Book excerpt: Shocked. Devastated. Angry. These are the feelings of twelve-year-old Shelly Morgan when she learns that her family will be moving from Illinois to New Jersey at the end of the summer. And no wonder. Shelly likes predictability and routine, and a long-distance move is anything but. The house Shelly has lived in her entire life will be a thing of the past. Leaving her three dear friends whom she sees every day will be heartbreaking. And the thought of a new, scary school where she knows no one-this situation is beyond miserable. Once in New Jersey, her mom tells an unhappy Shelly that every day will get just a little better. However, it seems that for the first time that Shelly can remember, Mrs. Morgan is wrong. Shelly faces numerous challenges-a disastrous family reunion, a sister who seems headed for trouble, and a lunch table of girls who make her feel uneasy and unwelcome. To escape her impossible situation, Shelly devises a plan to hang on to her old friends despite the distance. However, this only complicates her journey even further . . .

BOOK 5: FOREVER FAMILY "The emotions that each of these women experienced hit very close to home." ~ Smut Book Junkie Book Reviews CORABELLE Most days, I’m fine. I’m married to a hunk. Seriously. Book Synopsis Confessions of a Serial Songwriter by : Shelly Peiken
Download or read book Confessions of a Serial Songwriter written by Shelly Peiken and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Confessions of a Serial Songwriter is an amusing and poignant memoir about songwriter Shelly Peiken's journey from young girl falling under the spell of magical songs to working professional songwriter writing hits of her own. It's about growing up, the creative process – the highs and the lows, the conflicts that arise between motherhood and career success, the divas and schemers, but also the talented and remarkable people she's found along the way. It's filled with stories and step-by-step advice about the songwriting process, especially collaboration. And it's about the challenge of staying relevant in a rapidly changing and youth-driven world. As Shelly so eloquently states in Confessions of a Serial Songwriter: “If I had to come up with one X factor that I could cite as a characteristic most hit songs have in common (and this excludes hit songs that are put forth by an already well-oiled machine...that is, a recording artist who has so much notoriety and momentum that just about anything he or she releases, as long as it's 'pretty good ' will have a decent shot at succeeding), I would say it would be: A universal sentiment in a unique frame.” Peiken has tapped the universal sentiment again and again; her songs have been recorded by such artists as Christina Aguilera, Natalie Cole, Selena Gomez, Celine Dion, the Pretenders, and others. In Confessions of a Serial Songwriter, she pulls the curtain back on the music business from the perspective of a behind-the-scenes hit creator and shares invaluable insight into the craft of songwriting.
Download or read book The Fellowship written by Stevie Shaw and published by i2i Publishing. This book was released on 2023-04-30 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mysterious symmetry between a series of apparent murders and suicides committed simultaneously in different types of properties around Manchester presents a most perplexing puzzle for recently-promoted DI Shelly King. “The Fellowship” purports to be The New Testament Learning Fellowship, but we ultimately learn that NTLF actually stands for something completely different. Whilst the founder of NTLF aims for ‘societal improvement’, the solution is much more sinister. The author is a master of interweaving multiple plots and taunting the reader with snippets of clues which only become relevant much later in the book. In between fascinating descriptions of how the CID operate, we are treated to superbly written and graphic descriptions of such things as the agony of poisoning, lesbian lovemaking and bondage, the latter not all consensual. Although an overworked cliché, this book unquestionably is one which most readers will not be able to put down. The gripping and compulsive challenges the officers face never cease to surprise and excite. Most readers will probably develop at least some affection for the characters who toil under the relentless pressure faced by the police, and many may even shed a tear when one pays the ultimate price.
Book Synopsis The Ghost Collector by : Allison Mills
Download or read book The Ghost Collector written by Allison Mills and published by Annick Press. This book was released on 2019-09-10 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ghosts aren’t meant to stick around forever... Shelly and her grandmother catch ghosts. In their hair. Just like all the women in their family, they can see souls who haven’t transitioned yet; it’s their job to help the ghosts along their journey. When Shelly’s mom dies suddenly, Shelly’s relationship to ghosts—and death—changes. Instead of helping spirits move on, Shelly starts hoarding them. But no matter how many ghost cats, dogs, or people she hides in her room, Shelly can’t ignore the one ghost that’s missing. Why hasn’t her mom’s ghost come home yet? Rooted in a Cree worldview and inspired by stories about the author’s great-grandmother’s life, The Ghost Collector delves into questions of grief and loss, and introduces an exciting new voice in tween fiction that will appeal to fans of Kate DiCamillo’s Louisiana’s Way Home and Patrick Ness’s A Monster Calls.
