Book excerpt: How to Build a Motorcycle leads you through all the key stages - from initially finding the right project for your skill level, to sourcing a base bike and safely taking on some full-on bike-building tasks. With clear, easy-to-follow instructions, proper advice and specially commissioned step-by-step illustrations throughout it is an ideal aid to getting your hands oily. Written by Gary Inman, the co-founder of independent motorcycle magazine Sideburn, and illustrated by Adi Gilbert who is best known for his bicycle and motorcycle drawings whose clients include Harley-Davidson, Guy Martin, Wired magazine, Sideburn magazine and Nike, this is a must-have for all motorcycle lovers. Read this book, even dip in and out where relevant. If it makes sense, schedule some time, clear your mind, pull on some old clothes, grab your toolbox and get going. The chapters in How to Build a Motorcycle will tell you how to complete a huge variety of tasks that will allow even the greenest of novices to get their hands dirty and start modifying with purpose. If you belong to this camp, start with some of the low-input, high-reward jobs, such as fitting bars, swapping the rear shocks or wiring in a new tail light. Even though these require relatively little work, they'll transform the look of your bike, and completing them will fill you with confidence to undertake the more difficult jobs, such as fitting more modern front forks or even making your own frame. The book comes with a glossy 32-page section on finished bikes and is a reference and the perfect gift for all fans, from those who merely like to tinker, to riders taking on a full build.

Book excerpt: The New Motorcycle Riders handbook "Motorcycling for Beginners" is an easy to use guide for anyone looking to learn to ride a motorcycle or to brush up on their motorcycling skills. It covers the basic concepts needed to ride a motorcycle.in an easy to read format. With so much advice and opinions out there it can be overwhelming for new riders to decipher what they should be learning and concentrating on first. This beginner’s handbook is an easy to use guide for anyone looking to learn how to ride motorcycles the right way, from the beginning. With over forty years of motorcycling experience I have by far seen my fair share of mistakes that motorcyclists, including myself, have made. One of the biggest mistakes I see is people trying to learn too fast or trying to learn things that they don’t need to know in their early stages of riding. People often forget to begin at the beginning. A child doesn’t walk first they crawl. The same thing goes for speech. A child starts out making sounds before they begin to formulate words. A lot of this is sometimes caused by people who are trying to be helpful by giving advice but are just confusing and scaring new riders unnecessarily. Make no mistake, motorcycling has its dangers just like anything else in life, but continual training will help you to deal with whatever may come your way. I created New Motorcycle Riders as an alternate source of learning for motorcyclists to help them learn the things that are not taught in classrooms. Motorcycle courses are designed to teach you the basics, but your real-world experience is going to come when you hit the streets. Motorcycling is a wonderful feeling so much that I couldn’t imagine not doing it. When I started riding things were very different. There was no formal training and what you learned was limited to those who you were around. Some of the terms that are used today weren’t used back then even though many of the same principles they speak of today were implemented then. Modern technology has made things that were impossible yesterday very possible today. Not only have motorcycles progressed, but motorcycle riders have too. New Motorcycle Riders bridges the gap between riders from all over the world, to help riders share information and experiences with others that could be beneficial to them. We have one of the most diverse group of motorcyclists anywhere. After reading this handbook I am certain you will recognize the value of the material and will have a clearer picture of how to properly train to be a motorcycle rider. Enjoy the book and safe travels.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six years and 75,000 miles ago I bought a Harley and re-entered the world of motorcycles at the age of 55, and I have been having a blast ever since! I also have made every beginner mistake in the book. Wait a minute, what book? There is no beginner mistake book. Well, there is now and I wish I would have had it six years go.I wrote this book so you can cash in on my experiences and save yourself time, money and hassle. Crammed with beginner mistakes, tips, how-to¿s and resources, it has what every new or re-entry rider needs to know about riding and gear. It¿s got all of the stuff they didn¿t tell you about selecting a starter bike, minimizing risk, riding safety, using the `friction zone¿, going where you look, buying the right gear the first time and many more basic rider topics. It is easy to read, well organized and laced with a little off-beat humor to make it fun.The single best thing I did when I started riding was to go through the MSF Basic Rider course. The next best thing I could have done would have been buying this book. Reading this book can minimize your learning curve and enable you to start really enjoying your motorcycle today.

Book excerpt: Riding motorcycles is fun, but author Ken Condon maintains that there is a state of consciousness to be achieved beyond the simple pleasure of riding down the road. Riding in the Zone helps riders find that state of being. It's the experience of being physically and mentally present in the moment, where every sense is sharply attuned to the ride. Your mind becomes silent to the chatter of daily life, and everyday problems seem to dissolve. You feel a deeper appreciation for life. Your body responds to this state of being with precise, fluid movements, you feel in balance, your muscles are relaxed, and it seems as though every input you make is an expression of mastery. This is "the Zone." Condon identifies all of the factors that affect entering the Zone and addresses each one individually, from the development of awareness and mental skills to mastering physical control of the motorcycle. At the end of each chapter are drills designed to transform the book's ideas into solid, practical riding skills. Riding in the Zone takes riders to the next level in their skill set.
