Download or read book Âme Folk written by Luca Turchet and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-06-08 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Marcel Broodthaers by : Deborah Schultz
Download or read book Marcel Broodthaers written by Deborah Schultz and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2007 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poet and artist Marcel Broodthaers (1924-76) is widely recognized as a key figure in 20th century art who questioned the nature of art, the role of the artist, the functioning of the museum and of the art market. This book sets out Broodthaers's strategy for artistic success and examines the dialogue into which he entered with his contemporaries and predecessors in 19th century French poetry, Pop and Conceptual Art, including Stéphane Mallarmé, Charles Baudelaire, Marcel Duchamp and René Magritte. It provides a broad overview of his objects, paintings, films, slides, books and installations, and his focus upon relationships, also central to Post-Structuralist and postmodern theories. The visual qualities of his works, combining the material with the poetic, his wit and irony, are examined in relation to his subtle method of questioning and contradicting, defying conventional systems and definitions. The author explores the wider framing contexts in which things are presented and the geographical context via maps, notions of the voyage and a sense of place. Institutional critique, the artist's political position and moral responsibilities in society are discussed by analyzing the responses of Broodthaers, Daniel Buren, Joseph Beuys and Hans Haacke to a series of museum events in the early 1970s.

Book Synopsis French Phrases Vol.1 by : Nik Marcel
Download or read book French Phrases Vol.1 written by Nik Marcel and published by 2Language Books. This book was released on 2015-07-23 with total page 1121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: French Phrases Vol.1: English & French THIS EDITION: French Phrases seeks to bridge the gap between knowing individual words and knowing how to create or understand sentences. Sentences are phrases or a combination of phrases, and phrases are a combination of words. The simplest phrases are the simplest ways of combining words. Exposure to a wide variety of phrases, especially in increasing complexity, provides the basis for obtaining a solid grasp of a new language. The reason being, phrases can be combined with other phrases to create endless possibilities in language. French Phrases contains a wide variety of phrases, but it also demonstrates how phrases can increase in complexity – through the inclusion of individual words or other phrases. The reader can choose between four formats: Section 1: English to French Section 2: French to English Section 3: English Section 4: French The text can be used to obtain a fundamental grasp of French grammar. An understanding of the rules that underpin the way words combine into phrases, or phrases combine into sentences, allows the language learner to expand their capacity exponentially simply by increasing vocabulary. With this in mind, the text includes an introductory section summarising the important aspects of French grammar. The dual-language text has been arranged for quick and easy cross-referencing. The text can be used on its own. However, the content is ideal for reinforcing and expanding on a basic grasp of the language. With an increasingly robust grasp of the language, the language learner can easily and fruitfully move on to more advanced bilingual text — like in 2Language Books editions —, or suitable French only text: a simple novel, a French news website, etc. Many basic language books offer some form of audio support. Internet services — primarily news based radio stations — offer podcasts. Audio from television is an additional resource, and can be formatted for use on various digital platforms. However, if audio is an important component of your interest in languages, electronic devices that support quality text-to-speech (TTS) will likely be appealing. With a library card, TTS technology (in a device that supports the relevant content), and the above mentioned resources (as digital content), an entire language learning system is available for not much more than a cup of coffee! There is no substantial financial outlay to get you started. Furthermore, there are no additional ongoing fees (and updates), and there are no expiry dates on ‘premium’ content and resources. Book Synopsis Philosophy As Fiction by : Joshua Landy
Download or read book Philosophy As Fiction written by Joshua Landy and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophy as Fiction seeks to account for the peculiar power of philosophical literature by taking as its case study the paradigmatic generic hybrid of the twentieth century, Marcel Proust's In Search of Lost Time. At once philosophical--in that it presents claims, and even deploys arguments concerning such traditionally philosophical issues as knowledge, self-deception, selfhood, love, friendship, and art--and literary, in that its situations are imaginary and its stylization inescapably prominent, Proust's novel presents us with a conundrum. How should it be read? Can the two discursive structures co-exist, or must philosophy inevitably undermine literature (by sapping the narrative of its vitality) and literature undermine philosophy (by placing its claims in the mouth of an often unreliable narrator)? In the case of Proust at least, the result is greater than the sum of its parts. Not only can a coherent, distinctive philosophical system be extracted from the Recherche, once the narrator's periodic waywardness is taken into account; not only does a powerfully original style pervade its every nook, overtly reinforcing some theories and covertly exemplifying others; but aspects of the philosophy also serve literary ends, contributing more to character than to conceptual framework. What is more, aspects of the aesthetics serve philosophical ends, enabling a reader to engage in an active manner with an alternative art of living. Unlike the "essay" Proust might have written, his novel grants us the opportunity to use it as a practice ground for cooperation among our faculties, for the careful sifting of memories, for the complex procedures involved in self-fashioning, and for the related art of self-deception. It is only because the narrator's insights do not always add up--a weakness, so long as one treats the novel as a straightforward treatise--that it can produce its training effect, a feature that turns out to be its ultimate strength.
Download or read book From NP to DP written by Martine Coene and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2003-07-17 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second of a two-volume selection of refereed and revised papers, originally presented at the special workshop of the international conference From NP to DP at the University of Antwerp. Reflecting the stage of current research with respect to the expression of possession in the noun phrase, it focusses on issues such as alienable and inalienable possession, internal and external syntax of possessors, interaction between determiners and possessors, interpretation of possessors and typology of possessors. The papers, preceded by an up-to-date overview and discussion of the most important studies in the field, provide an excellent basis for comparative analyses of possession in the noun phrase between a large number of languages.
