This book was released on 2018-03-30T00:00:00-04:00 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Bonne morpho-aventure !

Book Synopsis Because of You: Understanding Second-Person Storytelling by : Evgenia Iliopoulou
Download or read book Because of You: Understanding Second-Person Storytelling written by Evgenia Iliopoulou and published by transcript Verlag. This book was released on 2019-03-31 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Second-person storytelling is a continually present and diverse technique in the history of literature that appears only once in the oeuvre of an author. Based on key narratives of the post-war period, Evgenia Iliopoulou approaches the phenomenon in an inductive way, starting out from the essentials of grammar and rhetoric, and aims to improve the general understanding of second-person narrative within literature. In its various forms and typologies, the second person amplifies and expands the limits of representation, thus remaining a narrative enigma: a small narrative gesture - with major narrative impact.
Book Synopsis Strange Voices in Narrative Fiction by : Per Krogh Hansen
Download or read book Strange Voices in Narrative Fiction written by Per Krogh Hansen and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-10-27 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its beginnings narratology has incorporated a communicative model of literary narratives, considering these as simulations of natural, oral acts of communication. This approach, however, has had some problems with accounting for the strangeness and anomalies of modern and postmodern narratives. As many skeptics have shown, not even classical realism conforms to the standard set by oral or ‘natural’ storytelling. Thus, an urge to confront narratology with the difficult task of reconsidering a most basic premise in its theoretical and analytical endeavors has, for some time, been undeniable. During the 2000s, Nordic narratologists have been among the most active and insistent critics of the communicative model. They share a marked skepticism towards the idea of using ‘natural’ narratives as a model for understanding and interpreting all kinds of narratives, and for all of them, the distinction of fiction is of vital importance. This anthology presents a collection of new articles that deal with strange narratives, narratives of the strange, or, more generally, with the strangeness of fiction, and even with some strange aspects of narratology.

Book Synopsis Moon Deluxe by : Frederick Barthelme
Download or read book Moon Deluxe written by Frederick Barthelme and published by Simon & Schuster. This book was released on 1983 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frederick Barthelme's wry and wonderful stories have given us a stunning, cautionary, funny, sometimes bleak, and often transcendent portrait of contemporary life in the sprawl of suburban America. Barthelme made his remarkable debut with these tender and affectionate stories, most of which were originally published in The New Yorker. Moon Deluxe received the high praise of such writers as John Barth, Raymond Carver, Ann Beattie, and Margaret Atwood, and earned Barthelme a permanent place in the pantheon of contemporary American writers. In these stories he delicately probes the peculiar corners of contemporary culture, capturing the fast and often touching ways we relate to each other and to the time in which we live.
Download or read book Talk Fiction written by Irene Kacandes and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everywhere you turn today, someone (or something) is talking to you?the television, the radio, cell phones, your computer. If you think some of the novels and stories you read are talking to you too, you're not alone, and you're not mistaken. In this innovative, multidisciplinary work, Irene Kacandes reads contemporary fiction as a form of conversation and as part of the larger conversation that is modern culture. ø Within a framework of talk as interaction, Kacandes considers texts that can be classified as "statements," that is, texts that wholly or in part ask for their readers to react? to talk back?to them in certain ways. The works she addresses?from writers as varied as Harriet O. Wilson, Margaret Atwood, William Faulkner, Virginia Woolf, Graham Swift, G_nter Grass, John Barth, Julio Cort¾zar, and Italo Calvino?conduct their interactions in certain modes to accomplish different sorts of cultural work: storytelling, testimony, apostrophe, and interactivity. By focusing on texts within these groupings, Kacandes is able to relate the different modes of talk fiction to extraliterary cultural developments in our oral age?and to show how such interactions, however contrary to the dominant twentieth-century view of literature as art for art's sake, help to keep literature alive and speaking to us.

Download or read book Telling Stories written by Steven Cohan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-08 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 2002. We are living in a time of rapid and radical social change. Modes and categories inherited from the past no longer seem to fit the reality experienced by a new generation. New Accents is intended as a positive response to the initiative offered by such a situation. Each volume in the series will seek to encourage rather than resist the process of change; to stretch rather than reinforce the boundaries that currently define literature and its academic study. This book introduces a theoretical framework for studying narrative fiction. A narrative recounts a story, a series of events in a temporal sequence.
