In February, 2001, police uncovered the decomposed remains of Christine Smith bagged like garbage in a Las Vegas storage unit. She’d been dead for years. Next to the makeshift tomb were books on witchcraft and Satanism. It didn’t take long for authorities to discover that the owner of the foul Canyon Gate Unit #317 was Christine’s own daughter, Brookey Lee West. Further investigation revealed something even more shocking—a one-woman crime spree that spanned two decades, stretched from Nevada to California, and may have counted among its victims Brookey’s own husband and brother....

Book excerpt: Las Vegas was the Mob's greatest venture and most spectacular success, and through 40 years of frenzy, murder, deceit, scams, and skimming, the FBI listened on phone taps and did virtually nothing to stop the fun. This is the truth about the Mob's control of the casinos in Vegas like you've never heard it before, from start to finish. Two of the nation's most powerful crime family bosses went to prison in the 1930's: Al Capone and Lucky Luciano. Frank Nitti took over the Chicago Outfit, while Frank Costello ran things for the Luciano Family. Both men were influenced by their bosses from prison, and both sent enough gangsters into the streets to influence loan sharking, extortion, union control, and drug sales. Bugsy Siegel worked for both groups, handling a string of murders and opening up gaming on the west coast, and that included Las Vegas, an oasis of sin in the middle of the desert - and it was legal. Most of it. The FBI watched as the Mob took control of casino after casino, killed off the competition, and stole enough money to bribe their way to respectability back home. By the 1950's, nearly every major crime family had a stake in a Las Vegas casino. Some did better than others. Casino owners watched-over their profits while competing crime families eyed each other's success like jealous lovers. Murder often followed.

Book excerpt: Private investigator Jack Morgan is on the hunt for a murderer in Las Vegas-and the murder ring he uncovers is unlike anything he's ever seen. Las Vegas is a city of contradictions: seedy and glamorous, secretive and wild, Vegas attracts people of all kinds-especially those with a secret to hide, or a life to leave behind. It's the perfect location for Lester Olsen's lucrative business. He gets to treat gorgeous, young women to five-star restaurants, splashy shows, and limo rides-and then he teaches them how to kill. Private Jack Morgan spends most of his time in Los Angeles, where his top investigation firm has its headquarters. But a hunt for two criminals leads him to the city of sin-and to a murder ring that is more seductively threatening than anything he's witnessed before. Chilling and marvelous, Private Vegas brings James Patterson's Private series to a sensational new level.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are reading this now, you have the book I have written in your hands. If you choose to read this book you will actually be reading two stories, both stories are true. Remember that old cliché that the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction? Well this just happens to be stranger than fiction. You can’t make this stuff up. Part one of my story is about Buster’s life. And it was a rough start, almost from day one, which was November 2°”, 1942. It was if he was angry from his very first day on this earth. Starting with his eviction from l grade to his unsuccessful one day attendance at a Catholic school, to his one year stay at Philadelphia Children’s Hospital for Rheumatic Fever, which left him with heart damage, I’d say that was a rough start, wouldn’t you? Some may have described Buster as an angry, troubled young boy. That couldn’t be farther from the truth I decided later on that Buster wasn’t angry at all. He was just always trying to prove that he could be anythkg that he wanted to be. The fact was that he knew what he wanted to be at a very young age, he knew how he planned to get there, and he was determined to achieve his goals at any cost and no one was going to stop him. I talk about Buster’s family and friends and how they may have influenced or had an impact on his life decisions, which ultimately led to his untimely death on October 8th, 1976. Part two of my book is the bizarre part of his story. If you don’t find part one interesting enough, I suggest that you skip to part two. I guarantee you’ll find it more interesting. There are several rumors as to why someone thought Buster had to die, we just don’t know which is true or if there could be another reason that we don’t know about. His young widowed wife Carol has spun many tales over the past years and truthfully we don’t know what is true and what is a product of her imagination. She has told us about who the killers are and how the killers themselves end up murdered. She tells us how crooked the Las Vegas detectives investigating the murder are and how they try to implicate her own family. This goes on for over 30 years and we still don’t know the truth. After reading this story, you can decide for yourself what is true and what is not, if you choose to. The problem is, unless you were there, you will have the same problem that I have to this day. I don’t know why he had to die and I don’t know who did it.
