This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for an improved, compact, wide-energy neutron detector for neutron monitoring and surveillance in nuclear facilities and weapons storage, where a possibility of fission excursion exists, led to development of a single detector that is sensitive to thermal neutrons, high-energy neutrons, and gamma radiation. Previously, separate detectors have been required to count these three different radiations separately. This development is a great advantage when experimental space is limited. 4 figs.

Book Synopsis High Energy Neutron Detector by : Clyde Edward Wiegand
Download or read book High Energy Neutron Detector written by Clyde Edward Wiegand and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is the purpose of this paper to describe a neutron detector suitable for monitoring a flux of neutrons whose energy is greater than about 50 Mev. Detection of the neutrons is accomplished by their ability to induce fission in heavy elements. Kelly and Wiegand studied the neutron fission of Bi, Pb, Ti, Hg, Au, and Pt at various neutron energies and the presently described counter is an application of this work.
Book Synopsis Neutron Detectors for Scattering Applications by : Yacouba Diawara
Download or read book Neutron Detectors for Scattering Applications written by Yacouba Diawara and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-08-04 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the most common neutron detectors used in neutron scattering facilities and all of those in use at Oak Ridge National Lab. It starts describing the facilities, instruments and the critical detector parameters needed by various instruments. Then the key components of the 3He-based linear position-sensitive detectors as well as on their electronics, which require particular attention to signal processing and noise reduction, are introduced. One chapter is dedicated to the 3He alternatives where scintillators play a critical role. It also covers emerging neutron detection technologies including semiconductors, vacuum-based devices and their associated readouts, which will be required in the future for high rate and high-resolution neutron detectors. The authors explain the logic behind the choice of materials as well as the various constraints that neutron detectors must respect to be useful. Some of these constraints, such as efficiency and gamma-ray sensitivity are common to all neutron counters while others, like timing resolution, dynamic range, and peak counting rate, depend on the applications. The book guides experts, the nuclear science community, and young scholars through the physical processes and the required electronics in a way that is accessible for those not professionally involved in designing detector’s components and electronic circuits.

Download or read book A Dose Monitoring Instrument for Neutrons from Thermal to 100 Mev written by Stephen A. McGuire and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A proposed neutron monitoring instruments consists of a Li6I crystal centered in 3-in.-, 10-in.-, and 18-in.- diameter polyethylene spheres. The polyethylene moderates neutrons so that they may be counted as the result of the (n, [alpha]) reaction in the crystal. Transport theory calculations of sphere counting efficiencies made use of 21 group corss sections from thermal energies to 192 MeV. Results show that the monitoring system is effective for particle accelerators where neutrons up to 100 MeV in energy would be found.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Radioactivity Analysis is written by experts in the measurement of radioactivity. The book describes the broad scope of analytical methods available and instructs the reader on how to select the proper technique. It is intended as a practical manual for research which requires the accurate measurement of radioactivity at all levels, from the low levels encountered in the environment to the high levels measured in radioisotope research. This book contains sample preparation procedures, recommendations on steps to follow, necessary calculations, computer controlled analysis, and high sample throughput techniques. Each chapter includes practical techniques for application to nuclear safety, nuclear safeguards, environmental analysis, weapons disarmament, and assays required for research in biomedicine and agriculture. The fundamentals of radioactivity properties, radionuclide decay, and methods of detection are included to provide the basis for a thorough understanding of the analytical procedures described in the book. Therefore, the Handbook can also be used as a teaching text. Includes sample preparation techniques for matrices such as soil, air, plant, water, animal tissue, and surface swipes Provides procedures and guidelines for the analysis of commonly encountered na
