Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Music of Wild Flowers It has seemed good, in deference to the wishes of many friends, to gather together in book form a number of my botanical papers, contributed to various journals and magazines, which illustrate the interest and delight to be found in the pursuit of botany. Many of the articles in this collection appeared originally in the pages of The Outlook and of The Saturday Review, and my grateful thanks are offered to the editors for their kind permission to reproduce them. Similar acknowledgments are due to the editors of The Quarterly Review (in which the first article appeared, and which gives its title to the volume), to The Cornhill, The Spectator and The Treasury. I have ventured to include in this collection of botanical papers one on the death-place of Izaak Walton. It appeared in The Cornhill of last December, and aroused considerable interest. It will not, I hope, be thought inappropriate, when we call to mind the old fisherman's love of wild flowers. Download or read book Marjorie Blamey's Wild Flowers by Colour written by Marjorie Blamey and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2005 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an innovative and remarkably user-friendly guide to the identification of the flowers of Britain and northwestern Europe. By organising the species by their colour group first (and by family within that colour group), this guide enables those less familiar with flower taxonomy to quickly and easily find what they are looking for - a great improvement on the often-frustrating business of trawling through a conventionally-organised guide. The lovely artwork by acclaimed illustrator Marjorie Blamey, with a neat, focused and simple text, makes this book a joy to use.

Book excerpt: Weeds and Wild Flowers is a magical meeting of the poems of Alice Oswald and the etchings of Jessica Greenman. Within its pages everyday flora take on an extraordinary life, jostling tragically at times, at times comically, for a foothold in a busying world. Stunningly visualised and skilfully animated, this imaginative collaboration beckons us toward a landscape of botanical characters, and invites us to see ourselves among them.
