Book Synopsis Spatial Analysis in Geomorphology by : Richard J. Chorley
Download or read book Spatial Analysis in Geomorphology written by Richard J. Chorley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-10 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1972. This book covers from ‘linear’ statistical methods, regression and variance analysis to multivariate methods to wider spatial analytic techniques, in which a clear association is maintained between quantitative data and the spatial coordinates which locate them. The purpose of this volume is to highlight this coherent area of scholarship under the general headings of spatial point systems, networks, continuous distributions, partitioning and simulation. Seventeen authors from Britain and the United States have been brought together to produce a book whose attention is on the body of spatial techniques necessary to enable the building of dynamic spatial models of landforms which formed the keystone of much geomorphic work in future years.
Book Synopsis Researching Geography by : Gopal Krishan
Download or read book Researching Geography written by Gopal Krishan and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2019-08-21 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a one-stop comprehensive guide to geographical inquiry. The volume: traces the step-by-step account of the whys and the hows of research methodology; introduces complexities of the geographical perspective, selection of research topic, choice of supervisor and formulation of research proposal; fine-tunes the sequence of data collection, analysis, representation and interpretation, and spells out the skill of writing research with geographic flavour; and reinforces concepts and ideas with examples so as not to leave any scope for ambiguity. The second edition updates on the variety of emerging perspectives in geographic research, use of spatial technologies in practice, sampling at different spatial levels and insightful interpretation of data. Lucid, engaging and accessible, this book will be an essential companion for researchers and students of geography, social sciences and South Asian studies.
Book Synopsis Statistical Methods and the Geographer by : Stanley Gregory
Download or read book Statistical Methods and the Geographer written by Stanley Gregory and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1978. For the non-mathematician, however, even the simpler introductory books on statistics often raise considerable problems. In this second edition First, some attention has been given to the problem of the transformation of data in order to reinforce the appreciation of the need for normally-distributed data for the use of so many techniques. Secondly, the use of probability paper, at least in simple terms, has been introduced to illustrate the ways in which the labour of probability assessments can be circumvented. Thirdly, radical changes have been made, plus considerable expansion added, to the theme of non-parametric testing, to provide a more systematic approach to what is a most important group of possible techniques for geographers. Fourthly, change and expansion are also reflected in the sections on correlation and regression, including some simple consideration of curvilinear relationships and the presentation of computational techniques more geared to the use of desk calculators rather than long-hand methods. Finally, the bibliography has also been expanded, to incorporate a wider range of books on techniques and a selection of research papers using such techniques in a geographical (or near-geographical) context.

Book Synopsis Unifying Geography by : David T. Herbert
Download or read book Unifying Geography written by David T. Herbert and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-08-05 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It can be argued that the differences in content and approach between physical and human geography, and also within its sub-disciplines, are often overemphasised. The result is that geography is often seen as a diverse and dynamic subject, but also as a disorganised and fragmenting one, without a focus. Unifying Geography focuses on the plural and competing versions of unity that characterise the discipline, which give it cohesion and differentiate it from related fields of knowledge. Each of the chapters is co-authored by both a leading physical and a human geographer. Themes identified include those of the traditional core as well as new and developing topics that are based on subject matter, concepts, methodology, theory, techniques and applications. Through its identification of unifying themes, the book will provide students with a meaningful framework through which to understand the nature of the geographical discipline. Unifying Geography will give the discipline renewed strength and direction, thus improving its status both within and outside geography.
