Book Synopsis Original Morris Minor by : Ray Newell
Download or read book Original Morris Minor written by Ray Newell and published by Herridge & Sons Limited. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Original Morris Minor is the essential companion to these delightful cars. Its aim is to reveal, in words and color photographs, how the many versions of the Minor – from early ‘low-headlamp’ 918cc saloon to late 1098cc traveler – altered in detail through the course of production. An amazing number of specification changes, large and small, occurred over the years. The completely authentic specification which the most discerning enthusiasts now demand can be elusive because so many Minors have been altered over the years, often by impecunious owners trying simply to keep aging cars on the road for minimum cost. But help is at hand in Original Morris Minor for all owners, restorers and enthusiasts who want a bible on originality. Drawing from factory production records, parts lists and catalogs, as well as the accumulated knowledge of respected restorers and dedicated enthusiasts, this book provides the most exhaustive production survey of the Morris Minor ever published. Accompanying the authoritative text are over 250 specially commissioned color photographs showing every permutation of Morris Minor specification in remarkable detail.
Book Synopsis Morris Minor Traveller by : Ray Newell
Download or read book Morris Minor Traveller written by Ray Newell and published by Herridge & Sons Limited. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than half a century the Morris Minor Traveller has been a familiar feature of rural and small-town Britain. Unpretentious, uncomplaining, half-timbered in an age of sleek pressed steel, Travellers were to be seen everywhere, laden with schoolchildren, dogs, jumble for the jumble sale, buzzing bravely along at no great speed. Ray Newell is the unchallenged authority on Minor matters, and here he begins by providing in-depth descriptions of the 803cc, 948cc and 1098cc Traveller models, with details of production and specification changes. Next he looks at special purpose versions as used by, among others, the armed forces, the coastguard and even the Barbados police. Then comes a section on one-off Travellers including an intriguing three-door conversion first built in the early 1950s. Countless Traveller owners have had to face the need for replacement of the timber framework of the body, a major undertaking, and an outstanding feature of this book is the chapter by Steve Forman devoted to this task, which is set out in step-by-step format with accompanying photographs. The final section of the book deals with upgrades available to bring the Minor’s performance, braking and suspension up to more modern standards. These include engine replacements, five-speed gearboxes and disc brakes as well as less radical modifications. With some 300 colour and black-and-white illustrations accompanying the text, this is truly the owner’s complete companion to the Minor Traveller.

Download or read book Forward Drive written by Jim Motavalli and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive account of the past, present and future of the automobile examines the key trends, key technologies and key players involved in the race to develop clean, environmentally friendly vehicles that are affordable and that do not compromise on safety or design. Undertaking a rigorous interrogation of our global dependency on oil, the author demonstrates just how unwise and unnecessary this is in light of current developments such as the fuel cell revolution and the increasing viability of hybrid cars, which use both petrol and electricity - innovations that could signal a new era of clean, sustainable energy. The arguments put forward draw on support from an eclectic range of sources - including industry insiders, scientists, economists and environmentalists - to make for an enlightening read.

Book excerpt: In their twilight years two eighty-something sisters, Esther and Minnie, are coaxed from their easy chairs and their comfort zone of carpet slippers, crochet hooks, jigsaws and jumble sales to fulfill the dying wish of a dear friend. The sisters go an to undertake a road trip of sorts in Esther's beloved classic Trafalgar-blue 1965 Morris Traveller car, affectionately known as 'Vivien.' The trip however is no minor errand to return late library books: theirs turns out to be an epic undertaking of some seven thousand miles from London's Whitechapel to Raipur, deep in the Indian subcontinent, passing through no less than ten countries along the way, including Poland, Russia, China and Tibet. Esther and Minnie's saga of course does not go without the occasional hitch, but the sister's eternal love for one another, and their quintessential innocence and innate kindness, stand them in good stead when they are faced with seemingly insurmountable odds.

Download or read book American Vandal written by Roy Morris Jr. and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-10 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a man who liked being called the American, Mark Twain spent a surprising amount of time outside the continental United States. Biographer Roy Morris, Jr., focuses on the dozen years Twain spent overseas and on the popular travel books—The Innocents Abroad, A Tramp Abroad, and Following the Equator—he wrote about his adventures. Unintimidated by Old World sophistication and unafraid to travel to less developed parts of the globe, Twain encouraged American readers to follow him around the world at the dawn of mass tourism, when advances in transportation made leisure travel possible for an emerging middle class. In so doing, he helped lead Americans into the twentieth century and guided them toward more cosmopolitan views. In his first book, The Innocents Abroad (1869), Twain introduced readers to the “American Vandal,” a brash, unapologetic visitor to foreign lands, unimpressed with the local ambiance but eager to appropriate any souvenir that could be carried off. He adopted this persona throughout his career, even after he grew into an international celebrity who dined with the German Kaiser, traded quips with the king of England, gossiped with the Austrian emperor, and negotiated with the president of Transvaal for the release of war prisoners. American Vandal presents an unfamiliar Twain: not the bred-in-the-bone Midwesterner we associate with Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer but a global citizen whose exposure to other peoples and places influenced his evolving positions on race, war, and imperialism, as both he and America emerged on the world stage.

Book Synopsis The Life of a Morris Minor Named Moggy by : Gerald Griffiths
Download or read book The Life of a Morris Minor Named Moggy written by Gerald Griffiths and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of a Morris Minor 1000 Saloon. The date of its first registration was April 24, 1964, and its engine cylinder capacity is 1,098. It is now classed as a historical vehicle. The first owner was a Mr. Ernest Griffiths or Ernie as he was called, who was my dad's brother. Sadly, Ernie died on March 28, 1982, and Moggy was left in his will to his son, John Griffiths. Sadly, John Griffiths died on October 19, 2005, and his wife, Teresa Griffiths, left it in my care, giving it to me after John's funeral. This was on a promise that I would look after it and keep it in the family. John and his family nicknamed it Moggy, and from 1982 till 2005, John and his wife used this car constantly. John's two girls, Ellen and Leanne, cherished this car, knowing it was their father and grandfather's car. Because of this, I really felt that I had a strong responsibility to look after it. I will say no more as Moggy wishes to tell the story of his life himself.
