Book excerpt: More Pars Power Edition, from the best selling golf author of the Golf Survival Guide series, is dedicated to helping you get more distance and accuracy off the tee and from the fairway. Hitting the ball farther means more greens in regulation and more parsl Through this guided how-to book, you'll learn the whys, whats and hows. So, let's get to it! CHRISTINA RICCI IS LPGA CLASS A, TPI GOLF LEVEL 3, TPI POWER LEVEL 2 and TPI FITNESS LEVEL 2 CERTIFIED, CROSSFIT LEVEL 2 AND A BEST-SELLING GOLF AUTHOR. Christina took up the game in 2000 and dropped to a 5 handicap in five short years. She published her first book, A Girls On-Course Survival Guide to Golf in 2008 and never looked back. She has authored five books and 20 pocket guides, sells branded golf accessories, hosts national golf camps, and teaches locally at the beautiful Atkinson Resort & Country Club located in Atkinson New Hampshire, 45 minutes north of Boston. Shes been featured on the cover of GolfTips magazine and her popular golf tips are featured on the Golf Channel, her YouTube Channel (youtube.com/c/morepars), and online portals such as WomensGolf.com, Golfforher.com and LPGA Womens Network. This guide is your go-to for understanding, measuring and training for more distance off the tee and from the fairway. It is divided into three core sections: POWER BODY; POWER TECHNIQUE; POWER EQUIPMENT. Within each section youll first learn the whys. It is important to understand the general principles and concepts before applying them to your game. Knowledge is power. It is my opinion that golf handicaps have not changed because of this. Students do as their instructors ask or watch YouTube videos. But oftentimes, they do not truly understand the core principles of the golf swing in relation to their body, equipment and technique. In addition, I see far too many players misdiagnosing themselves, which sends them down the wrong path. Instead, lets truly educate you on the essentials of ball striking so you can see real change in your game. Youll measure your current body, equipment and technique, so you have an accurate starting point. From there, youll apply your knowledge with training. This Guide is not a replacement for your instructor. I highly recommend working with a coach or training through the MorePars.com platform. The best players in the world have swing, fitness and/or medical coaches. As recreational players, you too can train like the pros and experience significant gains off the tee and from the fairway. Are you ready for more pars and more power? Lets get to it!

Book excerpt: “Through this wonderful book, frustrated golfers can learn to swing like Moe [Norman] and improve their games.” —Anthony Robbins, #1 New York Times–bestselling author The mysterious and reclusive genius Moe Norman is acknowledged as the best ball-striker in the history of golf by many of the game’s greats. The Single Plane Golf Swing: Play Better Golf the Moe Norman Way reveals the secrets of the swing that enabled him to hit the ball solidly with unerring accuracy and consistency—every time. Norman’s simple, efficient, and easily understood Single Plane Swing has improved the games of thousands of golfers. Golf professional Todd Graves, known as “Little Moe” and regarded as the world authority on Norman’s swing, comprehensively teaches readers the mechanics, drills, and feelings of the Single Plane Swing that Moe called “The Feeling of Greatness.” Graves shares Norman’s brilliant insights and liberating approach to the game and demonstrates why the conventional “tour” swing is too complex and frustrating for the majority of amateurs. Illustrated with more than 300 photographs and written with Tim O’Connor, Norman’s biographer, the book also engagingly tells Norman’s bittersweet life story and explores the teacher-student bond forged between Norman and his protégé Graves. “One of golf’s greatest untold stories, Moe Norman’s life illustrated a simple and powerful truth: greatness is built from practicing the right swing in the right way. In this book, Todd Graves has given us a blueprint for that swing, for those practice habits, and most of all for a process that builds success.” —Dan Coyle, New York Times-bestselling author of The Culture Code

Book excerpt: This book introduces readers to genetic algorithms (GAs) with an emphasis on making the concepts, algorithms, and applications discussed as easy to understand as possible. Further, it avoids a great deal of formalisms and thus opens the subject to a broader audience in comparison to manuscripts overloaded by notations and equations. The book is divided into three parts, the first of which provides an introduction to GAs, starting with basic concepts like evolutionary operators and continuing with an overview of strategies for tuning and controlling parameters. In turn, the second part focuses on solution space variants like multimodal, constrained, and multi-objective solution spaces. Lastly, the third part briefly introduces theoretical tools for GAs, the intersections and hybridizations with machine learning, and highlights selected promising applications.

Most golfers who want to improve their skills go to the range and work painstakingly on their swings, not realizing it's often their performance state on the course that needs work, not their technique. Simple things such as awareness of your balance, tension, and tempo, as well as the ability to control mental, emotional, and social variables you encounter while playing can quickly take your game to a new performance level. Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott, founders of VISION54's ... golf program, are here to help"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parkinson's disease is a neurological disorder with cardinal motor signs of resting tremor, bradykinesia and lead-pipe rigidity. In addition, many patients display non-motor symptoms, including a diminished sensation of smell, gastrointestinal problems, various disorders of sleep and some cognitive impairment. These clinical features - particularly the motor signs - manifest after a progressive death of many dopaminergic neurones in the brain. Although currently available, conventional therapies can reduce the signs of the disease, the progression of this neuronal death has proved difficult to slow or stop, and the condition is relentlessly progressive. Hence, there is a real need to develop a treatment that is neuroprotective, one that slows the pathology of the disease effectively. At present, there are several neuroprotective therapies in the experimental pipeline, but these are for the patients of tomorrow. This book focuses on two therapies that are readily available for the patients of today. They involve the use of exercise and light (i.e. photobiomodulation, the use of red to infrared light therapy (λ=600-1070nm) on body tissues). The two therapies are tied together in several ways. First, in animal models of Parkinson's disease, they each have been shown to offer the key feature of neuroprotection, stimulating a series of built-in protective mechanisms within the neurones, that helps their survival, to self-protect and/or self-repair. There are also some promising indications of neuroprotection and many beneficial outcomes in parkinsonian patients. Further, both exercise and light therapies are similar in that they are non-invasive and safe to use, with no known adverse side-effects, making their combination with the conventional therapies, such as dopamine replacement drug therapy and deep brain stimulation, all the more feasible. Given the heterogeneity of Parkinson's disease in humans, tackling the condition from a range of different angles - with a number of different therapies - would only serve to enhance the positive outcomes. This book considers the use of exercise and light therapies, proposing that they have the potential to make a powerful "dynamic duo", offering a most effective neuroprotective treatment option to patients.

Based on fundamental sprocket mechanics, the ESPY is an acronym for three simple Ergonomic movements, consisting of the Synch, Protract, and Yaw elements. The E is the ergonomics used to set up each S.P.Y. element of the golf swing. By learning what these mechanics are and how they create power, speed, and control, you'll be able to: control backspin, loft, and trajectory; eliminate the negative effects of downtime and nerves; overcome common obstacles to develop a consistent swing

Every equestrian wants to know: what is the difference between the horse that “dances” when you are on him, and the one that doesn’t? According to Visconte Simon Cocozza, Trainer and Examiner for the La Fédération Française d'Equitation (FFE), it all comes down to the horse’s posture. The horse’s ability to use the powerful mechanisms already built into his body relies not upon the strength we can see on the outside but the strength on the inside. This invisible and complex arrangement of internal “core” muscles control the horse’s posture, suppleness, and agility. Their good condition is the key to the dance. Equine core muscles are very difficult to isolate with the traditional training techniques common to horse sports. However, by examining what we do with the human body when faced with a weak core, we can find new methods for conditioning these areas of the equine body. Cocozza has taken principles of the human practice of yoga and used them to develop novel ways of reaching deep within the horse’s body and: Gently “unlock” areas that may be a little “rusty.” Improve core fitness. And even relieve pain related to conditions such as kissing spine. In this highly illustrated book, he provides step-by-step instruction explaining easy mounted exercises that enhance the horse’s posture, and boost his confidence in his body and movement, making him easier to ride, and ultimately, the dance partner you’ve always imagined.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The remarkable true story of a lone genius whose quest to unlock the science behind the perfect swing changed golf forever In 1939, Homer Kelley played golf for the first time and scored 116. Frustrated, he did not play again for six months; when he did he carded a 77. Determined to understand why he was able to shave nearly 40 strokes off his score, Kelley spent three decades of trial and error to unlock the answer and to recapture that one wonderful day when golf was easy and enjoyable. In 1969, Kelley self- published his findings in The Golfing Machine: The Computer Age Approach to Golfing Perfection. The bestselling instruction books of the day required golfers to conform their swings to the author's ideals, but Homer Kelley configured swings to fit every golfer. He found an enthusiastic disciple in a Seattle teaching pro named Ben Doyle, who in turn found an eager student in 13-year-old prodigy Bobby Clampett. Clampett's initial success in amateur golf shined a bright spotlight on Homer Kelley and The Golfing Machine, but when the young star suffered a painfully public collapse and faltered as a pro, critics were quick to blast Kelley and his complex and controversial ideas. With exclusive access to Homer Kelley's archives, author Scott Gummer paints a fascinating picture of the man behind the machine, the ultimate outsider who changed the game once and for all of us.
