Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using stunning computer animation blended with real-life in-field footage, this educational video impressively illustrates the life cycle of the apple scab fungus Venturia inaequalis. Students and extension audiences will gain a clear understanding of the development and epidemiological spread of this disease and how it can be controlled using integrated pest management (IPM) practices. Apple Scab Venturia inaequalis is an authoritative presentation of a disease that is found in most of the world's apple-growing regions. This video is dedicated to Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Günter Martin Hoffmann (1923-2013), one of the fathers of Integrated Pest Management. He was a full professor of plant pathology at the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan, Germany. His research and teaching focused on the epidemiology of fungal pathogens of major crops and their integrated control by developing several IPM prognosis models. Professor Hoffmann was an enthusiastic apple grower.PowerPoint Lets You Add Specific Video Segments to Your Lectures and Talks from the Video Using: Video TrimFull length videos can be trimmed for use in PowerPoint presentations. Book Synopsis Biology and Integrated Management of Turfgrass Diseases by : Gary W. Beehag
Download or read book Biology and Integrated Management of Turfgrass Diseases written by Gary W. Beehag and published by CABI. This book was released on 2024-02-21 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cultivated turfgrass is an assemblage of mown, perennial grasses or prostrate-growing forb plants and a suite of microbes all competing with each other in a common environment. This book approaches turfgrass diseases from an ecological perspective and explains with examples how wild plants and microbes have co-evolved. It addresses the identification, biology and integrated management of both common turfgrass diseases and newly emergent diseases. It includes the common and lesser-known turfgrass species, their surrounding environment and the range of beneficial and pathogenic microbes which in combination explain why disease occurs. For disease identification purposes, fungal diseases are arranged according to their predominantly cool season and warm season occurrence. Turfgrass bacterial and viral diseases, and plant parasitic nematodes are also covered. Written by a team of international authors, it combines technical expertise and practical experience. Essential for anyone involved in managing turfgrass, this book provides the know-how to identify the early warning signs of diseases, in order to manipulate the environment and minimise the damage.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Invasive Plant-Parasitic Nematodes by : Ziaul Haque
Download or read book Handbook of Invasive Plant-Parasitic Nematodes written by Ziaul Haque and published by CABI. This book was released on 2021-09-01 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant parasitic nematodes are major pests of agricultural crops and cause huge monetary losses. There is a very high risk of spread of plant-parasitic nematodes from one country to another, with the movement of plants and planting materials such as seeds, bulbs, corms, suckers, tubers, rhizomes, rooted plants, nursery stock and cut flowers. In view of the large quantities and the wide variety of materials being imported and exported, it is important to assess the status of invasive nematodes and their quarantine importance in relation to agricultural trade. This book contains information on around 100 invasive nematodes and their potential threat in different countries. Each nematode entry includes information on authentic identification, geographical distribution, risk of introduction, host ranges, symptoms, biology, ecology, planting material liable to carry the nematode(s), nematode vectors, chance of establishment, likely impact, and phytosanitary measures. There are detailed accounts of diagnosis procedures including sampling, isolation, detection and identification of nematodes based on morphological and molecular characters. The book offers a global perspective on invasive plant-parasitic nematodes and useful for practitioners, professionals, scientists, researchers, students, and government officials working in plant quarantine and biosecurity.

Worldwide, resistance to more than one hundred different active ingredients has been reported. This book compiles information on fungicide resistance over the past three decades on the status, development, and processes involved in the build-up of resistance in pathogens to different groups of fungicides, while also suggesting various measures for managing this problem.
Download or read book Field Life written by Jeremy Vetter and published by University of Pittsburgh Press. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Field Life examines the practice of science in the field in the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains of the American West between the 1860s and the 1910s, when the railroad was the dominant form of long-distance transportation. Grounded in approaches from environmental history and the history of technology, it emphasizes the material basis of scientific fieldwork, joining together the human labor that produced knowledge with the natural world in which those practices were embedded. Four distinct modes of field practice, which were shared by different field science disciplines, proliferated during this period—surveys, lay networks, quarries, and stations—and this book explores the dynamics that underpinned each of them. Using two diverse case studies to animate each mode of practice, as well as the making of the field as a place for science, Field Life combines textured analysis of specific examples of field science on the ground with wider discussion of the commonalities in the practices of a diverse array of field sciences, including the earth and physical sciences, the life and agricultural sciences, and the human sciences. By situating science in its regional environmental context, Field Life analyzes the intersection between the cosmopolitan knowledge of science and the experiential knowledge of people living in the field. Examples of field science in the Plains and Rockies range widely: geological surveys and weather observing networks, quarries to uncover dinosaur fossils and archaeological remains, and branch agricultural experiment stations and mountain biological field stations.
