Book excerpt: A ski accident...a dead entrepreneur...his grieving wife...and his friends dividing the spoils. Lawson Adams flew off a cliff and plunged to his death on a ski trip in Whistler, a luxe resort nestled in the snowy peaks of British Columbia. The police called it an accident. Lawson was drinking heavily while entertaining clients the night before. But Lawson's wife, Jennelle, is convinced he was killed. After all, Lawson was an expert skier who glided effortlessly down double black diamond peaks after several beers. Private Investigator, Fati Rizvi, arrives on the scene to find Jennelle's finger pointed firmly in one direction - Lawson's business partners. As Fati gets to know the three young men, she uncovers jealousy and resentment roiling beneath the friendly facade. Lawson was the moneymaker. He took the biggest cut of profits. And treated his partners like employees. Did they conspire to get rid of him? But Jennell herself isn't above suspicion. While building his business, Lawson spent long days away from his family. Did she hate him for it? The answers hide behind the perfect veneer of friendships, family ties, and business relationships. A successful businessman, Lawson was surrounded by yes-people sporting fake smiles and hollow words of praise. Which one of the faces at the dinner table was plotting Lawson's demise?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historians have taken into account the Iranians presence in 17th century India in the context of their studies of the Mughal state and its apparatus. They do not, however, examine in depth the Iranians share in the formation of this apparatus. Many key questions pertaining to the migration of the Iranians in Mughal India remain unclear. This book examines the regions of Iran wherefrom the migrants came, the type of the people who migrated to India and the place where they finally settled. A major concern of the present work is to study and highlight the reasons and factors that determined the Iranians migration to India. Why did Iranians people migrate to India, why not to Central Asia? What were the factors which influenced and shaped the Mughal policy towards the Iranian nobility? Was it guided by the interests of the Mughal state? If yes, to what extent? Did religion exert any influence on the migration of Iranians into India, and or on their relationship with the Indian Mughal rulers? The book is an attempt to answer these questions. The study is based on a large number of sources, including Persian chronicles and tazkiras, both Iranian and Indian, and European accounts and travelogues.
