Book excerpt: What is a "non-devotional"? Typical devotions are date specific, approximately same in length, and the messaging, while definitely powerful, are written in a more casual, easy digestible format. Moments with the Master is numbered by day, 1-366, allowing it to be started any time during the year, and was written to provoke contemplation with the Lord. Deep in consideration, readable in style, Moments with the Master will encourage love and good deeds, as well as embolden believers to the Great Commission. Oh, how grand it would be if we all approached the complex issues facing politicians and society today with a heart that asked, "How is this response pleasing to the Father?" We would touch the environment with trembling hands, for it is His creation. We would protect the sanctity of life, for it is His domain. We would mete out judgment for violating laws, for He is just. We would tend the homeless and hungry, for He is compassionate. We would live a Christ-centered morality, for He is holy. We would better allocate our wealth and position, for His worth is beyond measure. All these things we would do even if it costs us or our lives, for He is greater even than death!

Book excerpt: The author of this inspirational book has filled its pages with love and compassion, a rare insight into God's Word, and with love for all God's creatures. She sincerely believes that God loves everyone and wants each one to surrender his life to Him. She truly desires to be an instrument in His hands to spread His precious love to all. The poems, written over a period of years, are a product of her daily devotions early in the morning. She has gained a love for His Word through her daily study of the Bible and has been inspired by the many writers whose words she has loved and admired. The desire to write poetry was instilled in her at a young age as she had much time to ponder on God's love and the beauty of His creation. Throughout life He has been close by her side to guide her in His ways and to provide guidance through wonderful loving parents, dedicated teachers and Christian leaders. He has been her Counselor, Comforter and Guide through the difficult times in her life. The years were lonesome after losing her husband but a loving God has given her an entirely new life and given her the joy of serving Him. After her retirement she lived in the country and enjoyed hours of walking and praising God for the beauty He created for us to enjoy. These excursions gave her much material for her writing. She feels it is only fitting that these last years she has should be dedicated to writing poems and gratefully praising Him for His goodness through her lifetime. Her prayer is that Morning Moments With My Master will be an encouragement to all who read. Fern Hanlin Coberly was born in Kanawha County, West Virginia, July 21, 1928. She graduated from Tanner High School in Gilmer County and attended Glenville State College. She earned her Accredited Records Technician Certificate and served as Medical Record Librarian at Spencer State Hospital, Spencer, West Virginia, for thirteen years. She was widowed in 1974 and enrolled in Appalachian Bible College, Bradley, West Virginia, in 1976. She graduated in 1980 with a B.A. degree in Bible and Christian Education. She was appointed Dean of Women in 1979 and served in that office until her retirement in 1989. After residing in Gilmer Couny for fifteen years, she moved to Elyria, Ohio, where she is an active member of the Church of the Open Door. She published her first book of poetry, Moments Of Meditation, Sharing God's Love, in April,2007.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Satan, Judas, a Soviet writer, and a talking black cat named Behemoth populate this satire, “a classic of twentieth-century fiction” (The New York Times). In 1930s Moscow, Satan decides to pay the good people of the Soviet Union a visit. In old Jerusalem, the fateful meeting of Pilate and Yeshua and the murder of Judas in the garden of Gethsemane unfold. At the intersection of fantasy and realism, satire and unflinching emotional truths, Mikhail Bulgakov’s classic The Master and Margarita eloquently lampoons every aspect of Soviet life under Stalin’s regime, from politics to art to religion, while interrogating the complexities between good and evil, innocence and guilt, and freedom and oppression. Spanning from Moscow to Biblical Jerusalem, a vibrant cast of characters—a “magician” who is actually the devil in disguise, a giant cat, a witch, a fanged assassin—sow mayhem and madness wherever they go, mocking artists, intellectuals, and politicians alike. In and out of the fray weaves a man known only as the Master, a writer demoralized by government censorship, and his mysterious lover, Margarita. Burned in 1928 by the author and restarted in 1930, The Master and Margarita was Bulgakov’s last completed creative work before his death. It remained unpublished until 1966—and went on to become one of the most well-regarded works of Russian literature of the twentieth century, adapted or referenced in film, television, radio, comic strips, theater productions, music, and opera.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Satan comes to Soviet Moscow in this critically acclaimed translation of one of the most important and best-loved modern classics in world literature. The Master and Margarita has been captivating readers around the world ever since its first publication in 1967. Written during Stalin’s time in power but suppressed in the Soviet Union for decades, Bulgakov’s masterpiece is an ironic parable on power and its corruption, on good and evil, and on human frailty and the strength of love. In The Master and Margarita, the Devil himself pays a visit to Soviet Moscow. Accompanied by a retinue that includes the fast-talking, vodka-drinking, giant tomcat Behemoth, he sets about creating a whirlwind of chaos that soon involves the beautiful Margarita and her beloved, a distraught writer known only as the Master, and even Jesus Christ and Pontius Pilate. The Master and Margarita combines fable, fantasy, political satire, and slapstick comedy to create a wildly entertaining and unforgettable tale that is commonly considered the greatest novel to come out of the Soviet Union. It appears in this edition in a translation by Mirra Ginsburg that was judged “brilliant” by Publishers Weekly. Praise for The Master and Margarita “A wild surrealistic romp. . . . Brilliantly flamboyant and outrageous.” —Joyce Carol Oates, The Detroit News “Fine, funny, imaginative. . . . The Master and Margarita stands squarely in the great Gogolesque tradition of satiric narrative.” —Saul Maloff, Newsweek “A rich, funny, moving and bitter novel. . . . Vast and boisterous entertainment.” —The New York Times “The book is by turns hilarious, mysterious, contemplative and poignant. . . . A great work.” —Chicago Tribune “Funny, devilish, brilliant satire. . . . It’s literature of the highest order and . . . it will deliver a full measure of enjoyment and enlightenment.” —Publishers Weekly
