Book Synopsis Multiple Parton Interactions at the LHC by : Paolo Bartalini
Download or read book Multiple Parton Interactions at the LHC written by Paolo Bartalini and published by World Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-08 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many high-energy collider experiments (including the current Large Hadron Collider at CERN) involve the collision of hadrons. Hadrons are composite particles consisting of partons (quarks and gluons), and this means that in any hadron–hadron collision there will typically be multiple collisions of the constituents — i.e. multiple parton interactions (MPI). Understanding the nature of the MPI is important in terms of searching for new physics in the products of the scatters, and also in its own right to gain a greater understanding of hadron structure. This book aims at providing a pedagogical introduction and a comprehensive review of different research lines linked by an involvement of MPI phenomena. It is written by pioneers as well as young leading scientists, and reviews both experimental findings and theoretical developments, discussing also the remaining open issues.
Book Synopsis Multiple Parton Interaction Studies at DØ by :
Download or read book Multiple Parton Interaction Studies at DØ written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here, we present the results of studies of multiparton interactions done by the DØ collaboration using the Fermilab Tevatron at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. We also present three analyses, involving three distinct final signatures: (a) a photon with at least 3 jets ([gamma] + 3jets), (b) a photon with a bottom or charm quark tagged jet and at least 2 other jets ([gamma] + b/c + 2jets), and (c) two J/ [psi] mesons. The fraction of photon + jet events initiated by double parton scattering is about 20%, while the fraction for events in which two J/ [psi] mesons were produced is 30 ± 10. While the two measurements are statistically compatible, the difference might indicate differences in the quark and gluon distribution within a nucleon. Finally, this speculation originates from the fact that photon + jet events are created by collisions with quarks in the initial states, while J/ [psi] events are produced preferentially by a gluonic initial state.

Book Synopsis Top Quark Physics at Hadron Colliders by : Arnulf Quadt
Download or read book Top Quark Physics at Hadron Colliders written by Arnulf Quadt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-16 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This will be a required acquisition text for academic libraries. More than ten years after its discovery, still relatively little is known about the top quark, the heaviest known elementary particle. This extensive survey summarizes and reviews top-quark physics based on the precision measurements at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, as well as examining in detail the sensitivity of these experiments to new physics. Finally, the author provides an overview of top quark physics at the Large Hadron Collider.

Book Synopsis Searches for Supersymmetric Particles in Final States with Multiple Top and Bottom Quarks with the Atlas Detector by : Chiara Rizzi
Download or read book Searches for Supersymmetric Particles in Final States with Multiple Top and Bottom Quarks with the Atlas Detector written by Chiara Rizzi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-01 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This PhD thesis documents two of the highest-profile searches for supersymmetry performed at the ATLAS experiment using up to 80/fb of proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV delivered by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) during its Run 2 (2015-2018). The signals of interest feature a high multiplicity of jets originating from the hadronisation of b-quarks and large missing transverse momentum, which constitutes one of the most promising final state signatures for discovery of new phenomena at the LHC. The first search is focused on the strong production of a pair of gluinos, with each gluino decaying into a neutralino and a top-antitop-quark pair or a bottom-antibottom-quark pair. The second search targets the pair production of higgsinos, with each higgsino decaying into a gravitino and a Higgs boson, which in turn is required to decay into a bottom-antibottom-quark pair. Both searches employ state-of-the-art experimental techniques and analysis strategies at the LHC, resulting in some of the most restrictive bounds available to date on the masses of the gluino, neutralino, and higgsino in the context of the models explored.

Book Synopsis Studies of Multi-Parton Interactions in Photon+Jets Events at by :
Download or read book Studies of Multi-Parton Interactions in Photon+Jets Events at written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider sample of inclusive [gamma] + 3 jet events collected by the D0 experiment. The double parton fraction (f{sub DP}) and effective cross section [sigma]{sub eff}, a process-independent scale parameter related to the parton density inside the nucleon, are measured in three intervals of the second (ordered in p{sub T}) jet transverse momentum p{sub T}{sup jet2} within the 15 ≤ p{sub T}{sup jet2} ≤ 30 GeV range. Also we measured cross sections as a function of the angle in the plane transverse to the beam direction between the transverse momentum (p{sub T}) of the [gamma] + leading jet system and p{sub T} of the other jet for [gamma] + 2 jet, or p{sub T} sum of the two other jets for [gamma] + 3 jet events. The results are compared to different models of multiple parton interactions (MPI) in the PYTHIA and SHERPA Monte Carlo (MC) generators.
Book Synopsis Search for Supersymmetry in Hadronic Final States by : Hannsjörg Artur Weber
Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry in Hadronic Final States written by Hannsjörg Artur Weber and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The project reported here was a search for new super symmetric particles in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. It has produced some of the world’s best exclusion limits on such new particles. Furthermore, dedicated simulation studies and data analyses have also yielded essential input to the upgrade activities of the CMS collaboration, both for the Phase-1 pixel detector upgrade and for the R&D studies in pursuit of a Phase-2 end cap calorimeter upgrade.

It presents the basic experimental and theoretical problems arising when dealing with jets, and describing the solutions proposed in recent years.
Book Synopsis Study of Double Parton Scattering in Photon + 3 Jets Final State by : You-Hao Chang
Download or read book Study of Double Parton Scattering in Photon + 3 Jets Final State written by You-Hao Chang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-20 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book mainly focuses on the study of photon + 3 jets final state in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s = 7TeV, searching for patterns of two (or more) distinct hard scatterings in the same collision, i.e the so-called Double Parton Scattering (DPS). A new method by using Monte Carlo generators was performed and provides higher order corrections to the description of the Single Parton Scattering (SPS) background. Further it is investigated whether additional contributions from DPS can improve the agreement between the measured data and the Monte Carlo predictions. The current theoretical uncertainties related to the SPS background are found to be larger than expectation. At the same time a rich set of DPS-sensitive measurements is reported for possible further interpretation.
