth systematical and historical analysis of the evolution of word and gesture art, it gives extensive information on the anthropological, biological, and physiological influences and interactions in music and beyond. The book gives a unique definition of the genuinely vocal and instrumental from their generative deep structure: They derive from and are determined in their production by the duality of voice and hands, and in terms of product as the tone or ‘tonal’ on the one hand, and the percussive, that is noise plus rhythm, on the other. This book succeeds in bringing together perspectives from art, and from natural and social sciences, merging them to offer new explanations about the relationship between the vocal and instrumental, and eventually about the origins of music, arts, and language. It offers new perspectives on the intertwining between the vocal and the instrumental, specifically in the context of the expressions of human languages. At the same time, this book aims at clarifying and explaining the role of words and gestures in different contexts, such as society and communication, education, and arts.
Book Synopsis Die "Sprache der Musik" im Kontext der frühromantischen Musikästhetik by : Tilman Vogt
Download or read book Die "Sprache der Musik" im Kontext der frühromantischen Musikästhetik written by Tilman Vogt and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2007 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Focus on Evidence by : Heiner Böttger
Download or read book Focus on Evidence written by Heiner Böttger and published by Narr Francke Attempto Verlag. This book was released on 2016-06-13 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Meter As Rhythm by : Christopher Hasty
Download or read book Meter As Rhythm written by Christopher Hasty and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1997-04-10 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book Christopher Hasty presents a striking new theory of musical duration. Drawing on insights from modern "process" philosophy, he advances a fully temporal perspective in which meter is released from its mechanistic connotations and recognized as a concrete, visceral agent of musical expression. Part one of the book reviews oppositions of law and freedom, structure and process, determinacy and indeterminacy in the speculations of theorists from the eighteenth century to the present. Part two reinterprets these contrasts to form a highly original account of meter that engages diverse musical repertories and aesthetic issues.
